==Notorious Ukrainian diplomat tells Musk to f**k off=

Kiev’s outgoing ambassador to Berlin used expletives to reject the peace plan floated by the US billionaire

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk caused a Twitter meltdown after he proposed a controversial peace plan to end the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. The plan was firmly rejected by multiple Ukrainian officials, who flocked to Musk’s feed, with the notorious Ukrainian envoy Andrey Melnik producing the least diplomatic reaction.

Musk floated his peace plan on Monday, proposing new UN-supervised referendums in former Ukrainian territories, which are currently in the process of being incorporated into Russia. Kiev should also relinquish its claim to Crimea, which broke away from the country back in 2014, as well as ensuring a steady water supply to the peninsula and declaring itself a neutral country.

The plan prompted a furious response from multiple senior Ukrainian officials, including Kiev’s outgoing envoy to Berlin, best known for repeatedly insulting the German leadership and infamously branding Chancellor Olaf Scholz an “offended liverwurst.” Melnik told the billionaire to “f**k off,” suggesting it was the most diplomatic response he could have provided to the peace plan.

F**k off is my very diplomatic reply to you, Elon Musk.

The peace plan initially garnered solid support in a Twitter poll, but ultimately attracted the attention of pro-Ukrainian trolls who turned the tide, with nearly 60% opposing it after over 2.6 million votes. Musk, who is no stranger to controversy on Twitter, said the poll had come under the “biggest bot attack I’ve ever seen.”

Another, toned down poll, in which Musk asked whether at least the people of Donbass and Crimea should decide if they want to stay with Russia or Ukraine, was subjected to bot attacks as well. Still, only some 40% of respondents voted to deny these people the right to decide their own fate after more than 2.2 million votes.

Early in the ongoing conflict, Musk strongly supported Kiev, sending hundreds of SpaceX’s Starlink terminals to Ukraine. While the proclaimed purpose of the move was humanitarian, Kiev has since admitted to using them for the war effort, while Russian troops claimed to have seized multiple units from Ukrainian troops.

In wake of the controversial peace plan, however, multiple pro-Ukrainian users suggested the billionaire should now shove said terminals up his rectum, while President Vladimir Zelensky launched a poll of his own, wondering whether his followers preferred the Musk who supported Ukraine or this one, who “supports Russia.”

German top officials disagree on ‘war with Putin’

Health minister Karl Lauterbach said Berlin is locked in a direct conflict and Defense Minister Lambrecht promptly denies that this is so

Two federal ministers in the German government have offered mutually exclusive assessments over whether Germany is at war with Russia. The difference of opinion became obvious after health minister Karl Lauterbach claimed Berlin was a belligerent nation pitted against Russian President Vladimir Putin.

On Saturday, Lauterbach took to Twitter, inquiring: “Seriously: What on earth should kneeling before Putin bring now?”

“We are at war with Putin and not his psychotherapists,” the official went on.

He insisted that Germany’s focus should be on ensuring Ukraine’s victory on the battlefield.

According to Lauterbach, “whether Putin’s psyche can handle that is irrelevant.”

The tweet came in response to a suggestion made earlier byphilosopher David Precht, who argued that individual NATO member states should give Russia guarantees that Ukraine will not join the military alliance. Precht suggested this would open the door to peace talks between Moscow and Kiev.

Defense minister Christine Lambrecht, however, was quick to qualify her colleague’s remark.

She reiterated that “it is completely clear – both for the German federal government and for the whole of NATO – we won’t become a war party.”

Appearing on Sunday on ARD news channel’s Report from Berlin program, Lambrecht stressed that not letting Germany be dragged into the Ukraine conflict has been Berlin’s guiding principle since the start of Russia’s offensive against its neighbor.

“And nothing has changed in that respect,” the minister added.

Following criticisms, Lauterbach clarified on Tuesday that he actually believes that Germany is “of course not a war party,” though it does stand “fully on the side of the Ukrainians,” including with regard to weapons shipments.

Incidentally, the country’s finance minister Christian Lindner has also used somewhat similar wording to Lauterbach’s.

On Friday, the official posted a tweet suggesting that Germany is currently in an “energy war” which calls for an “All-In strategy.” Lindner advocated extending the operational lives of all “available nuclear power plants” in the country to keep its economy afloat.

Russian officials, in turn, make a point of referring to the ongoing armed conflict with Ukraine as a “special military operation,” rather than a war.

RT wins court case against Google

Moscow’s arbitration court has ordered the US tech giant to restore access to blocked YouTube channels

Google has been ordered by Moscow’s arbitration court to restore RT’s YouTube channels, which were blocked by the tech giant following the launch of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine.

The decision was announced on Tuesday as the court found in favor of ANO TV-Novosti, RT’s founding company, against Google LLC, Google Ireland Limited and the Russian Google division. They have been ordered to restore access to some 27 blocked channels.

If they fail to do so, a court penalty of 100,000 rubles per day ($1,694) will be imposed on Google until access to all of the channels is restored. Every week, the amount of the daily penalty will double.

Google now has 30 days to appeal the court’s verdict.

The lawsuit against Google was filed back in May when the court, at RT’s request, took interim measures to “make sure it is possible to enforce the judicial act” against the company and seized all financial assets and movable and immovable property of the tech giant’s Russian division to the value of 500 million rubles ($8.4 million).

Similar amounts have also been seized from the company in two other pending lawsuits filed by Russian television companies NTV and the GPM Entertainment Television, which have also had their content blocked on YouTube.

YouTube administrators restricted access to all RT and RTD channels in early March, shortly after Russia launched its military operation in Ukraine.

According to a March report from Roskomnadzor, Russia’s media watchdog, there have been some 54 cases of YouTube restricting content belonging to Russian channels.

Following the launch of Russia’s military offensive against Ukraine, Western governments and private tech companies began a censorship campaign against Russian media they deem to be ‘state-controlled’. The European Union completely banned RT and Sputnik from its airwaves. RT America was forced to cease operations amid US sanctions on Moscow, while Google removed RT’s and Sputnik’s apps from its Play Store, and YouTube blocked access to all of the broadcasters’ channels.

Germany responds to Poland’s $1.2 trillion reparation demand

Berlin considers the issue to be long settled, says Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock

Berlin refuses to pay Poland any more World War II reparations and considers the matter“closed” at the governmental level, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock told her Polish counterpart on Tuesday.

Speaking at a news conference following a meeting with Poland’s Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau in Warsaw, Baerbock said she understands that “this topic interests many people” in Poland, but stressed that although Germany “feels responsible,” the issue of reparations from the point of view of the German government is “a closed issue.”

Her comments come after Rau signed a diplomatic note to Berlin on Monday, officially demanding over $1.2 trillion in reparations for material and other damages and losses Poland claims to have suffered at the hands of Nazi Germany between 1939 and 1945.

The Polish diplomat has insisted that the two countries should take “immediate steps towards a permanent, comprehensive and final legal and material settlement on the issue,” in order to help improve bilateral relations.

After his meeting with Baerbock, Rau reiterated that “Polish society is still traumatized by the German invasion of 1939, which limits and inhibits the possibilities of further development and deepening Polish-German relations.”

He added that Poland still believes that Germany can be convinced to change its position on the issue and that its position will evolve through further dialogue.

It’s estimated that around six million Poles, including three million Polish Jews, were killed by Nazi Germany during World War II, while much of the nation’s industry, infrastructure, and culture suffered huge losses during the six-year conflict.

The Seijm, the lower house of the Polish parliament, voted in September to demand the damages be paid for by Berlin, insisting that Germany had the money to do so. Leader of Poland’s ruling Law and Justice party Jaroslaw Kaczynski has even said that the estimated damages were still on the “conservative” side and that the price tag could be much greater.

Berlin, however, argues that Warsaw had waived the right to reparations in two separate treaties signed in 1953 and 1990. Warsaw insists that it had been coerced into signing those documents while it was under pressure from the Soviet Union.

CIA chief weighs in on Putin’s alleged nuclear threat

US intelligence agencies don’t see “practical evidence” that Russia is getting ready to use nukes, CIA Director William Burns said

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) does not believe that Russian President Vladimir Putin is currently preparing to deploy nuclear weapons in Ukraine, the agency’s chief William Burns said in an interview on Sunday.

“We have to take very seriously [any] kind of threats, given everything that’s at stake,”Burns told CBS Evening News with Norah O'Donnell.

However, he acknowledged that “we don’t see any practical evidence today in the US intelligence community that [Putin] is moving closer to actual use” or that there’s any “imminent threat of using tactical nuclear weapons.”

Asked if the Russian leader was bluffing when speaking about being ready to use “all the means at [its] disposal” if the country’s territorial integrity were threatened, Burns said it was “very hard to say at this point.”

The CIA director described the rhetoric from Putin and other high-ranking officials as“reckless and deeply irresponsible.” He also suggested that it was up to US policymakers to communicate to Moscow that such a decision would have “severe consequences.”

UK Secretary of Defense Ben Wallace claimed on Sunday that Russia was “highly unlikely” to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine, but claimed the Russian leader was also “totally irrational.”

The issue has been at the fore since Putin announced a partial mobilization two weeks ago and warned that Moscow was ready to use any weapons from its extensive arsenal to defend itself if necessary.

“If the territorial integrity of our nation is threatened, we will certainly use all the means that we have to defend Russia and our people. It’s not a bluff,” Putin stated at the time.

He reiterated the message on Friday in an address at the signing of the unification treaties for the accession of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, along with the Kherson and Zaporozhye Regions, into Russia. “We will defend our land with all the forces and resources,” the president vowed.

Putin’s words have been interpreted by politicians and media in the West as a veiled threat that Moscow may deploy nuclear weapons in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

In late September, Russia’s deputy foreign minister Sergey Ryabkov rejected such speculation, saying: “we are not threatening anyone with nuclear weapons.”

The diplomat referred journalists to Russia’s military doctrine, which states that nuclear weapons may only be employed if such arms or other weapons of mass destruction are being used against the country, or it is faced with an existential threat from conventional arms.

==EU sounds alarm over dangerous infection

Health watchdog detected an “unprecedented” surge in a highly pathogenic influenza in wild and domestic birds==

EU nations are experiencing the largest detected epidemic of avian influenza (HPAI), a more dangerous variant of bird flu, a watchdog has warned on Monday.

The statement by the EU’s Food Safety Agency (EFSA) drew the public’s attention to a paper on influenza, which was published by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

The scientists reported “an unprecedentedly high level of HPAI virus detections in wild birds between June and August 2022.” Breeding colonies of seabirds along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean were hit particularly hard, with high mortality rates observed.

Outbreaks among poultry from June to September affected five times the number of premises, compared to the same period in 2021, the study said. Over this period, 1.9 million farm birds were culled, with the Netherlands and Germany accounting for 70% of the animals killed, according to the study. Over the entire 2021-2022 period of the epidemic, 47.7 million birds were culled, it added.

“With cases detected in poultry and wild birds up to September, the current epidemic is clearly still ongoing. As autumn migration begins and the number of wild birds wintering in Europe increases, they are likely at higher risk of HPAI infection than previous years due to the observed persistence of the virus in Europe”, EFSA official Guilhem de Seze, who heads its department tasked with risk assessment, said.

The EU body called the geographic spread of the infection during the ongoing epidemiological season “unprecedented” in scale. The virus reached as far north as the Svalbard islands, as far east as Ukraine and as far south as southern Portugal, according to researchers.

In autumn 2021, the HPAI A(H5N1) strain also crossed the Atlantic in migrating birds and caused a severe outbreak among poultry in Canada and the US, the agency added.

Influenza epidemics in animals can have a serious economic impact on farming and may pose a threat to public health, since some variants of the virus can be transmitted to humans. The ECDC said that since its last report a total of five human infections with bird flu have been reported in China.

The health agency assessed the risk posed by the virus to the European public as low for the general population and low to medium for people regularly exposed to birds, like farm workers.

Le Pen issues grim winter prediction

The EU’s anti-Russia policies are hurting the French, the politician claims

France should brace for a tough winter as a result of the EU’s anti-Russia sanctions, the leader of the right-wing National Rally parliamentary group said on Tuesday, adding that next winter will be even worse.

Marine Le Pen told BFMTV that the sanctions are not working, and are in fact harming the French people. She argued that the restrictions placed on Russia have proven counterproductive, helping Moscow to increase its oil revenues.

Le Pen also said that the responsibility for the plight of Europeans lies with those who decided to impose anti-Russia measures.

The opposition politician earlier harshly criticized France’s support for the sanctions, branding them a major “geopolitical mistake.” She also called out “idiots” supporting the green agenda, naming them as the real culprits for the EU’s dependency on Russian fossil fuels.

Last month, the head of the French energy regulator CRE warned that private households could face power outages this winter in the event of severe frosts. The country may not produce enough nuclear energy in the coming months, as half of its plants are offline, the regulator said.

Danish police alerted to drone activity over gas field

The law enforcement agency has confirmed to Reuters it was made aware of the activity near the Roar gas field

Drones were reported flying over the North Sea’s Roar gas field over the weekend, Denmark’s National Police confirmed to Reuters on Tuesday.

Roar, located in Danish waters next to the country’s largest gas field Tyra, is operated by French energy company TotalEnergies.

The police statement followed reports last week by TotalEnergies that “unauthorized drone activity” had been spotted over the Halfdan B oil and gas field in the North Sea. Norwegian authorities also reported unusual drone activity over several of its oil and gas fields in the North Sea last week.

Last Monday, Russia’s Gazprom reported leaks in one string of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline and both strings of the Nord Stream 1 pipeline in the Baltic Sea near the Danish island of Bornholm following explosions. While neither pipeline was active at the time of the incident, Gazprom said an estimated 800 million cubic meters of stored natural gas had escaped. Denmark and Norway, along with others in the region, have beefed up security in the wake of the incident.

While some Western officials immediately accused Russia of blowing up its own pipelines, Moscow has suggested the US was responsible. Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzia pointed out in a UN Security Council meeting that it was only the US – specifically US suppliers of liquefied natural gas (LNG) – who benefited from the sabotage.

In the aftermath of the explosion, former Polish foreign minister Radek Sikorsky posted and then deleted a photo of gas escaping from the ruptured Russian pipelines with a caption “thanking” the US.

The day after the apparent act of sabotage took out Nord Stream, the Baltic Pipe, a new pipeline funneling gas from Norway to Poland and Denmark, was opened. While the project had been halted last year, it was green-lighted again in March after Russia began its military offensive in Ukraine.

Strikes halt French refineries

Protests triggered by spiraling inflation and pension reform could lead to fuel shortages in the country

Strikes at French energy company TotalEnergies have dragged on for the seventh day, disrupting already strained energy supplies, and may continue, a CGT trade union representative told Reuters on Monday.

The delivery of oil products and refining have been halted across France after four TotalEnergies sites, including the 240,000-barrel-per-day Gonfreville refinery in Normandy, were hit with strikes.

While the trade union is yet to decide on whether to continue the Gonfreville strike, the facilities at La Mede, Feyzin, and Cote d’Opal remain halted, according to General Confederation of Labour (CGT) union delegate Thierry Dufresne.

“Refining is impacted, except at Donges, which is operating normally,” he said.

The strike, which is preventing refined products from leaving TotalEnergies sites and one of its fuel storages, is a part of a nationwide multi-sector action. Hit by unprecedented inflation, the rising cost of living, and angered over planned pension reform, which includes a rise in the retirement age, energy sector workers are demanding higher pay.

According to estimates from experts, the current strikes have already disrupted more than 60% of the refining capacity, or 740,000 barrels per day, and could affect the French energy sector even more. TotalEnergies claims that the shutdowns will not trigger a fuel shortage, due to the sufficient stocks. However, the country’s top sugar manufacturer, Tereos, said last week that it had to slow down output after it failed to receive diesel fuel from the refinery.

Strikes also hit two Exxon Mobile oil and petrochemical plants, forcing the company to reduce supplies of refined products to customers for nearly two weeks.

The Daily Show Roasts Kamala Harris' Remarks As Worse Than HBO's 'VEEP’

Spencer Brown

The Daily Show hosted by Trevor Noah is, like most mainstream culture factories, usually irreparably biased toward helping the left advance its causes — but even the libs at The Daily Show have their limit, apparently.

Rather than its usual gushing about our Vice President Kamala Harris, The Daily Show took a jab at the VP by comparing Harris to fictional Vice President Selina Meyer from HBO's 'VEEP' comedy — a show where everything that can go wrong does go wrong and the VP is a useless scandal magnet whose staff is as inept as she is.

The video montage — pairing actual Kamala Harris remarks with what the 'VEEP' writers' room came up with as the most useless speeches for their television VP — shows how much of a parody Harris is in real life.

Here are the quotes from the compilation — without attribution to VP Harris or fictional VP Meyer — to highlight how they are nearly indistinguishable.

Think you know which ones are from speeches given Harris and not from a workshopped HBO script? Keep scrolling for the video to find out. Again, some of these were quotes from the sitting vice president, and some of these were created by Emmy-winning writers as examples of embarrassing nonsense.

"My fellow Americans, words have many meanings — and sometimes instead of conveying our meaning, they can suggest other meanings"

"When we talk about the children of the community, they are the children of the community."

"Well, we are the United States of America because we are united, and we are states."

"I'm talking about the significance of the passage of time, right, the significance of the passage of time — so when you think about it, there is great significance to the passage of time."

"Whatever we have in store cannot be known. The past was once the future, the future is, I should say, unknown."

"We gotta take this stuff seriously, as seriously as you are, because you have been forced to have to take it seriously."

"Obesity is a serious disease and it needs to be taken seriously."

"You need to get to go, and need to be able to get where you need to go to do the work, and get home."

"I hope that clarifies the issue and this can be the last word on those words."

"Certain issues are just settled… no that's right, and that's why I do believe that we are living, sadly, in real unsettled times."

The two are, unfortunately, almost indistinguishable. The only notable difference is that Selina Meyer — played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus — is not working at the highest levels of the United States government. Whereas Harris, the actual vice president, is a mere nearly octogenarian heartbeat away from being the leader of the free world. But sure, everything's fine and the "adults are in charge" now, right?

The fact that 'The Daily Show' is now poking fun at Harris is notable, given that Trevor Noah and his crew championed Harris throughout the 2020 primaries and general election cycle — mocking her conservative critics as sexist or racist. Apparently, as with most things for liberals, it's only okay when they point out Democrats' flaws.

Biden DOJ goes to bat for Trump against disgraced ex-FBI agent Peter Strzok

The Biden Justice Department released fired FBI special agent Peter Strzok’s termination letter as part of its efforts to fight the fired special agent’s attempts to subpoena former President Donald Trump.

Strzok wants to depose Trump and FBI Director Christopher Wray, but the Biden Justice Department has been fighting that in court for months. He sued the FBI in 2019 for alleged wrongful termination, which followed the emergence of his anti-Trump texts.

DOJ Deputy Assistant Attorney General Brian Netter, along with other Justice Department officials, went to bat for the former president in a court appearance last week.

Netter and the other officials told the court Thursday that former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and former FBI Deputy Director David Bowdich recently testified about the reasons behind Strzok’s August 2018 firing and that “each deposition reinforces the conclusion that both subpoenas should be quashed.”

The Justice Departmentreleased excerpts from the testimony of Rosenstein and Bowdich, who argued Strzok’s firing was justifiedand did not happen due to influence from Trump. The DOJ also went further, releasing the August 2018 letter explaining why Strzok was fired.

“I removed all the politics, pundits, commentary, and the media from reporting the decision point I must address. When I strip away all the ‘noise,’ I am left with the facts and the extremely damaging impact to our organization, which will take years to overcome,” Bowdich’s newly released letter to Strzok explained. “As Deputy Assistant Director you were supposed to be a leader who was beyond reproach and set an example not only for your direct subordinates, but others throughout the organization who watched and observed your behaviors and actions. You failed to do so repeatedly and put your own interests about [sic] the interests of the organization."

Bowdich concluded: "Though it pains me to do so, it is for this reason that I am dismissing you from the rolls of the FBI.”

The Justice Department said Thursday that Bowdich recently further testifiedhe did not discuss Strzok in any of the interactions he had with Trumpand that he “never saw the president get involved in the termination of anyone beyond the politically-appointed director.” Trump fired former FBI Director James Comey in May 2017.

Bowdich also testifiedhe “absolutely” did not recall Wrayever telling him about any meeting with Trump in which “the president pressed the director to fire Peter Strzok and Lisa Page."

It comes after Strzok filed a civil lawsuit against Wray, then-Attorney General William Barr, and the bureau in August 2019, claiming he was wrongfully terminated in 2018 after the discovery of anti-Trump texts with former FBI lawyer Lisa Page, with whom he was romantically involved. He played a key role in opening the Crossfire Hurricane investigation in 2016 and interviewed retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn in January 2017.

Strzok claimed in his lawsuit that his firing was “the result of unrelenting pressure from President Trump and his political allies in Congress and the media."

Trump celebrated Strzok’s firing in August 2018.

“Just fired Agent Strzok, formerly of the FBI, was in charge of the Crooked Hillary Clinton sham investigation,” Trump tweeted at the time.

Strzok came under heavy criticism after the revelation of thousands of highly political anti-Trump texts he’d sent with Page throughout 2016 and 2017.

In one notable exchange in August 2016, Page asked Strzok, “[Trump is] not ever going to become president, right? Right?!”

“No. No he won’t,” Strzok replied. “We'll stop it.”
