Senator Hawley to Director Wray, Homeland Security Committee Hearing: Numerous whistleblowers, field agents, have alleged that DC, your headquarters, has pulled them off working on child sex abuse cases, working on human trafficking cases, to work on January 6th matters, for this reason: to give the appearance, they say, that there are hundreds of new domestic terrorism cases in the country, when in fact there are not…stats are being padded, by political directive, in your office.

Senator Hawley to Mayorkas, Homeland Security Committee Hearing: A federal judge has just found, as a finding of fact, that your office is, and I am going to quote now, "supervising the nerve center of federally-directed censorship."…we have example after example of this administration, coordinated apparently by your agency, pressuring, coercing, social media companies to engage in censorship. Is that constitutional?

Mayorkas: It is unequivocally false.

Hawley: It's what the emails show.

Mayorkas: It is unequivocally false.

Hawley: You are not pressuring the big tech companies to take down accounts, you are not meeting with them to ask them to censor on your behalf?

Mayorkas: That is correct, we are not…we meet with the tech companies to address the homeland security mission.

Hawley: You're saying that no one in your office has ever met with, coordinated, or otherwise engaged in, any contact with a social medial company, in which you spoke to them about vaccine mandates, about COVID mask mandates, about the withdrawal from Afghanistan, about the current US involvement in Ukraine?

Mayorkas: I don't know what you are referring to, senator…you've actually cited emails outside of our department.

Hawley: I cited a federal judge who says your department is engaged in, supervising, the nerve center of federally-directed censorship…you are leveraging private companies to carry out censorship or your behalf. It's dystopian, and worse than that, it's unconstitutional.

Mayorkas: It's also false.

PUERTO RICO: "Three suspects have been arrested in the murder of a federal border agent and assaults against two other agents who were shot early Thursday off the coast of the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico. Three male Puerto Rican residents, including two confirmed U.S. citizens, were taken into FBI custody mid-Thursday, just hours after three federal agents from U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Air and Marine Operations were shot while attempting to interdict two boats. A fourth suspect was fatally shot by U.S. agents. The shootout happened 14 miles off the coast of northwestern Puerto Rico. Three federal agents were shot, according to a federal officer and a statement from CBP. The agents were from the CBP's Air and Marine Operations arm. AMO agents work the air and sea to patrol for human and drug smugglers. One law enforcement source there said the agents interdicted the smugglers as they had been transferring drugs on board to another vessel."
