REVEALED: Rahm Emanuel Used A Private Email

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel used a private email to communicate with Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s campaign chair John Podesta, leaked emails reveal.

Emanuel, a former House lawmaker who served early on in the Obama administration, sent an email to Podesta asking him to consider Brian DeSplinter for a position with Clinton’s campaign. Emnauel sent the email from the address “mayor_re@rahmemail.com.”

The email address is still active, according to Mailtester.com, and is run through Google’s Gmail service. This is unlike Clinton who used a private email server based out of her Chappaqua, New York home.

Rahm uses Google services for email.

As the battles played out in court, the Tribune reported in November that Emanuel used two personal email accounts, including a custom domain called “rahmemail.com,” to communicate with government leaders and other politicians. The Emanuel email accounts emerged as part of the thousands of emails that had been hacked from Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman John Podesta and made public during the presidential campaign by WikiLeaks.

Ironically, the new emails released by Emanuel show that he frequently used the rahmemail.com domain to communicate with top Tribune editors as well as nationally renowned journalists from CNN, The New York Times and the Washington Post. An array of influential Chicagoans also used the mayor's personal accounts to converse with him.

Whose your daddy?': Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel's private emails with Amazon are exposed in new report

The Amazon executive Jay Carney emailed Mayor Rahm Emanuel of Chicago on the day Amazon announced its shortlist of 20 candidates for the site of its second headquarters.

"As I think I mentioned before, everyone here was impressed with the proposal your team put together," Carney said.

Emanuel ended the exchange with an apparent joke: "Whose (sic) your daddy? Talk soon. Hope family is good."

The email exchange reveals that Emanuel has a direct line of communication with Amazon, as Chicago remains in the running for the site of the company's second headquarters.

Rahm’s private emails: From clout highway to one-way street for everyday beefs

Once known as a clout highway, Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s private emails have turned into a largely one-way street, where everyday Chicagoans — and the occasional mayoral pal — pitch their beefs to the city’s chief executive.

Private emails written to and from Emanuel this past October, November and December — released to the Chicago Sun-Times in response to a Freedom of Information Act request — show that political heavy-hitters and campaign contributors are no longer pitching their ideas to Emanuel on the mayor’s private email accounts, to avoid attracting attention from Chicago’s reinvigorated Board of Ethics.

That’s even though the board has backed off its threat to heavily fine those who have lobbied the mayor through his private emails but failed to register as lobbyists.

Instead, the mayor’s private emails have become a gripe channel with most of the email traffic in one direction — the mayor’s.
