Starting 5th of Oct, at 2 PM local Beirut time, I started to pray the rosary for the sake of every single soldier, warrior, resistance fighter and everyone in the crew and chain of command, who will take part in THE last battle.

I will be doing it every single day, same time, until the day Potus comes out and declare we have won.

I know some of you are reading. I only wanted you to know that when you stand on the battlefield, you are not alone. One froggie is there for you in prayers. Thank you for all you did and will do.

https://english.almayadeen.net/news/politics/lebanese-president-to-be-elected-on-oct-13—reports

Lebanese President reportedly to be elected on Oct. 13

The Lebanese parliament will meet next week to retry to elect a new president for Lebanon after September's trial failed, the National News Agency (NNA) reported on Thursday.

Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri had urged the parliament to convene on October 13, at 11 AM local time (08:00 GMT), the news agency said.

The Lebanese constitution stipulates that a candidate must receive the approval of two-thirds of the Parliament's 128 members. If the MPs fail to elect a President during the first session, the second session will only require the candidates to receive 65 votes (50%+1).

In September, the Lebanese parliament failed to elect a new President during the first session aimed at doing so due to none of the candidates receiving the mandated two-thirds of the vote.

During the first session, Berri announced that 63 MPs cast a blank paper, i.e., they did not vote for any of the candidates, 36 voted for Michel Mouawad, and 11 voted for Salim Edde.

After several lawmakers left Parliament, there was no longer a quorum, and the second round of elections could not take place. This means that the speaker must call for another parliamentary session to try and elect a new president again.

The six-year term of President Michel Aoun will end on October 31. He had become president following a deadlock that lasted for two and a half years and spanned more than 45 parliamentary sessions.

The deadlock stemmed from an internal crisis that the country was going through due to political disagreements, leaving candidates without the required number of votes.

The country is also in somewhat of a political crisis in the meantime, with a transitional cabinet running it as the formation of a new one has been facing delays for about a month due to political disputes.

Lebanon, a country of around six million people, is grappling with an unprecedented financial crisis that the World Bank says is on a scale usually associated with wars.

The country has been plunged into a deep financial and economic crisis for nearly two years, which paralyzed the country and mired more than 70% of its population into poverty.

The Lebanese banking system has completely collapsed, with the national currency depreciating more than 20 times against the USD.

The World Bank warned that Lebanon was enduring an economic depression that might rank among the top 10 worst economic crises in the world since the mid-nineteenth century, in the absence of any solution on the horizon that would get it out of a reluctance reality exacerbated by political paralysis.

The small Mediterranean country defaulted on its debt in 2020; the Lebanese currency has lost around 90% of its value on the black market, and the UN now considers four in five Lebanese to be living under the poverty line.

'Israel' response means nothing: Lebanese Security General chief

Lebanon is not concerned with the Israeli response to the proposal on the demarcation of the maritime borders between Beirut and "Tel Aviv", Lebanese Security General Director General and one of the officials on Lebanon's negotiating team, Abbas Ibrahim, said on Thursday.

The Lebanese official underlined that US mediator Amos was responsible for dealing with the occupation's response to Lebanon.

"The Israeli's response means nothing to us as Lebanon," and Beirut "is waiting for the US negotiator to assume his responsibilities," he said. As long as Lebanon has a united front, it will stand strong, Ibrahim stressed.

An Israeli official said Thursday that the Israeli occupation rejected revisions requested by Lebanon to the US-mediated border demarcation proposal.

The official, announcing Israeli occupation Prime Minister Yair Lapid’s decision to reject the revision requests, warned that any further negotiations would cease should Hezbollah threaten the Karish gas rig.

According to the Israeli official, "Israel will begin production of natural gas from its Karish field as soon as that is possible," and he warned the Lebanese resistance against taking any retaliatory action against the occupation.

This comes after Lebanon received the written proposal from the US mediator Amos Hochstein through US Ambassador Dorothy Shea regarding the demarcation of maritime borders.

The United States made an offer to the Israeli occupation and Lebanon to resolve the maritime border issue, Israeli media claimed in late September. The proposal is reportedly linked to the path the Lebanese-Israeli maritime borders will follow.

The settlement proposal, Haaretz said, asked to change and adjust line 23 toward Lebanon instead of near the coast in order to allow for a "bigger defensive area against possible threats from the sea, near the coastline."

The settlement proposal, according to Israeli news outlet Haaretz, asked to change and adjust line 23 toward Lebanon instead of near the coast in order to allow for a "bigger defensive area against possible threats from the sea, near the coastline."

It is noteworthy that the Lebanese Resistance, Hezbollah, has been a very effective factor in bringing the Israelis to the indirect negotiations table after it announced from day one that it has the Lebanese government's back in its righteous and sovereign claims.

Extraction of gas from Karish without guarantees to Lebanon that it will be able to explore and extract its maritime resources has been declared a red-line by Hezbollah since the negotiations kicked off, with the Israeli military receiving the threats loud and clear and increasing preparation to anticipate operations against the gas platform by the Resistance.

Lebanese President Michel Aoun responded to the Israeli occupation's rejection of Beirut's proposed changes to the Lebanese-Israeli maritime borders. He underlined that Lebanon had proposed the changes to the US-mediated deal with its rights to extract oil in its exclusive economic zone in mind.

"The remarks prevent any explanations that do not fall into the framework detailed by Lebanon for the demarcation process and during the negotiations," President Aoun said.

The US-brokered talks between Beirut and "Tel Aviv" were at a "make or break" point after the latter rejected the negotiations, top Lebanese negotiator Elias Bou Saab told Reuters earlier in the day.

The deal "is 90% done, but the remaining 10% could make it or break it," Bou Saab added, dealing that he had been in constant contact with US mediator Amos Hochstein.

DPRK holds drills with 12 fighter jets in response to South Korea

Thursday afternoon witnessed a dozen North Korean jets conducting a firing drill after the DPRK’s launch of two short-range ballistic missiles earlier in the day, according to South Korea’s military source to NK News.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said that eight North Korean fighter jets and four bombers flew in formation north of the inter-Korean air border for about an hour, seemingly carrying out air-to-surface firing exercises, adding that some of the DPRK warplanes violated South Korea’s “special reconnaissance line", which purposes to the north of an agreed inter-Korean airspace buffer zone outlined in the 2018 inter-Korean military agreement on both sides of the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) dividing the Koreas.

The South Korean military sent what it labeled as an “overwhelming” response with 30 aircraft that included F-15K fighter jets, but there were no specifications regarding their proximity and location to the North Korean formation.

However, Yonhap News Agency, without citing a source, denied that the DPRK warplanes breached the buffer zone that would have called for “tactical measures” from Seoul. The military also allegedly relayed to Yonhap that North Korean formation flights are rare and had not been seen in the past year, and it remains ambiguous if the DPRK jet activities and the South Korean response took place earlier but went unpublicized.

It is worth mentioning that Washington has approximately 28,500 troops stationed in South Korea, escalating the tension in the heated region.

Pyong Yang launched two ballistic missiles into the East Sea on Thursday, which marked the sixth DPRK missile test event in the last two weeks following its launch of an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) over Japan into the Pacific Ocean two days earlier which according to experts and the NK Pro Missile Tracker is its longest missile test ever.

In light of Tuesday's test, the US and South Korean fighter jets conducted an attack-flight training whereby a South Korean F-15K jet dropped “precision” bombs on a fake target, and that evening, six missiles were fired into the East Sea but one failed while carrying a warhead.

The navies pertaining to the US, South Korea, and Japan also executed joint missile defense training on Thursday, which according to US Indo-Pacific Command, featured destroyers from each of the three nations and notably from the USS Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group.

The US aircraft carrier, after having just visited South Korea for anti-submarine drills with ROK and Japanese forces last week, made an unusual return to waters east of the peninsula on Wednesday as an attempt to “strengthen the readiness posture of the ROK-U.S. alliance,” the JCS said.

Russia, Mali reaffirm strengthening security cooperation in Sahel

4 Oct 20:09

Russian President Vladimir Putin and the interim Malian President, Assimi Goita, in a telephone conversation, reaffirmed their intentions to strengthen security cooperation to eradicate terrorist groups in the Sahel region, according to the Kremlin.

"The parties confirmed mutual commitment to further strengthen Russian-Malian security cooperation to eradicate terrorist groups across Mali," the Kremlin's statement read.

Mali is one of the countries in the Sahel region most affected by terrorist attacks.

Earlier in September, nearly 50 people were killed after ISIS-affiliated jihadists mounted an attack on a village in northern Mali, according to AFP.

According to sources, the raid was followed by intense fighting between them and other armed groups, including Al-Qaeda-affiliated jihadists.

"More than 45 civilians were killed when the Islamic State took over (on Tuesday) – they burned down houses, the market and other places," the official said.

Mali has been under threat from terrorists since 2012 and has witnessed two military coups since 2020.

Colonels angry at the government's handling of the long-running insurgency seized power in August 2020, then carried out another coup in May the following year.

The junta that came to power in August 2020 has had sharp tensions with France, which had sent troops to its former colony in what many saw as a bid to still have a foothold in the country.

The Malian people have a profound sentiment of resentment toward France due to its failure to achieve any tangible achievements in terms of the country's security, political instability, and economic issues in the last ten years.

The leaders of Mali and Burkina Faso recently met on September 4 to strengthen their military cooperation.

Burkina Faso's Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba and Mali's Colonel Assimi Goita agreed to "better examine and strengthen" the military partnership between the two countries.

"The two countries… intend to pool their efforts in the fight against terrorism," the statement said.

https://english.almayadeen.net/news/politics/israel-ready-to-help-ukraine-without-crossing-red-lines:-amb

'Israel' ready to help Ukraine without crossing 'red lines': Amb

The Israeli occupation is ready to help Kiev against Russia in the ongoing war, but without crossing the "red lines" that could undermine "Tel Aviv's" security, the Israeli occupation's ambassador to Ukraine, Michael Brodsky, said on Tuesday.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in late September that he was "shocked" the Israeli occupation was not joining the West in supplying Kiev with weapons in light of the Ukraine war.

"Israel is actively helping Ukraine, but without crossing the 'red lines.' These 'red lines' are connected with a very difficult situation in the Middle East. Israel is, in fact, sitting on top of a powder keg. Israel needs to act very carefully and take into account, first of all, the interests of its own security," Brodsky said.

The Israeli occupation has a clear understanding of the consequences of crossing these so-called "red lines".

"I understand that they need to defend their territory, but I have learned from our intelligence that Israel has been actually supplying these defense systems to other countries," Zelensky said on September 23.

What comes off as inaccurate about the Ukrainian President's words is that Israeli media reported earlier in the month that an Israeli arms manufacturer was supplying anti-UAV systems to Ukraine via Poland, with the sales conducted through Warsaw to circumvent "Tel Aviv's" refusal to sell advanced arms to Ukraine.

The firm reportedly informed the Israeli Ministry of Security that it was selling arms to Poland, though it pretended not to know the latter was then giving the weapons to Kiev to use against Russia.

The anti-UAV systems enable their users to intercept and disrupt drones. Classified as "advanced defensive technology", the systems are not approved for sale to Kiev, though "Tel Aviv" did not seem to be interested in foiling the deal.

The Israeli occupation uses anti-drone systems around the Gaza separation wall, the Palestinian-Lebanese borders, and the Palestinian-Syrian borders, with "Israel" claimed to be one of the world's top developers and manufacturers of the technology with the involvement of various Israeli arms manufacturers, such as IAI, Elbit, and MCTECH.

The Israeli occupation has refused to join the West's bid in arming Ukraine, arguing that it would harm its already sensitive ties with Russia.

However, due to "Israel's" support of Ukraine, tensions soared between "Tel Aviv" and Moscow, prompting the latter to close the "Jewish Agency for Israel's" work in Russia, giving rise to further tensions.

Relations between "Israel" and Russia have witnessed tension in recent months, as the Russian Foreign Ministry summoned the Israeli ambassador to Russia, Alexander Ben Zvi, over a statement by Yair Lapid when he was foreign minister in April, when he condemned Russia's practices in Ukraine, describing them as "war crimes".

In addition to the Jewish Agency issue between "Israel" and Russia, a dual-citizen Israeli-Ukrainian by the name of Vladimir Kozlovsky was captured in the Lugansk People's Republic as he was fighting among the mercenaries siding with Ukraine. It is evident that his release will not take place easily in light of the lack of trust between "Israel" and Russia.

NATO is preparing for war: Belarus MoD

4 Oct 22:16

Minsk cannot turn a blind eye to the increasing militarization of its Western neighbors, as there is concrete evidence that NATO countries are preparing their infrastructure and their troops for war, according to Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin.

"The situation is really complicated today. A number of hostile leaders of the neighboring countries, unfortunately, have openly outlined the goals that they want to achieve by working against our country. We cannot leave this without attention," Khrenin said as quoted in Beita.

The minister specifically said that the country has both the forces and the means to respond to any threat that may rise.

Under the guise of an imaginary threat from the East, NATO and West neighboring Belarus are not just militarizing, but also preparing for war, said Khrenin.

"They are preparing their infrastructure, their troops. We have specific data. We are monitoring the situation, we see what they are doing. Proceeding from this, we are mapping out concrete and adequate response measures," the minister added.

NATO has ramped up its presence by planting battle groups in Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia.

In July, the Belarusian President said that Minsk will continue to support Russia in its fight against Nazism.

Lukashenko stressed that Belarus is reproached as "the only country in the world that supports Russia in its struggle against Nazism, for its efforts to put up a barrier against the abuse of Russian people. We have supported and will continue to support Russia. These reproaches are ridiculous and sad."

Lukashenko wondered how those who reproach Belarus do not know that the alliance being built between Russia and Belarus is a "single, powerful, independent Union State of two independent peoples? We are trailblazers; this experience is unique in the world. We must set this example for others. Didn't they know that the union of Belarus and Russia has a single grouping of armed forces which was set up a long time? In fact, this is a single army. They all know that. So why are they reproaching us today? We have been together with fraternal Russia."

The President reiterated that from the start of the operation in Ukraine, Belarus voiced its support for Russia.

https://english.almayadeen.net/news/politics/zakharova-suggests-denmark-sweden-probably-know-pipeline-sab

Zakharova suggests Denmark, Sweden probably know pipeline saboteurs

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova questioned the reason behind the decision not to include Moscow in the investigations. In a briefing she made on Thursday, Zakharova stated that "official Copenhagen proceeds from the fact that this incident is not an accident, but the result of deliberate actions and considers it necessary to conduct an international investigation of this incident. At the same time, according to the foreign minister, Denmark does not intend to have a dialogue with Moscow on this issue."

Zakharova added that "this can only be explained in one way — they probably know who did it, so Moscow's opinion is simply not interesting, because the suspect has already been identified, and it is already possible to bring him to justice."

Following a statement made by Denmark and Sweden on Wednesday expressing plans to carry out investigations on the explosion that occurred at the Nord Stream gas pipeline without Russia, Kremlin Spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, stated on Thursday that Moscow expressed its deep regrets through diplomatic channels that it is not being included as part of the investigations on the terrorist attack that targeted the Nord Stream pipeline.

"We do not consider it possible to conduct an objective investigation without the participation of the Russian side," he added.

During a meeting at the UN Security Council that took place on September 30, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that Moscow wants a thorough investigation into an act of sabotage against the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines.

Nebenzya stated in the meeting that, "Russia calls for a thorough investigation to find out the real cause of what happened," adding, "We hope that you (Western members of the UNSC) will refrain from engaging in Russophobic verbal games that defy common sense, similar to those that you used in relation to Ukrainian strikes on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant."

In the same context, Russian Foreign Intelligence Service chief Sergei Naryshkin told reporters on Friday that Russia already holds proof that the West is accountable for the pipeline explosions. "We already have some materials that point to the Western footprint in organizing and carrying out this terrorist act," Naryshkin said. He expressed that the West does everything to "hide the true organizers and perpetrators of this international terrorist act."

Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev stated on Friday at a meeting of the heads of intelligence agencies of the CIS countries, after the fourth explosion hit the Nord Stream pipelines, that the United States is the main beneficiary of the emergency situation.

"Literally from the first minutes after reports of explosions on the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines, the West launched an active campaign to find those responsible. However, it is obvious that the main beneficiary, primarily economic, is the United States," Patrushev said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin blamed the situation on the West. "It’s clear to everyone who benefits from this. And the one who benefits from this is the one who did it," Putin stressed.

US military aircraft circled Nord Stream incident site in September

US military helicopters habitually and on numerous occasions circled for hours over the site of the Nord Stream pipelines incident near Bornholm Island earlier in September.

Flightradar24 data showed that earlier this month, a US Navy Sikorsky MH-60R Seahawk helicopter spent hours loitering over the location of the damaged natural gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea near Bornholm for several days in a row, September 1, 2, and 3 in particular.

Flightradar24 showed an unidentified aircraft that did not even have a helicopter icon hovering over the site. However, the aircraft's 24-bit ICAO code included in the description makes it possible to establish the model, which is the US military's Sikorsky MH-60R Seahawk. The code is verified through open resources that collect data on military aircraft.

The US helicopter is also shown by the aircraft tracking service to have flown into the area of loitering over the Nord Stream pipelines from Gdansk, Poland.

On the second day of the loitering, almost in parallel with their US counterpart, a Dutch navy NH9 helicopter was flying in the vicinity of Bornholm Island, and it is expected to have been observing the Americans' activity.

US helicopters also took flights over other Nord Stream pipelines on September 10 and 19 and others stayed over the incident site for hours on the night of September 22 and September 25.

Reportedly, helicopters that made sorties on the night of September 22-23 and 25-26 have especially confusing tracks.

CIA warned Berlin about Nord Stream attack weeks ahead

The US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) warned the German government there would be attacks on Nord Stream gas pipelines weeks ahead of any incident being reported around the pipelines, German newspaper Der Spiegel reported Tuesday.

An informed source told the German newspaper that Berlin had been informed by the CIA a few weeks ago that there would be attacks on the key pipelines supplying a huge portion of Europe's energy from Russia.

The media outlet cited several unnamed individuals as confirming that the CIA tipped the German government about the incident that was yet to take place.

It's noteworthy that Nord Stream AG reported on Tuesday that on September 26, three threads of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 offshore gas pipelines sustained unprecedented damage. Two explosions were recorded along the Nord Stream pipelines, according to Swedish seismologists, while Swedish National Seismic Network (SNSN) reported powerful underwater explosions in the area of gas leaks from the Nord Stream pipeline on September 27.

Demonstrators in Burkina Faso wave Russian flags

4 Oct 23:13

Protestors in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, waved their Russian flags on Tuesday as West African delegates arrived in the country to investigate the country's second coup in less than 9 months. Calling for France's expulsion from the country, supporters chanted in support of Russia.

Demonstrators warned ECOWAS, or the Economic Community of West African States, against meddling in Burkina Faso's affairs.

Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba was toppled over the weekend by 34-year-old Captain Ibrahim Traore. This military takeover was followed by protests against French intervention.

The ECOWAS delegation arrived this Tuesday morning to meet Traore in the president's office. In two years, ECOWAS has seen 5 coup d'etats in its 15 members.

In a statement, Traore said that ECOWAS' visit was to "make contact with the new transition authorities," saying that he learned "with astonishment and regret" that messages were circulating on social media calling for his mission to be hampered.

"Any person who commits acts aimed at disturbing the smooth course of the ECOWAS mission will face the force of the law," Traore said.

Yesterday, security forces fired harmful tear gas at protesters outside the French embassy in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, according to an AFP journalist. France has previously occupied the country and ruled it with an iron fist while still intervening in its internal affairs to this day, ruining the lives of many.

Supporters of Burkina Faso's newest coup d'etat leader gathered outside the embassy one day after the leader accused the man he deposed of hiding in a French base, plotting a "counteroffensive."

Mali witnessed a large presence of French forces for nearly a decade, but French President Emmanuel Macron decided to withdraw his troops and the Malian military took over. The last French troops from Barkhane departed last month.

Two French nationals detained in Iran confess to stirring unrest

Iran has released a video of two French citizens, Cecile Kohler and Jacque Paris, arrested for espionage in Tehran.

The two are unionists with France's National Federation of Education, Culture, and Vocational Training.

In the clips, Kohler confessed to being an “intelligence and operation agent of French foreign security service.”

On his part, Paris admitted to DGSE's goal of exerting pressure on the Iranian government.

“Our goal in French foreign security service is to put pressure on Iran’s government,” he said.

The clips are part of a "forthcoming documentary" to air on Iranian state television where they are accused of "bringing cash to the country to stir dissent."

France did not immediately respond to the release of the video clips. However, in May, the French government demanded their release and condemned what it called "these baseless arrests."

Kohler and Paris were in Iran "to prepare the conditions for the revolution and the overthrow of the Iranian Islamist regime," as per their confessions.

Kohler could be heard saying that they intended to finance strikes and rallies, as well as employ guns "to fight the police."

The two French nationals infiltrated into Iran as tourists on April 28 but turned out to be spies for Western intelligence agencies.

According to the Iranian Intelligence Ministry, the duo attempted to foment instability and social disorder earlier in June when some teachers took to the streets in peaceful protests to demand fair wages and better working conditions.

Two French spies are shown entering Iran and participating in protests in a video released by local media.

In an audio file, a woman and a man can be heard discussing a "battle to gather majority" to create a "revolutionary doc". The video also includes photos of the French couple visiting activists in Iran who were imprisoned on spying or attempting to cause social disorder charges.

Some photos show the two with teachers' unionists, including Rasoul Bodaqi. According to the video, the French nationals were arrested on suspicion of spying.

Canada NDP member calls out Israeli center for supporting crimes

On August 26, Jagmeet Singh, a Canadian third-party politician, sent a number of New Democratic Party (NDP) supporters an email calling to support Palestinian rights. On the other hand, The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) noted last week in an email: “Thousands and thousands of you joined in to act against the outrageous letter from NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh that demonizes everyone who identifies with and feels a connection to the Jewish state. Policies like those we saw in the letter breed antisemitism here at home – they put Jews in danger.”

Singh's email listed 13 demands of the Liberal government on Palestinian rights, including the referral of the murder of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh to the International Criminal Court, the condemnation of the construction of illegal settlements and demolitions of Palestinian homes in the West Bank, and the cessation of all trade and economic cooperation with illegal settlements.

In response to that, CIJA urged its supporters to “Tell the NDP to stop using this divisive rhetoric that infantilizes Palestinians, demonizes Israelis, and ignores the reality on the ground" as they released a statement to the press and launched a lobbying campaign.

Singh attended a CIJA lobbying session on Parliament Hill last week to celebrate a state recently found to be committing a crime against humanity by Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch but Singh refused to cooperate with a recent call by 40 groups to disassociate the NDP from the Canada-Israel Interparliamentary Group.

The letter signed by Noam Chomsky, Linda McQuaig, Svend Robinson, and Roger Waters, released to the public two weeks ago, expresses that “it is incoherent for the NDP to echo human rights groups finding of Israeli apartheid and simultaneously participate in a group promoting ‘co-operation’ with Israel.”

A 2018 EKOS poll sponsored by Independent Jewish Voices and United Jewish People’s Order found a significant proportion of Jewish Canadians criticized Israeli policies toward the Palestinians with 48% feeling that accusations of antisemitism were tools to silence legitimate criticism of Israeli policies.

Hamilton MP Matthew Green has stood up to the CIJA's bullying towards Singh, tweeting: "If CIJA thinks running a smear campaign in the Toronto Sun against us will cause us to turn a blind eye to the Apartheid regime in "Israel" they are sorely mistaken.”

Third-place presidential candidate declares support for Lula

5 Oct 23:39

Simone Tebet, centralist Brazilian senator, said she will be supported by leftist candidate Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva against far-right incumbent President Jair Bolsonaro, when the final vote takes place on October 30. Tebet has so far finished third in the presidential race.

In the first round on Sunday, Tebet garnered almost 5 million votes, rendering the candidate ineligible for the second round.

She announced her support for Lula because of "his support for Brazilian democracy and the constitution."

Brazil braces for runoff; Lula da Silva to face Bolsonaro

The bitterly contested presidential election in Brazil will go to a runoff on October 30, with incumbent Jair Bolsonaro finishing a close second to front-runner Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

It was an unexpectedly strong result for Bolsonaro – and for Brazil's far-right, revealed in a number of key Congressional and governors' races.

Lula, Brazil's ex-president, who led the country from 2003 to 2010, was considered the favorite to win the race in a single round.

Le Pen slams Macron's administration for encouraging 'warmer clothes'

5 Oct 00:01

Marine Le Pen the French right-wing politician accused French authorities of "infantilizing" the population by suggesting people wear warmer clothes to save on heating as an energy crisis brews in Europe.

At a National Assembly meeting, Le Pen said: "A few days ago, Economy and Finance Minister [Bruno Le Maire] explained to us that the French budget is calculated 'up to every euro'. This came before the wardrobe tips to spend the winter better, which were successful in the government, from warm sweatshirts to turtlenecks. I will not participate in this infantilization of our compatriots."

Earlier this week, French media reported that many politicians have started wearing winter clothes despite that it's 18 degrees-celsius, promoting 'energy-saving' policies. The finance minister has recently tweeted a photo of himself wearing a turtleneck in his office.

The minister noted that employees in the administration will be wearing turtlenecks instead of ties to stay warmer - a publicity attempt at getting the French to save up on heating… it's going to be a cold winter.

French President Emmanuel Macron made a video message wearing a black turtle neck.

Le Maire and Macron weren't the only two. Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne showed up in a meeting wearing the same attire.

Proposing a new energy program for France, Macron's program entails the need to reduce electricity consumption by 10% by 2024 to avoid shortages in the winter. Paris has also ushered companies to submit their grand plans on how they will be reducing consumption.

Public building and ministry heatings will also be reduced to save energy, toning it down to a maximum of 19 degrees Celsius.

Russia weighing all options in Nord Stream terrorist attacks: Diplomat

When questioned on Thursday about Russia's plan B to identify the cause behind the Nord Stream terrorist attacks in case the investigation goes awry, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin asserted that his country is "considering all options."

A day before, Vershinin stated that Moscow maintains its stance on conducting an international probe into the recent explosions that targeted the Nord Stream gas pipelines, adding that it was critical for both Russia and Germany to be involved in the process.

On September 26, three pipelines in the Nord Stream network that runs under the Baltic Sea from Russia to Germany recorded a rapid gas pressure drop and leakage, and three days later, the Swedish Coast Guard declared a fourth gas leak on the damaged pipelines. Sweden, Germany, and Denmark have announced their beliefs that the incidents are the works of sabotage, but the Russian Prosecutor General's Office has labeled the pipeline incidents as acts of international terrorism.

The pipeline operator, Nord Stream AG, said that giving an estimated timeframe for the repair would be impossible.

Russia exclusion puts the credibility of EU probe at risk: Expert

"Russia must be involved in the investigation, as its main energy company, Gazprom, is co-owner of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 installations. Without Russia, the conclusions would not have any validity," Samuele Furfari, professor of the geopolitics of energy at Brussels university ULB, told Sputnik.

This comes after Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said at a UN Security Council meeting on October 1 that Russia "will certainly establish all those involved in this act of sabotage. Any international investigation into what happened can claim impartiality only if Russia takes part in it."

In the same context, Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov expressed Russia's concern on Wednesday regarding the recent news conferences in Sweden and Denmark as they suggested Russia's exclusion from the Nord Stream probe. Peskov rejected Western accusations of Russia being the perpetrator as "absurd", while President Vladimir Putin pointed at the US and the UK as the possible culprits.

Furfari suggested that the UK being a powerful ally of Germany and the prime beneficiary of cheap Russian gas might have done the damage to prevent Russia from tempting Germany into reopening the taps during the upcoming winter.

"Europe is still faced with the stressing problem of replacing 170 billion cubic meters of gas that Russia was delivering through Nord Stream 1. And the EU still does not know how it could be replaced immediately. It would take years to build the ships to transport LNG and the LNG terminals to replace Russian gas," Furfari concluded.
