The US will make no distinction in its response to Russia’s use of any type of nuclear weapon in its war with Ukraine.
This was announced on CNN on October 16 by National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.
The host asked Sullivan if the White House would equate a large-scale nuclear attack, such as Russia’s use of so-called “tactical” nuclear weapons in Ukraine.
“The use of nuclear weapons on the battlefield in Ukraine is the use of nuclear weapons on the battlefield in Ukraine,” Sullivan replied, emphasizing that the US would not agree to the so-called “salami slicing” tactics (when someone does something slowly and gradually, so that people do not realize what is happening – UNIAN).
Sullivan also added that he considers it dangerous to think that there are any differences in the use of nuclear weapons.
“From our perspective, we believe that the United States should, working with our NATO allies and partners and other responsible countries around the world, including countries such as China and India, send a very clear and strong signal to Russia that they should not consider using nuclear weapons in this conflict,” Sullivan said.
