I can only speculate but my theory on why Trump endorsed the vaccine is due to Trump Derangement Syndrome / Oppositional Defiance Syndrome. Trump had faith Republicans knew not to take the vaccine because Trump has already made comments on Twitter many years ago to be careful of too many vaccines.
Trump made an Oath to protect ALL Americans to the best of his ability; not just the top-notch. So he had to deploy reverse psychology in the hopes that many of the Democrats (a lot of our younglings) would do the opposite of what Trump said to do. It's war, casualty mitigation is complicated and gut-wrenching but has to be done. Operation Warpseed was a trap to entangle the vaccine manufacturers in their own lies, which also had to be done this way.
