New York City is losing hundreds of prosecutors, quitting amid reforms taking place at the district attorneys' offices.

Alvin Bragg, the district attorney of Manhattan, has seen his office lose 65 assistant district attorneys – about one-eight of his staff – this year.

During his first week in office, Bragg released a memo that ordered prosecutors not to seek prison sentences for an increased number of crimes and to lessen charges against some offenses, including robberies ad commercial burglaries, crimes that have skyrocketed since the summer of 2020.

In Brooklyn, 67 prosecutors – about 13% of the office – have resigned from District Attorney Eric Gonzalez's office. In 2020, 84 resigned, and 94 left in 2021. In the Bronx, 59 prosecutors have quit during the first half of the year.

Former Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Joan Illuzzi-Orbon, also the trial division chief who prosecuted Harvey Weinstein, and others told the New York Post that some of the intense regulations that New York adopted in 2019 are "crippling our lawyers."

Some of the recently adopted requirements order lawyers to turn over significant amounts of material to the defense in a short period of time.

"You become a file clerk rather than a trial lawyer," lluzzi-Orbon said. "Most of it is completely irrelevant and not germane in any way to the issues of the case."

Lithuania ready to expand Kaliningrad blockade – president

The country is prepared to face retaliatory steps by Russia, Gitanas Nauseda has said

Vilnius is ready to expand the list of goods banned from transit to Russia’s exclave of Kaliningrad should the European Union introduce new sanctions against Moscow, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said on Wednesday. The country is also ready to face any potential retaliatory measures Russia might introduce, he told Reuters in an interview.

“We are ready and we are prepared for unfriendly actions from Russia, such as disconnection from the BRELL [power grid] system, or others,” Nauseda said.

The president stressed that the transit restrictions were not a sovereign move by Lithuania, but merely the implementation of the EU sanctions against Moscow introduced over the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. “We feel the support of the European Union, because this is a decision made by the European Union,” he said, adding that the country was ready to expand the list of banned goods should the bloc introduce new restrictions against Russia.

“We are looking forward to implementing the next stages of the sanctions, and it would be very good if the European Commission explains their content to the Russian authorities. It could remove some of the current tensions, which are not in the interest of either the European Union or Russia,” Nauseda stated.

Over the weekend, Lithuania’s national railway operator banned the flow of sanctioned goods between the region and the rest of Russia, citing guidelines from the European Commission. The restrictions have also affected road traffic into the exclave, according to Kaliningrad officials. Both Vilnius and the EU insist that the restrictions do not amount to a “blockade” of the exclave.

Moscow, however, has unequivocally branded Vilnius’ move as an “economic blockade” of Kaliningrad Region, stating that it violated the country’s international obligations to ensure the uninterrupted transit of goods to the exclave. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday that Vilnius’ decision was “unprecedented” and in “violation of anything and everything.”

The head of Russia’s Security Council, Nikolay Patrushev, warned that the “blockade” might invoke a response from Moscow that would “have a serious negative impact on the people of Lithuania.”

“Of course, Russia will respond to hostile actions. Appropriate measures are in the works, and will be adopted in the near future,” Patrushev told reporters during a visit to Kaliningrad on Tuesday.

Description

This building on Sloane Avenue, between Ixworth Place and the Marlborough Primary School, was once a Harrods depository. It was built in 1911 and clad in terracotta and granite. The terracotta and Edwardian Baroque style giving it the same appearance as the main Harrods store in Knightsbridge.

In 1994 Stanton Williams were given a brief to, "create 140,000 square feet of speculative new office space, shops and a restaurant while retaining the partial existing terracotta elevations of the existing building." To do that they used glass, metal and stone to, "… extend and complement the terracotta facades to produce a sensitive contemporary design that gained support from the planners. Two interlocking L-shaped forms were created, one solid in appearance and the other glazed and transparent. Natural light was captured with a 30 metre long glass-roofed atrium built between the two forms, to create an inspiring work space. A solid projecting canopy created a roof terrace and reduced midday glare in the atrium. Delicate steel and glass bridges and spiral stairs were introduced to animate the space."

On June 7, 2012, an article was posted on the "CoStar Group" website claiming that the owners of the building were about to sell the building for £115m. At the time they said that, " … The property comprises 89,112 sq ft of offices arranged over the four upper floors, with floor plates of around 22,000 sq ft. This happened at the University of Minnesota!

Looks like a war zone! Why is this not on the news??

Is it not on the news because the people with guns are a certain color? (Doesn’t fit their narrative)
