NBA icon James has hit out at former teammate Kyrie Irving amid an anti-semitism feud
NBA icon LeBron James has expressed his dismay at the actions of former teammate Kyrie Irving amid an ongoing anti-semitism row which has led to the suspension of the Brooklyn Nets superstar.
Irving is currently serving a ban of at least five games after he posted a link on social media to a controversial documentary which promotes fringe theories related to the Holocaust and other anti-semitic tropes, leading to a swirl of controversy from fans and objections from sponsors such as Nike, who announced in recent days that they had called off an upcoming shoe release associated with Irving.
Irving has since apologized for his actions but not before James, with whom he played with for Cleveland Cavaliers between 2014 and 2017, issued a stinging rebuke of his former colleague.
“I believe that what Kyrie did caused some harm to a lot of people,” James said.
“He apologized. But he caused some harm and I think it’s unfortunate. But I don’t stand on the position to harm people when it comes to your voice or your platform or anything. So it doesn’t matter what color your skin is, how tall you are, what position you’re in.
“If you are promoting or soliciting or saying harmful things to any community that harms people, then I don’t respect it. I don’t condone it. I can tell you this, it’s simple. Me personally, I don’t condone any hate to any kind. To any race. To Jewish communities, to Black communities, to Asian communities. You guys know where I stand.
“I hope [Irving] understands what he did and the actions that he took are just harmful to a lot of people. I really didn’t get into it too much. But, I understand that when you’re hurting anybody, I understand that. That is just common sense.”
Meanwhile Irving’s team, the Brooklyn Nets, has issued a list of demands that Irving must adhere to before he is permitted to resume team activities.
It was reported that he must apologize publicly for the promoting the documentary, and that he must meet with NBA commissioner Adam Silver - who is Jewish, and members of New York's Jewish community.
He must also repair his relationship with Nets owner Joe Tsai, who was understood to have attempted to contact Irving without success.
Other reports have indicated that Irving has been told he must pay a $500,000 donation to anti-hate charities, as well as undergo a course to make him more knowledgeable about anti-semitism.
James, meanwhile, has also moved to distance himself from comments made by rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, and has cancelled the release of an interview due to be released on James’ media platform after West’s own anti-semitic comments drew widespread criticism recently.

"Italy Is A Fully Sovereign Country" – Italy's New Conservative Govt Refuses To Dock Migrants From German NGO Ships
Three NGO ships with more than 1,000 people on board are waiting to dock off the Italian coast, but Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi are firmly refusing German demands that the ships dock in Italian ports.
Rome’s foreign ministry confirmed on Thursday that it had previously sent a verbal note to Berlin asking it to accept the migrants on board the German-registered Humanity 1. The Italian ministry added that the German side had been asked for information on the people on board.
The diplomatic document, dated Oct. 23, was published on Wednesday by public television channel RAI3. In its response, the Berlin foreign ministry urged Rome to provide assistance as soon as possible to the people on board the NGO boat, including more than 100 minors.
“Rescuing people in mortal danger is the most important thing,” read a statement from German embassy urging Italy allow the boats to dock.
“If Germany believes that there is a humanitarian problem, it should take care of it, Italy cannot become the refuge of all immigrants,” said the Minister for Relations with Parliament Luca Ciriani while speaking on the “Agorà” show on the Rai3 television channel.
According to Piantedosi, European countries that flag their vessels should welcome those arriving via the NGOs that use those boats. However, he said the only way to solve the migration flow was to stop departures altogether.
Ciriani backed Piantedosi’s hard line on migration, saying, “We cannot simply be the terminal of choices that take place elsewhere. We are a serious country, Italy is a fully sovereign country.”
Ciriani also repeated Piantedosi’s position, saying flying German flags should indicate Germany’s responsibility for migrants on those ships.
“If it intends to act in international waters, then it must also take responsibility for the choices made by the ships flying its flag,” said Ciriani who added, “We cannot accept that Germany decides for us.”
As Remix News previously reported, there are numerous German NGO ships operating in the Mediterranean that rescue migrants but also serve as a draw for many migrants who believe they will be rescued if something goes wrong. The groups have also been accused of cooperating with migrant smugglers and arranging to meet up with smugglers on the open sea to transfer migrants. Many of these ships are supported with funds from German Protestant churches. However, as the German press has reported in the past, the vast majority of these migrants are not refugees, but instead economic migrants.
Italy’s stance may cause another rift within the EU. When Matteo Salvini refused to dock migrants while previously serving as interior minister, migrant numbers dramatically dropped in Italy. However, once he lost power, he was targeted by prosecutors with “kidnapping” charges for defending Italy’s borders and faced harsh prison sentences for his actions.

At least 19 people dead after Precision Air Flight PW494 crash-lands in Tanzania's Lake Victoria
At least 19 people are dead after a flight carrying 43 people made a crashlanding into Lake Victoria while attempting to reach a nearby airport in Tanzania.

Tanzania's Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa announced the updated death toll, up from the three given by local officials earlier in the day.
"All Tanzanians join you in mourning these 19 people … who have lost their lives," Mr Majaliwa told reporters in Bukoba.
Precision Air had earlier stated 26 of the 43 people on board the flight had been rescued and sent to hospital.
The two pilots who had survived the crash and managed to speak to local officials from the cockpit may have since died, according to Mr Majaliwa, the BBC reported, explaining the discrepancy in numbers of dead.
Flight PW494, which departed from the commercial capital Dar es Salaam, crash-landed into the lake as it was approaching the lakeside city of Bukoba, according to Precision Air.
The cause was not immediately clear, but the state broadcaster said the incident took place amid storms and heavy rains.
Airline officials did not answer calls seeking further details, and the discrepancy in the figures could not immediately be reconciled.
A witness told the Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC) he saw the plane flying unsteadily as it approached the airport in poor visibility conditions, saying it took a turn for the airport but missed and went into the lake.

DC Judge Permits CIA Agent to Withdraw Guilty Plea of Sexual Abuse Charges
A former CIA agent, who previously pleaded guilty in 2021 to sexually abusing 24 women, has been allowed by a DC judge to withdraw his guilty plea.
Per the Department of Justice, Brian Jeffery Raymond, a former CIA agent who was most recently employed at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City, pleaded guilty to “engaging in sexual intercourse with two women when both were incapable of appraising the nature of the conduct or consenting to it.
According to reports, he would also admit to taking photographs of over 24 unconscious women while they were naked and would allegedly sexually assault several of them while they were sleeping.
The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that despite pleading guilty, 10 months after making his plea Raymond filed a new motion to withdraw his pleas due to his case being “tainted by ineffective assistance of counsel.”
U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly granted Raymond’s motion on the grounds of his request was made before sentencing.
