The ‘Blockchain Eight’ wrote a bipartisan letter in March attempting to chill the SEC’s information requests to crypto firms. FTX was one of those firms.

The Blockchain Eight is 4 Democrats, 4 Republicans.
This is consistent with FTX's bipartisan campaign contribution philosophy: contrary to "Baby Soros" myth, the company & its employees gave 50% to Republicans, 50% to Democrats.
