Thousands of Canadian soldiers and their families are on a waitlist for military housing, even sometimes resorting to shelter with their superior commanders.
According to the Department of National Defence, approximately 4,500 members of the Canadian Armed Forces were awaiting a decision from the Canadian Forces Housing Agency as of July.

Edmonton city councillors vote in favour of $170 million bike lane proposal

Edmonton city councillors voted in favour of building 100 kms of bike lanes that will cost Alberta’s capital city $170 million — plus another $11 million annually to maintain.
City administrators presented four options with costing at $25 million, $90 million, $130 million or $170 million. Councillors chose the most expensive option with the highest annual operating costs.
The proposal will increase Edmonton’s 15 kms of bike lanes by another 100 kms, largely in the city centre.

The Canadian government announced its launching of a $200 million (CAD) endowment fund for “black-focused,” “black-led,” and “black-serving” organizations on Monday.
In the federal government’s solicitation of proposals from organizations seeking to become the administrator of its forthcoming “Black-Led Philanthropic Endowment Fund,” it applied the left-wing stylistic capitalization of “black,” partly popularized by the Associated Press.
The $200 million fund, according to the federal government, is intended “to reduce anti-Black racism and improve social and economic outcomes in Black communities.”
The Canadian government added:
The investment income will provide funding to Black-led, Black-focused and Black-serving non-profit organizations and registered charities across the country. DND says senior officers are investigating internally and relieving the officer of her duties was considered 'necessary to ensure effective leadership in HMCS Kingston'
A naval officer serving as second in command of a Canadian minesweeper deployed to Europe was relieved of her duties over an allegation of “inappropriate conduct of a sexualized nature.”
The Department of National Defence announced the move in a statement this afternoon, saying the incident is alleged to have occurred during a port visit in Lisbon, Portugal.
The department did not reveal more details or the officer’s name.
The allegations against the officer have not been proven in court.
The department says senior officers are investigating internally and that relieving the officer of her duties was considered “necessary to ensure effective leadership in HMCS Kingston.”
Kingston is one of two Canadian vessels along with HMCS Summerside currently deployed with a NATO task force charged with finding and clearing mines from European waters.
