I lost both of my hips to avascular necrosis. I do about the same as you.
My beagle just showed up in my yard almost two years ago. All starved and with a broken rib. He followed me inside the house and hasn't left since.
I have a theory that he was the people's that I bought the house from. The yard was snow covered and he walked on the sidewalk.
