Ukraine shells hotel – Kherson officials

One person is reported dead after Ukraine strikes the city center, allegedly with US-made HIMARS rockets

Ukrainian forces have carried out an overnight attack on a hotel in the center of Kherson, local civil defense and emergency services wrote on their joint Telegram channel on Wednesday.

At least one person was killed in the shelling, and a number of residential buildings as well as a hotel, sustained damage, a local law enforcement officer told RIA Novosti news agency.

He added that the attack on the city was supposedly carried out using three HIMARS rockets, but the consequences of the shelling are still being clarified by Russia’s Investigative Committee. Emergency services continue working at the scene to clear the rubble.

Ukrainian forces have also continued to carry out attacks on other residential areas in Russia. The Mayor of Donetsk, Alexei Kulemzin, reported on Wednesday that at least three civilians had been killed in strikes on the city over the past two days.

Zaporozhye Governor Yevgeny Balitsky has also accused Kiev of trying to make life unbearable for the residents of newly incorporated Russian territories after Ukrainian troops carried out over 40 artillery strikes on and around Energodar, targeting the city’s gas-fired power plant in an effort to “derail” preparations for the winter season and make the city “unlivable.”

Russia took control of a large part of the Zaporozhye and Kherson Regions in the early phase of its military operation against Ukraine. The regions voted in referendums last month to join Russia. On Wednesday President Vladimir Putin signed into law four treaties, which formalized the transfer of Zaporozhye and Kherson, as well as the republics of Donetsk and Lugansk to Russian sovereignty.

Kiev has rejected the ballots and the change of status and pledged to use military force to oust Russia from all lands that Ukraine considers its own. Ukraine’s President Vladimir Zelensky claimed that he wants all people living in what his government terms “temporary occupied territories” back under Kiev’s jurisdiction, but threatened to punish “collaborators” who cooperated with Russia.

Kiev wants to make new Russian city ‘unlivable’ – top official

Ukraine is trying to disable the gas-fired power plant in Energodar and leave residents without heating, the local leader claims

Ukrainian troops are carrying out artillery strikes on Energodar in Zaporozhye Region, one of the four provinces newly incorporated into Russia, acting Governor Yevgeny Balitsky said on Wednesday, accusing Kiev of trying make to life unbearable for residents.

“The enemy has focused the shelling on our [gas-fired] power plant to derail our preparations for the winter season, and to demonstrate that the authorities are not capable of heating the city,” Balitsky told Russian television on Wednesday.

He believes Kiev intends to “destroy the infrastructure and make [Energodar] unlivable.” The Ukrainian government wants to regain control over the region, but does not want the people living in it to remain, he insisted.

In the past 24 hours there have been over 40 artillery strikes on and around the city, with some of the shelling conducted in a chaotic manner, Balitsky said.

He claimed that Ukraine’s artillery appears not to care about picking high-value targets, and expends pricey US-provided munitions to cause relatively minor damage.

“They even hit the railroad. It cost us 100,000 rubles ($1,680) to fix, and they spent $200,000. And fire indiscriminately all over the territory,” he said. “The Americans are pouring so much money into Ukraine, they can spend [ammo] absolutely without reservations.”

Russia took control of a large part of Zaporozhye Region in the early phase of its military operation against Ukraine. The region voted in a referendum last month to join Russia. President Vladimir Putin signed into law on Tuesday four acts, which formalized the transfer of Zaporozhye and three other former Ukrainian regions under Russian sovereignty.

Transpacific Shipping Drops 75% During Peak Season as Joe Biden Energy Inflation Bites and Consumer Spending Collapses

October 5, 2022 | Sundance |

The economic data coming in the past week is in alignment with prior forecasts. Bottom line, energy driven inflation has collapsed consumer spending, inventories climbing, vendors are cancelling orders, and this is peak season for transpacific shipping- which has now recorded the most rapid drop in history.

A single transpacific container shipment cost $19,000 in 2021, then $14,500 in 2022 as the intentional slowdown began. Now it’s only $3,900 as entire fleets of cargo shipments are cancelled due to lack of demand by U.S. purchasers.

Folks, get ready…. because it’s not going to get better. Prior farm costs, an outcome of energy price increases, are now reaching the supply chain. Food costs will continue increasing throughout the holiday season.

(Wall Street Journal) […] Trans-Pacific shipping rates have plummeted roughly 75% from year-ago levels. The transportation industry is grappling with weaker demand as big retailers cancel orders with vendors and step up efforts to cut inventories. FedEx Corp. recently said it would cancel flights and park cargo planes because of a sharp drop in shipping volumes. On Thursday, Nike Inc. said it was sitting on 65% more inventory in North America than a year earlier and would resort to markdowns.

[…] One response to the melting demand has been to reduce sailing trips. In September, container capacity offered by ship operators in the Pacific was down 13%, dropping the equivalent of 21 ships that can each move 8,000 containers in a single voyage, from a year earlier, according to shipping-data providers Xeneta and Sea-Intelligence.

For the two weeks starting Oct. 3, a total of about 40 scheduled sailings to the U.S. West Coast from Asia and 21 sailings to the East Coast from Asia have been scrapped, according to the data companies as well as customer advisories viewed by The Wall Street Journal. Typically at this time of year, an average of two to four sailings a week are blanked, the industry’s term for canceled sailings.

[…] “In the first week of October, one-third of previously announced capacity will be blanked and for the second week, it will be around half,” said Peter Sand, chief analyst at Xeneta. “The downturn pace in recent weeks has been very fast and it looks like carriers misread the low volumes of a nonexistent peak season.”

The period between late summer and early fall typically is the busiest time of year for the largest carriers, as retailers and other importers build inventories ahead of the holiday shopping season. (more)

All of this has to do with the intentional destruction of the oil, coal and gas industry. Western national economic collapse is a feature of the Build Back Better agenda. The economy will continue to be lowered until it small enough to be replaced by “climate friendly” energy resources, windmills and solar farms.

The more consumers demand to keep their standard of living, the harder the central banks will squeeze to inflict the pain. The western leaders and their banking benefactors do not want us owning things that require energy resources. The economic pain will continue (in western nations) until citizens acquiesce to eating bugs and sustainable algae cakes, while taking mass transportation instead of personal vehicles.

Musk Twitter Purchase Back on Table, Unfortunately with Plan for Everything App

October 4, 2022 The only thing I can do is research and write about it. With an even stronger degree of certainty than originally expressed, and with all of the subsequent data points falling into alignment with the initial suspicions, the background of Jack’s Magic Coffee shop remains unchanged. {Go Deep}

Six weeks ago, the Twitter security ‘whistleblower’ came forward to congress. The whistleblower is a former technology expert who came from within the research farm of DARPA, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. Peiter “Mudge” Zatko, is a well-known cybersecurity expert who left government work, entered the public world, and eventually became the head of Twitter security, reporting directly to the CEO. {Go Deep}

According to a recent SEC filing [LINK HERE], Elon Musk is now back to supporting the purchase of Twitter as the first step in creating the “everything app.”

{{{sarcastic voice}}} Gee, what could this be about? I mean what could go wrong?…. We already know the infrastructure of Twitter’s operational database is tied into portals with the Dept of Homeland security {citation}, and now Musk wants to use that central infrastructure to create an all-inclusive “everything app”?

The bigger risk to the surveillance state is discovery that Twitter and the U.S. intelligence community are in a public-private partnership. The Dept of Homeland Security has access by design, not flaw. How the stakeholder media are reporting on the issue shows the nature of the risk, (emphasis mine):

[…] The scathing disclosure, which totals around 200 pages, including supporting exhibits — was sent last month to a number of US government agencies and congressional committees, including the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice. The existence and details of the disclosure have not previously been reported. CNN obtained a copy of the disclosure from a senior Democratic aide on Capitol Hill. The SEC, DOJ and FTC declined to comment; the Senate Intelligence Committee, which received a copy of the report, is taking the disclosure seriously and is setting a meeting to discuss the allegations, according to Rachel Cohen, a committee spokesperson. (link)

How would it damage the U.S. government if previous claims about the Chinese governmenthaving access to all user data on TikTok, are shown to be exactly identical to the U.S. government having access to all user data on Twitter?

Let that question settle in for a few moments, because that is exactly what I have been alleging since, well, 2011, when the U.S. State Dept first collaborated with Twitter in a joint public-private partnership to use the platform as a communication tool exploiting the Arab Spring uprising in Egypt, Libya and beyond.

♦ Legal Stuff – The issue of American citizen privacy and U.S. constitutional limits against the government listening in on communication is functionally obsolescent. The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) prohibits communication intercepts on U.S. citizens without a valid search warrant. However, if a U.S. citizen is engaged in a conversation with a foreign person, all privacy restrictions are essentially gone. [Insert example of Michael Flynn taking to Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak here]

Your phone calls can be intercepted by the government from the foreign side of the call. The govt can freely monitor the calls that involve foreign actors. The only rule is that your privacy must be maintained. If the foreign actor is in communication with a U.S. citizen, the U.S. citizen must be “minimized” or not identified in any intercept.

However, what happens when the phone call is on a community line that is connected, and visible, to the entire world? That’s the benefit of social media monitoring from a surveillance perspective. It is from that opaque and unresolved archaic legal perspective that surveillance authority of social media platforms, by the U.S. intelligence community, exists. Now you see why the SSCI is taking an interest in the Twitter whistleblower, classic risk mitigation.

Hopefully, you can also see why the 200-page whistleblower document was leaked, by a Democrat staffer, to the Washington Post and CNN

Read the whole article, Musk is now part of the problem…

DeSantis Flashes His Alpha-Dog Energy in Meeting With Diminished Biden

Paula Bolyard

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis met with President Biden in Florida on Wednesday for a flyover of the devastated area and a meet-and-greet with survivors of Hurricane Ian. The two shook hands upon meeting and conversed for several minutes. Well, that’s not whollyaccurate. DeSantis spoke, and Joe Biden mostly listened. Watch:

But that wasn’t the best part of the meeting. The best part was when Alpha-Dog DeSantis confidently strutted up to the podium—the one emblazoned with the seal of the president of the United States—and began to speak. Oh, he did ask Biden if it was ok to speak first, but that was just a rhetorical question as DeSantis was already standing at the podium. Biden appeared confused and busied himself with sniffing Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried.

It’s’ actually rather shocking that Biden’s advance team didn’t think through the optics of DeSantis—a possible opponent in the 2024 election—speaking at the presidential podium, but we thank whoever screwed up for giving us this amazing photo op.

Biden smiled inappropriately and fiddled with his shirtsleeves while DeSantis spoke about recovery efforts in Florida.

When the governor concluded, he glanced over to Biden and invited him to the podium—Biden’s podium. The president, true to form, didn’t know what he was supposed to do. He appeared to ask Nikki Fried whether it was his turn, and she nodded for him to go ahead.

After Biden spoke—and basically took credit for the entire recovery effort—he was asked about the governor’s performance in the aftermath of the monster storm. “What the governor’s done is pretty remarkable,” Biden said.

We couldn’t agree more, Joe! Thanks for pointing out the obvious.

Afghan Evacuee in New Mexico Accused of a Crime That Isn't a Crime in Afghanistan

Robert Spencer

Americans rescued Shah Mahmood Selab from Afghanistan last year as Old Joe Biden’s woke, distracted military was botching our withdrawal from that country. Other Americans then helped him settle in Las Cruces, N.M., and start a new life. But it looks as if Selab brought a bit too much of Afghanistan with him: he has been charged, according to a report in The Blaze on Saturday, with “a child sex crime and violent assault of a 12-year-old boy in New Mexico.”

American authorities could have and should have seen this coming as that kind of behavior is rampant and taken for granted in Afghanistan. But they didn’t. The far-Left blinders that everyone in the Biden administration wears prevented them from seeing anything so “Islamophobic.”

Selab was “charged in federal court with coercion and enticement of a minor” and consequently “faces a minimum of 10 years and up to life in prison if he is convicted.” The incident in question took place last August when Selab “allegedly approached a 12-year-old boy at Youngs Park in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Selab reportedly conversed with the boy who was sitting on a bench at the park – located near a middle school.”

According to a Justice Department news release that, interestingly enough, never gives the slightest hint that Selab is an Afghan refugee, Selab “began asking the victim personal questions, and then invited the victim to sit with him on another bench in the shade. After moving to the other bench, Selab allegedly used his cellphone to show the victim photos and videos that were sexual in nature. Selab allegedly touched the victim inappropriately.”

When the boy tried to get away from Selab, who is 35, Selab went after him and “punched him in the face multiple times.” As if that weren’t charming enough, Selab then “allegedly asked the victim to get into his vehicle and offered the victim $20 to allow Selab to touch him.” At that point, the boy tried to call 911 and ran into the park restrooms, closing himself into one of the stalls.

Selab, however, “followed the victim into the restrooms and pulled him from the stall. Selab allegedly locked the restroom door to prevent the victim from leaving, began kissing the victim’s face, and put a $20 bill in the victim’s hand. Selab also allegedly attempted to force the victim to touch Selab.” At that point, however, “another person arrived at the restroom and knocked at the door,” allowing the boy to escape.

Where might Selab have gotten the idea to behave in this manner and try to molest a twelve-year-old boy? The Washington Post, of all people, reported in July 18, 2017, that “hundreds of such outposts of the Afghan Local Police (ALP), a front-line force armed and funded with U.S. taxpayer dollars, and other pro-government militias are believed to have enslaved young boys for dancing and sexual companionship, many of them kidnapped.” This phenomenon is known as “bacha bazi,” which the Post defined as “the cultural practice of sexual slavery and abuse of boys who are often dressed effeminately and whose possession is seen by Afghan strongmen as a marker of power and masculinity.”

The Post added:

Institutionalized bacha bazi, described as culturally sanctioned male rape, is likely to continue unabated in the absence of any real deterrent. The United Nations has called on Afghanistan to urgently adopt legislation to criminalize bacha bazi and swiftly prosecute state officials guilty of the practice.

One senior official in Uruzgan described bacha bazi as an addiction worse than opium, saying commanders compete — and sometimes battle — one another to snatch pretty boys. Many prowl neighborhoods for boys “who have not seen the sun for years,” a cultural euphemism for unblemished beauty.

The practice is ultimately founded upon the Qur’an, which promises the believers that they will not only enjoy the famous heavenly virgins but “immortal boys” (56:17) who, “when you see them, you would take them for scattered pearls” (76:19).

Anyone who warned that some Afghan men might bring this practice with them to the United States would have been dismissed and excoriated as “Islamophobic” by the cultural Marxists who run refugee resettlement programs. And so now Shah Mahmood Selab and untold numbers of others like him are in the country, making it likely that this is only the first of many such cases we will be hearing about. If Biden’s DOJ had gotten its way, however, you would never have known that Selab was an Afghan refugee at all. There! That solves the problem, now, doesn’t it?

Joe Biden, Once Again, Is America's Top Firearms Salesman

Ryan Ledendecker

3:40 PM on October 05, 2022

We used to joke around that former President Barack Obama was the undisputed top firearms salesman in U.S. history, back when we thought we had real problems. I mean, yeah, things were bad, but nothing like it is now under President Joe Biden, whose policies have led to a continued record number of guns sold monthly.

Americans are cutting back on virtually everything to be able to pay crucial bills like their mortgage, rent, car payments, and energy bills. That’s because Biden’s nasty, out-of-control inflation, and the Fed hiking interest rates to tackle the inflation problem, means less money spent on pretty much anything that’s not necessary.

While firearms were once sort of a luxury purchase, America’s crime rates have soared so high under Democrats’ soft-on-crime policiesthat guns are now viewed by many as an absolute necessity. With defunded police departments and violent criminals not being held accountable by the system, a law-abiding citizen with a gun might very well be the new de facto police force in America. It’s really gotten that bad.

According to the Washington Examiner’s Paul Bedard, data from the FBI and the firearms industry indicates that firearms sales are through the roof. September marked the 38th month in a row that gun sales were well north of the one-million-sold mark.

Bedard noted:

Overall FBI background checksin September were 2,470,462, of which about half were for gun sales, according to Mark Oliva, spokesman for the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the gun industry trade group.

He said that “shows that firearm purchases remain steady and appear to be headed toward making 2022 the third strongest year on record for firearm sales.”

Oliva called the 38-month sales streak “a remarkable sustained trend and demonstrates that the firearm industry is meeting this continued increased demand for firearm ownership. This demonstrates that law-abiding Americans continue to purchase firearms for self-defense, hunting, and recreational shooting at levels that were unseen just three years ago and that the firearm industry continues to meet that demand for lawful firearm ownership.”

Justin Anderson, the marketing director for the mega-popular Hyatt Guns in Charlotte, N.C., was quoted as saying that gun buyers and the people registering to become eligible to obtain concealed carry permits have “a more purposeful focus on personal safety in what has become a very dangerous world.”

Anderson added that gun prices have started falling due to increased supply. “While inflation has affected sales in other markets, the gun industry is still overstocked on inventory,” Anderson said. “Prices have actually been trending lower, so I’m recommending to anyone on the fence about buying a gun: do it now. Pricing in the industry is as low as I’ve seen it in more than a decade.”

Undoubtedly, aside from the sharp uptick in violent crime plaguing many parts of the country, far-left progressive Democratic politicians are also responsible for the continual firearms sales records. Typically, Democrats exploit mass shooting situations (if the body count is high enough for sensational responses) and use them to spark new gun control debates. That fuels surges in gun purchases by law-abiding citizens who get nervous when Dems spew their anti-Second Amendment garbage proposals.

President Biden, on too many occasions to count, has vowed to pursue an “assault weapons ban,” at all costs. He usually trots that talking point out to the press after a mass shooting event. One Twitter user captured the sentiment of law-abiding gun owners perfectly, in response to Biden’s most recent promise to pass such a ban.

“Ironically, 25-million semi-automatic AR-15 rifles will remain in lawful civilian hands even if banned. And, don’t forget that gun-grabbers like you and Joe Biden are America’s best firearms salespeople. Keep it up and sales will continue to surge,” the Twitter user wrote.

Exactly.

WATCH: Biden Compares Floridians Losing Their Homes in Hurricane to a Small Kitchen Fire in His House

Matt Margolis

While speaking in Florida on Wednesday, Biden truly embarrassed himself when he tried to relate his own experience with a house fire to Floridians losing their homes in the hurricane.

“I know from experience, how much — how much anxiety and fear and concern [unintelligible] the people. We didn’t lose our whole home, but lightning struck and we lost an awful lot of it about 15 years ago.”

But, according to an Associated Press report after it happened, it was“a small fire that was contained to the kitchen.”

So Biden literally compared thousands of people losing their entire homes in a hurricane to a small house fire that was quickly contained. This is not the first time he’s exaggerated that small kitchen fire. According to the New York Post last year, Biden claimed his Delaware home “once burned down with the first lady inside.”

This is eerily reminiscent of Biden’s inappropriate efforts to empathize with Gold Star families by invoking his late son Beau, who died of brain cancer. Last year, Biden brought up Beau while visiting with the family members of U.S. servicemembers who died during his botched withdrawal from Afghanistan.

“When he just kept talking about his son so much it was just — my interest was lost in that,” said Mark Schmitz, whose 20-year-old son Jared died in Kabul. “I was more focused on my own son than what happened with him and his son. I’m not trying to insult the president, but it just didn’t seem that appropriate to spend that much time on his own son.”

The family of fallen Marine Rylee McCollum also reported that when they met with Biden, “he kept checking his watch and bringing up Beau.”

Biden’s efforts to empathize with people seem to always be a disaster. Whether it’s invoking his son, claiming to have been “raised” in a black church, a Jewish synagogue, or the Puerto Rican community, or just outright lying about his personal story, Joe Biden continues to prove that he is a phony through and through.

Hurricane Ian Recovery, Day Six – Survivors vs Victims

October 4, 2022

Ms. Veronica, an incredibly wise and multigenerational counsellor of souls.

Ms. Veronica is a lady of impeccable generosity, identified not simply by the hospitality and greeting, but also by the few moments of grace deserved and afforded in polite request to make herself more ‘presentable‘ for unexpected company.

Upon return, Ms Veronica immediately became Vera, a woman, widow, great grandma and neighbor who may not have enough, but she’d give a stranger half – and they would never know.

This is a powerful woman filled with a message. “Hurricane Ian did not create victims,” she immediately captured my full and undivided attention. She continued, “I am not a victim.”

“There are dead people, and there are survivors.”

Long pause. The depth of her eyes, intense.

I am wise enough to notice moments when my prior opinion of self, strength and fortitude are immediately being redefined. I am also smart enough to stay silent.

“Our loving God does not create victims, and apparently he is not finished using me.” Veronica’s eyes now alight. “In this moment I am filled with rejoicing,” she said, “because I know there is a purpose I have yet to fulfill.” From me, more smart silence. “How incredible is it for me at 90 to realize there’s more use, more purpose, and more time,” she concluded.

Then, just as casual as one might order a familiar coffee on any ordinary Tuesday, Vera asked…. “How is it I can help you boys?“…

There are rare moments in life when we say the right thing. For me today was one of those moments. My reply was simply, “I think you just did.”

You know something, she’s right.

All the Mr. and Mrs. Veronica’s are not victims; none of us are. God doesn’t create victims – people do.

How stark is the reality of hearing, “there are dead people, and there are survivors.”

If you are not in the former, none of us are, then we should rejoice and realize we have purpose yet unfulfilled.

Scott from Fort Myers beach lost every worldly possession including his home. Scott is not a victim. How do I know this? Because I’ve seen Scott over several recovery efforts, and today I worked side-by-side with Scott for almost two hours before someone passing a water bottle told me he lost everything.

Eventually after the task at hand was accomplished, ear plugs removed, I asked Scott what he needed. His reply was simple, he didn’t know enough yet to be able to answer that question. Oddly, I think I understand. Scott needs to accomplish the two feet in front of him. Purpose within this moment, because his new normal is miles ahead. Yes, today I was the incredibly shrinking man.

Now the fun part of this…. Remember Veronica? When she said, “how is it I can help you boys,” Scott was the plural, he was standing right beside me.

When we jumped in the back of the truck, he leaned over and said to me, there’s the answer to your question.

The message was big. Ms. Veronica was the vessel, and it was Scott -not me- who was the intended target.

♦ Cynthia (aka Cindy) and John are successful small business owners. They are as attached and committed to the Cape Coral, Florida, community as any young couple could be. After originally planning to ride out the storm, they changed their mind. Late last Tuesday they loaded their car with all their most important possessions and evacuated a few miles inland to stay with friends.

Cindy and John survived Hurricane Ian and returned late yesterday to survey their property and evaluate if they could start to rebuild. A massive power pole and tree blocked their driveway, but from the street it looked like the house was structurally okay. Nervously John and Cindy navigated the debris and went inside to check.

In the fifteen minutes they were inside their home, someone stole all their possessions from the car they parked on the street.

Cindy and John are victims, that’s the difference.

Oh, and the guy who handed me the water bottle and told me about Scott’s loss…. That was John.

Today I learned again that bearing witness makes you small in comparison.

Love to all,

~ Sundance
