She reminds us of the ‘colonial money’ that France has ‘printed’ – the CFA, which she holds up – the franc (not euro) that France orders its (former) colonies to use. This looks to be a complicated historical topic, but France has done almost as much colonisation of African nations as the British did. Thus the currency these African nations could use and ITS ARBITRARY VALUE, set very low, determined their poverty. As Meloni points out in the video, Burkina Faso for example is a wealthy country with a lot of gold. In fact, Africa is a vast continent of valuable natural resources. So the colonial masters set up their own HIGHLY DEVALUED currency. If we check the value of the CFA today, it is this (there are 2 types of CFA francs depending on the African country):
