Hunter Biden 'part of Chinese intelligence mission,' says former acting attorney general
Whitaker said the national security concern elevates Hunter Biden's alleged crimes to a higher level.
Former Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker said Hunter Biden was "part of a Chinese intelligence mission," after House Republicans released evidence of how the president's son's former business partner was connected to the Chinese Communist Party.
"There is no doubt that Hunter Biden was part of a Chinese intelligence mission that was trying to gather as much information as possible about Joe Biden, Hunter Biden and the entire Biden family," Whitaker, a former Trump appointee, told Fox News last week.
His interview came days after House Republicans released evidence that before becoming Hunter Biden's business partner and close associate, JiaQi "Jackie" Bao worked for the Chinese Communist Party at an agency that approves foreign-funded projects.
"I have always felt that in addition to the sort of just the classic political corruption that is contained in this case, there is this national security concern that I think actually elevates it to, you know, a higher level of a case," Whitaker said.

Australian Defence Department caught up in ransomware attack
A communications platform used by military personnel and Defence Department public servants has been hit by a ransomware attack.

Defence says there is no evidence past and present staff's data were compromised

Defence bosses warned they expected the frequency, intensity and sophistication of cyber attacks to grow
Hackers have targeted the ForceNet service, which is run by an external ICT provider, but Defence has been told no data of current or former personnel appears to have been compromised.
In a message to all staff, the Defence secretary and Defence Chief said the matter was being taken "very seriously".
There's been a spate of cyber attacks in recent weeks, from telecommunication companies to health insurers.
Medibank last week confirmed a criminal entity behind the cyber attack on the company had access to the data of at least 4 million customers, some of which includes health claims.
A month earlier, Optus announced a cyber attack had exposed the data of almost 10 million Australians, with significant amounts of data stolen from 2.8 million people.
In their email to staff, the Defence bosses were adamant the hack of ForceNet was not an attack on the department's IT systems.
"We are taking this matter very seriously and working with the provider to determine the extent of the attack and if the data of current and former APS (Australian public service) staff and ADF personnel has been impacted," they wrote.
"If you had a ForceNet account in 2018, we urge you to be vigilant but not alarmed."
"Initial discussions with the service provider indicate there is no evidence that the data of current and former APS staff and ADF personnel has been compromised.
"We are nevertheless examining the contents of the 2018 ForceNet dataset and what personal information it contains."
The note to staff warned that Defence expected the frequency, intensity and sophistication of hacks to grow with time. It reminded staff they were not immune from attacks.

On Sunday, Kanye “Ye” West shared a disturbing photo of civil rights icon Emmett Till on his Instagram, along with a lengthy rant directed at American businessman Ari Emanuel stating, “You tried to destroy my life after all the money I’ve made for the ‘business’ people.”
Ari Emanuel the CEO of Endeavor, an entertainment and media agency that owns the UFC, wrote an opinion piece for the Financial Times on Wednesday in which he argued that Kanye’s mental illness does not excuse his ‘anti-Semitic and racist comments.’
“Some of West’s behavior has been dismissed over time, citing mental illness, given that he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder after being hospitalized in 2016,” Emanuel wrote.
“However, mental illness is not an excuse for racism, hatred or anti-Semitism… Millions of people affected by mental illness do not perpetuate hateful ideologies. Others brush his comments off as just words, but hateful words far too easily become hateful actions,” he added.
After West tweeted that he intended to go “death con 3” on Jewish people, Emanuel has called on any companies who partner with the Yeezy designer to sever connections with the rapper.
It can be recalled that Adidas announced it would stop its partnership with Kanye West, and Gap Inc. announced it would drop items he helped design from its stores. Balenciaga and Vogue also severed their ties with the rapper.
Following Emanuel’s op-ed, Kanye West responded on his Instagram Thursday stating that he lost $2 billion in one day due to cancel culture.
“Ari Emanuel, I lost 2 billion dollars in one day and I’m still alive,” West wrote. “This is love speech. I still love you. God still loves you. The money is not who I am. The people is who I am.”
Amid mounting backlash over the rapper’s anti-semitic rants, the California campus of Kanye West’s non-accredited private school informed parents on Wednesday that it would be closing immediately, which triggered his rant on Sunday towards Emanuel.
