Video too large to post

Reporter:

You know election officials have raised fears of potential threats and violence over false claims of election fraud''' in Tuesdays midterms, but the tensions in this hotly contested NY state governors race here, apparently spilled over into a fight, and an aleged assault on a republican protester yesterday. Incumbent democratic Governor Kathy Hochul was holding a rally with other democratic officials in Manhattan, when counter-protesters for republican challenger Congressman Lee Zeldin showed up with their signs. They were chanting against the governor, that's when witnesses say a Hochul supporter, you can see some punches apparently be thrown, and choking, right there in the video. A Hochul supporter allegedly grabbing the sign that was held by that Zeldin supporter, her name is Angelica Torres. Emotions flared as Ms. Torres says she and two other Hochul supporters grabbed her, one allegedly, seeing as you saw there, hitting her and grabbing her around the neck. She sought medical attention and says she did report what happened to police. Ms. Torres told me this morning, that she is still shaken up by all this, saying in part "I was carrying a sign that said, 'vote them out' and under their campaign portraits. Then unexpectedly I was attacked by a woman who grabbed my sign. While I was trying to retrieve my sign, another man much larger than me, started to choke me… I was very shocked and upset that I couldn't express my opinions openly without violence. Crime and violence is a big issue in our city…" Ms Torres provided us with a police complaint over this incident to Fox News, we have asked the NY City Police Dept. for details on it. But so far, have not heard back. NY City Councilwoman Crystal Hudson, a democrat, also reportedly was seen tussling with Ms. Torres, Ms Torres told me that, that councilwoman also grabbed her, we have asked the councilwoman's office for comment and have not yet heard back. We do not know the identity of the people who did allegedly grab her, or if that man in the video is indeed a Hochul supporter and it's important to note that as of now, no motive has been confirmed by authorities, but Ms. Torres did tell me, that there is not place, in any campaign, for politically motivated violence and that while people may disagree on the issues, the debate, should always remain peaceful.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the brutal home invasion attack on her husband last month will affect her decision on whether to remain in the Democratic leadership in Congress.

But Pelosi, D-Calif., who police say was the actual intended target of the man charged in the attack, did not reveal in a new CNN interview whether that means she will leave her leadership post or stay in it.

Pelosi, 82, has been the top House Democrat for two decades.

Pelosi’s comment came as her party is battling to remain in control of both chambers of Congress in Tuesday’s midterm elections. Republicans are favored to win control of the House.

Her 82-year-old husband, Paul Pelosi, had his skull fractured early Oct. 28 by an assailant wielding a hammer, after the other man broke into the Pelosi home in San Francisco, police have said.

David DePape, 42, has been charged with attempted murder and other state crimes in the attack.

Federal prosecutors have charged DePape with the federal crimes of attempted kidnapping of a federal official — Nancy Pelosi — and assaulting an immediate family member of a United States official with the intent to retaliate against the official.

Authorities have said DePape was prepared to kidnap and detain Nancy Pelosi and break her kneecaps when he went to her residence. The speaker was in Washington, D.C., at the time of the break-in.

During her interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Pelosi said her decision on whether to stay in leadership “will be affected about what happened the last week or two.”

Cooper then asked, “Will your decision be impacted by the attack in any way?”

“Yes,” Pelosi replied.
