El Paso launches online dashboard to track ongoing migrant crisis

El Paso has launched a new online migrant dashboard as over 60,000 border crossers have passed through the overwhelmed Texas city in the last six months.

The city’s new Migrant Situational Awareness Dashboard provides weekly statistics on the number of migrant encounters reported by federal agencies as well as data on those released into the community and the number of migrants provided services at El Paso’s Migrant Welcome Center.

The new data center was introduced as El Paso has extended an emergency declaration as it struggles to handle its ongoing migrant crisis as people cross the border in record numbers.

According to the city, more than 62,000 people passed through El Paso from April 2022 to mid-September 2022. In September alone, over 13,000 have passed through El Paso — the highest number the city has experienced.

Agents from US Customs and Border Protection are encountering a weekly average of 2,100 migrants per day, data shows. Approximately 70% of the individuals and family units come from Venezuela.

The city has served over 16,600 migrants at its welcome center, where they are given food, water and assistance to get to their desired destination.

The crisis influx has been a major economic burden for El Paso, costing the city as much as $10 million per month, prompting the officials to begin sending migrants to sanctuary cities such as New York and Chicago.

Last month, the City of El Paso was spending $300,000 a day to shelter, feed and send asylum-seeking immigrants to New York City — with the blessing of mayor Eric Adams — as well as Chicago.

City officials said El Paso is chartering nine to 14 buses a day, according to KFOX. The city is expecting $2 million in federal assistance money to help with the situation.

So far this year, the city has chartered travel for over 12,000 migrants — 9,350 bound for New York City and another 2,664 for Chicago, according to the dashboard.

Putin urges Asia to cooperate on fighting terrorism at CICA

Afghanistan's terrorism situation was raised by the Russian president as an alarm at the CICA conference to call for stabilizing the nation.

Asian countries were called on by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday for closer cooperation with the international data bank to fight terrorism.

At the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Astana, Putin said, "We invite all Asian countries to carry out closer cooperation with the international data bank approved at the initiative of Russia to counter terrorism."

Putin brings awareness to threats facing poor countries

At the conference, Putin also raised the matter of the potential, yet real threat of famine and social uprisings in the developing and poorest nations due to the staggering increase in global prices of energy, food, and raw materials.

"Our conference and other regional associations have to solve many acute problems. I mean, among other things, the increased volatility of world prices for energy resources, food, fertilizers, raw materials and other important goods. This leads to a deterioration in the quality of life in both developed and developing countries. Moreover, there is a real threat of famine and widespread social upheavals, especially in the poorest countries," Putin expressed.

Afghanistan is among most pressing security matters

Afghanistan is considered one of the most acute security challenges in the region, which according to Putin, fell into problems it cannot solve by itself following the withdrawal of US occupation forces.

"Unfortunately, Afghanistan remains one of the most acute security challenges for our region. My colleagues have already spoken about it today. After over 20-year military presence of the United States and NATO, and the failure of their policies, the country has proved unable to independently solve problems related to terrorist threats," Putin said, after bringing up the explosion that occurred at the Russian Embassy in Kabul in September and a series of "continuous bloody terrorist attacks" after that.

As he called on the international community, in addition to suggesting the inclusion of the SCO in the process, to promote and advocate for Afghanistan's economic recovery. "First of all, we call for compensating for the damage caused to Afghans during the years of occupation and unfreezing the illegally blocked Afghan assets," the Russian President said.

The Taliban took power in Afghanistan in August 2021, battling a local chapter of IS, which is believed to be responsible for the majority of terrorist attacks and bomb explosions in Afghanistan. Financial aid has been halted by the World Bank and the IMF which accounted for nearly 75% of Afghanistan's public expenditure, and the US has placed a $7 billion asset freeze on the Afghan central bank

Can The Flood of Lies About Ukraine and Russia Be Stopped?

As someone who worked first hand on the CIA’s Afghanistan propaganda campaign in 1985-86, I feel somewhat qualified to comment on the scale and scope of the current propaganda campaign intended to whip up support in the West for Ukraine and galvanize international outrage against Russia–it is titanic and it is out of control.

Where to start? How about the Kerch Bridge fiasco? Initially, the blast on the west bound span of the bridge was celebrated wildly as a massive triumph for Ukraine and a bitter defeat for Russia. The Associated Press account is representative of the media reactions:

An explosion Saturday caused the partial collapse of a bridge linking the Crimean Peninsula with Russia, damaging an important supply artery for the Kremlin’s faltering war effort in southern Ukraine and hitting a towering symbol of Russian power in the region.

Nobody immediately claimed responsibility for the blast, which killed three people. The speaker of the Russian-backed regional parliament in Crimea accused Ukraine, but Moscow didn’t apportion blame. Ukrainian officials have repeatedly threatened to strike the bridge, and some lauded the destruction on Saturday. But Kyiv stopped short of claiming responsibility.

Any lingering doubt that this bridge bombing was the handiwork of the Ukrainians was erased when Kiev released the mock up of a stamp that will be issued in November celebrating the victory over the Russians
