Split occurs over different calendars, ways of calculating festival date
Centuries of dispute between Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches on how to calculate the date of Easter may come to an end if Pope Francis‘ latest appeal is implemented.
Meeting Nov. 19 with Mar Awa III, the head of the Assyrian Church of the East, Francis called for an end to disagreements in how Catholics and Eastern churches determine the date of Easter each spring.
“Let us have the courage to put an end to this division that at times makes us laugh: ‘When does your Christ rise again?,’” Francis told Mar Awa in remarks following their meeting at the Vatican. “I’m willing, yet not [only] me, the Catholic Church is willing to follow what Saint Paul VI said. Agree and we will go where you say,” the pontiff added.
The two bodies fell out over the calculation of Easter after the introduction of the Gregorian Calendar by Pope Gregory XII in 1582. Eastern Orthodox churches still use the Julian Calendar, proposed by Julius Caesar in 46 A.D. The two calendars are 13 days apart, with the Julian trailing the Gregorian.
There is also a question of how the date for Easter should be calculated. The Council of Nicea in 325 A.D. said Easter should be celebrated on the Sunday following the first full moon that falls on or after the spring equinox. In practice, this means Easter can fall between March 22 and April 25.
Orthodox Churches have a different requirement: Easter, or Pascha, must take place following the Jewish observance of Passover.
In 2025, Francis noted in his remarks, the two branches of Christianity will celebrate Easter on the same Sunday.
He said, “2025 is an important year: we will celebrate the anniversary of the first Ecumenical Council (of Nicea), yet it is also important because we will celebrate Easter on the same date.”
Francis told Mar Awa he thanked the Assyrian Christian leader “for having voiced the desire to find a common date for Christians to join in celebrating Easter.”

Unredacted Documents Reveal Fauci Tried to Shift the Narrative On the Covid-19 Lab Leak Theory
Early on in the Covid-19 pandemic, Dr. Anthony Fauci and his Democrat constitutes attempted damage control when news started to break that the virus originated from a Wuhan lab leak.
Guardian reporter Jimmy Tobias obtained unredacted emails through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) that details a teleconference between Fauci and several virologists discussing the coronavirus and its possible origins on February 1, 2020.
Although Fauci and health officials downplayed the fact that the virus came from a lab leak, the emails indicate that at the time they were very concerned that that possibility was true.
In one thread of emails, scientist Jeremy Farrar of the Wellcome Trust, warned Fauci of the “wild west,” referring to either the landscape of infectious disease research in China or the WIV specifically.
Infectious disease researcher Kristian Andersen put the idea of alerting the FBI and MI5 regarding the furin cleavage site on the spike protein of COVID-19, however, Fauci ignored her concern and decided not to take her advice.
The majority of scientists believe that furin cleavage sites, such as those in COVID-19, are not naturally occurring, which proves that the theory that the virus originated in a laboratory is true.
The former director of the National Institutes of Health, Francis Collins, wrote on February 4: "I'd be interested in the proposal of accidental lab passage in animals (which ones?).”
Collin's emails indicated that he didn’t believe such a reckless experiment could be done in Wuhan, saying “surely that wouldn't be done in a BSL-2 lab (a low biosafety level laboratory)?”
Other scientists in the email threads responded suggesting that anything can happen when it comes to China.

More vaccinated people died from COVID than unvaccinated people in August
People who were vaccinated against COVID-19 died in larger numbers than those who were unvaccinated against the virus for the first time since the pandemic’s onset in the U.S., according to a new report.
An analysis by the Kaiser Family Foundation found that 58% of the COVID-19 deaths in August were from people who had completed at least their primary series of vaccines, according to KFF.
The news comes nearly 15 months after President Biden declared COVID-19 to be a “pandemic of the unvaccinated.” He announced a de facto vaccine mandate in that same speech by attempting to rewrite OSHA regulations that applied to large companies.
The Supreme Court ultimately struck down the Biden administration’s attempted mandate, however, they kept it in place for people who work in medical fields.
“We can no longer say this is a pandemic of the unvaccinated,” Cynthia Cox, vice president at the Kaiser Family Foundation, told The Washington Post.
Ms. Cox said the shift makes sense since most people have had their primary series of COVID vaccinations by now. About 68% of Americans have gotten the jab.
She also said that the elderly who are most at risk of the virus are also the most likely to be vaccinated against the virus, and that the vaccines’ efficacy wanes over time while new variants pop up.
Previous analysis showed the share of vaccinated people dying from the virus has gone up in the past year or so.
Vaccinated people made up 23% of COVID deaths in September 2021, and by February of this year that number had jumped up to 42%.
Still, KFF noted that unvaccinated people who were older than 6 months died at six times the rate than people who had their first two doses of the vaccine.
Boosters have also proven effective at preventing deadly bouts with the disease, according to the analysis.

Russia blasts US over LGBTQ law 'interference'
Diplomats have condemned American attacks on a bill banning "propaganda" related to "non traditional lifestyles"
By criticizing Russian legislation banning LGBTQ, pedophilia, and sex-change propaganda, US officials are interfering in the nation’s internal affairs, Moscow’s embassy in Washington said on Friday. It also urged the US to respect the views of the Russian people.
In a statement, the embassy said it had noted “the statements of numerous of US officials” criticizing the bill, which was approved by Russia’s parliament on Thursday.
“We consider such statements as gross interference in our internal affairs,” the diplomatic mission said, adding that “Russia consistently stands for the protection of traditional family values” and rejects “attempts by Western states, led by the United States, to impose pseudo-liberal and perverted ideas about human rights on other countries.”
The embassy asked the US to respect the decision of Russian citizens “to adhere to moral guidelines” that have been embraced by many generations and are “the basis of Russian civic identity.”
On Thursday, the Russian State Duma passed the third and final reading of a bill completely banning LGBTQ propaganda. The bill ‘on the protection of traditional values’, which was supported by all 397 MPs, criminalizes the promotion of “non-traditional sexual relations” in advertising, books, movies, and media.
The bill envisages hefty fines for violators, with individuals facing a penalty of 400,000 rubles ($6,600), and up to 5 million rubles (around $83,000) for corporate entities, for LGBTQ propaganda. The proposed fines for the promotion of pedophilia are double these amounts, while foreign actors who fail to comply with the legislation would face expulsion from Russia.
The bill has not yet entered into force but is expected to be signed by President Vladimir Putin.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called the legislation “another serious blow to freedom of expression and the human rights of LGBTQI persons in Russia.”
Prior to the vote in the State Duma, Blinken urged Russian lawmakers to withdraw the bill and “respect the human rights and dignity of all.” State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin urged MPs to respond to him by expressing their opinion in the vote.

Greta Thunberg sues Sweden
The eco-activist has joined a class action lawsuit against the state over its allegedly flawed climate policies
A group of more than 600 Swedish young people, including environmental activist Greta Thunberg, has sued the nation’s government for its insufficient efforts in tackling the climate crisis.
On Friday, a demonstration called by the youth organization Aurora marched through the Swedish capital to lodge the class-action suit with the Stockholm District Court. The group wants the judiciary to rule that Sweden has violated its citizens’ human rights by pursuing inadequate climate policies.
“We are 636 young people in Aurora who are suing the Swedish state for insufficient climate action,” Thunberg wrote on Twitter on Thursday, adding that “when the state carries out climate policy that threatens our human rights, it breaks the law.”
Later, she also noted that Black Friday, which marks the start of the Christmas shopping season but is also a symbol of overconsumption, “is the perfect day to sue the state” over the climate. “So that’s what we did. See you in court!” the activist added.
Prior to the lawsuit, Aurora wrote an open letter addressed to several high-ranking Swedish officials, including Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Climate Minister Romina Pourmokhtari, demanding, among other things, that Sweden “takes its fair share” in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in order to limit the increase in the global average temperature to 1.5 degrees C (2.7 F) as compared to pre-industrial levels.
According to a climate law adopted by Sweden in 2017, the nation’s authorities have a duty to do their best to curb emissions of greenhouse gases to reach net-zero by 2045.
However, the new Swedish government formed in October scrapped the Environment Ministry in a widely criticized move, while relegating its duties to the Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation. Its new budget has also been slammed for measures that may increase emissions from the transport sector.
In 2019, the Netherlands’ Supreme Court upheld a ruling that ordered the nation’s government to do much more to cut carbon emissions, insisting that it is obligated to protect its citizens’ human rights in the face of climate change.

CEO of Tesla Elon Musk is concerned about a recent tweet that is encouraging arson at Tesla dealerships all across the United States.
The report stemmed from journalist Andy Ngo who shared a screenshot on his Twitter account from a now-suspended user who was calling for members of Antifa to “protest” outside of Tesla dealerships.
The tweet from the now-deleted Antifa-affiliated account read “Tonight in Portland! Every city, every town! Show up at your local Tesla dealerships in protest of Elon Musk!”.
In that same tweet was a picture of a Tesla on Fire, which has Tesla dealerships across the country on high alert.
After looking at the flyer it’s clear that Antifa doesn’t want to “protest” at all but rather start a riot and terror attacks.
Journalist Andy Ngo, who has covered Antifa exclusively for the last several years, reported shortly after the flyer made rounds on the internet, a man with a crowbar in Lynnwood, Washington lit a fire near propane tanks outside of a Tesla building.
On the bright side, many of the users who were inciting violence at Tesla Dealerships have been suspended from Twitter which shows Twitter has finally turned away from their old policies which allowed for BLM and ANTIFA operatives to have immunity from suspension.

KJP's Advertising of COVID-19 Vaccine Is Truly Bizarre
The Biden administration had had quite the penchant of not just promoting the latest COVID-19 booster shots, but of doing so through fear-mongering and partisan talking points. The administration even threatened people's jobs and livelihoods if they didn't get the vaccine. Earlier this week, Dr. Anthony Fauci was present at Tuesday's White House press briefing where he also promoted the vaccine, which as Spencer highlighted at the time. erupted in chaos. That's not the most recent or even necessarily memorable way that the White House has harangued people into getting vaccinated.
On Friday morning, as part of a Black Friday tweet which promoted "self-care" and "tak[ing] care of yourself this holiday season, White House Press Secretary Kaine Jean-Pierre tweeted from the official Press Secretary account for people to get their "updated COVID and flu vaccines."
Joe Biden himself received the latest COVID vaccine late last month, his fifth, during which he too engaged in that fear-mongering, including when it comes to those who choose not to get the vaccine or the latest boosters.
"Here’s the bottom line: Virtually every COVID death in America is preventable–virtually every one," Biden claimed in his remarks. "Almost everyone who will die from COVID this year will not be up to date on their shots or they will not have taken Paxlovid when they got sick."
And, during his time at the podium, on Tuesday, Dr. Fauci had been asked what his most difficult moment of the pandemic was. His response entailed going after the unvaccinated.
"So, when I see people in this country, because of the divisiveness in our country, not getting vaccinated for reasons that have nothing to do with public health but have to do because of divisiveness and ideological differences, as a physician, it pains me because I don’t want to see anybody get infected, I don’t want to see anybody hospitalized, and I don’t want to see anybody die from COVID," he offered.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) considers people up to date on their COVID vaccines "if you have completed a COVID-19 vaccine primary series and received the most recent booster dose recommended for you by CDC."
A report from NBC News in late September, shortly after the release of bivalent boosters, showed that an estimated 3.6 percent of the eligible population had received those shots.
According to the CDC, as of November 17, just 13.1 percent of the population over 18 years old has received the bivalent booster. Even among those 65 and older, that number is at 29.6 percent.
Despite such claims and even demonization about the unvaccinated from this administration, that narrative isn't quite accurate. As Katie highlighted on Wednesday, data from the Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) showed that a majority of people who died in August from COVID were fully vaccinated.
The Washington Post's McKenzie Beard also picked up on such data, with her headline currently declaring "Covid is no longer mainly a pandemic of the unvaccinated. Here’s why." As archived versions of the webpage show, the original title was "Vaccinated people now make up a majority of covid deaths."
Other headlines aren't very helpful to the White House's narrative. They include:

What attention the press secretary's tweet got with replies and quoted retweets were, for the most part, people taking issue with what they saw as such a ridiculous suggestion. Many also pointed to how it came off as if Jean-Pierre was shilling for pharmaceutical companies.

Meta discovers, confirms US-led military propaganda campaign
Pushing anti-Iran and anti-Russian narratives, the US-led media propaganda campaign has been confirmed by Meta.
Meta has acknowledged that it has discovered numerous clusters of fake accounts and pages that were initially believed to be linked to individuals "associated with the US military," according to the company's latest adversarial threat report.
The report, published last week, writes “Although the people behind this operation attempted to conceal their identities and coordination, our investigation found links to individuals associated with the US military."
In total, Meta removed 39 Facebook and 26 Instagram accounts, in addition to 16 pages and 2 groups. The influence campaign was discovered earlier this week. The groups and accounts were removed for violating Facebook's policies regarding "coordinated inauthentic behavior."
The company announced that the large-scale operation stretched beyond just a few dozen accounts, and rather included even more internet platforms, including Twitter, YouTube, and Telegram. Even major Russian social media platforms, such as VKontakte and Odnoklassniki, were included in the operation.
The “majority of this operation’s posts had little to no engagement from authentic communities.”
The campaigns were largely aimed at countries such as Iran or Central Asia, where there is resistance to US foreign policy.
An investigation by The Washington Post revealed that the Pentagon was forced to launch a “sweeping audit of how it conducts clandestine information warfare" after Meta's findings.
Researchers at Graphika and the Standford Internet Observatory in August published a report about online networks that pushes "pro-Western", anti-Russian narratives.
In September, a report by The Washington Post revealed that in 2020, Facebook and Twitter employees contacted the Pentagon to voice concerns regarding fake accounts they believed had ties with the US military.
Detecting accounts that Facebook and Twitter suspected to be part of the US military conducting psyops, the two social media giants took down about 150 fake profiles and media sites. Psy-ops are a war tactic used frequently by the US, which it has been accusing Russia of doing since 2020.
At the time, the Biden administration repeatedly requested that the Pentagon provide more information regarding its psyop policies - or, 'online influence campaigns.'
In 2019, the US Congress gave the green light when it passed Section 1631, which allowed the military to conduct psyops as long as it does not infringe on the CIA's covert authority, knowing that the law exempts such activities from the oversight system.

Dr. Michael Banner defended a scholar who compared a wound on Christ’s body to a vagina, according to the outlet
The dean of Trinity College in Cambridge has called speculation that Jesus Christ might have been transgender “legitimate,” The Telegraph reported on Saturday. Dr. Michael Banner made the statement in defense of a junior research fellow who claimed that Jesus' body incorporates both masculine and feminine features.
During last Sunday’s evensong service in the college chapel, Cambridge research student Joshua Heath displayed Renaissance and Medieval paintings of Jesus’ crucifixion while asserting that one of the wounds on his body “takes on a decidedly vaginal appearance,” according to the newspaper.
To prove his point, Heath used the 14th-century painting ‘Pieta with the Holy Trinity’ by Jean Malouel, which is a part of the Louvre’s collection. The painting depicts Jesus with a side wound, from which blood is streaming down to the groin.
“In Christ's simultaneously masculine and feminine body in these works, if the body of Christ [is] as these works suggest the body of all bodies, then his body is also the trans body,” Heath said, as quoted by the outlet.
The congregation was apparently shocked, with one of its members telling The Telegraph that he “left the service in tears.” He said he was “contemptuous of the idea that by cutting a hole in a man, through which he can be penetrated, he can become a woman,” describing the opinion as a “heresy for our age.”
Banner stated in comments seen by The Telegraph that he thinks the “speculation was legitimate, whether or not you or I or anyone else disagrees with the interpretation, says something else about that artistic tradition, or resists its application to contemporary questions around transsexualism.”
At the same time, the dean insisted that while the opinion was the speaker’s own, he “would not issue an invitation to someone who I thought would deliberately seek to shock or offend a congregation” or speak against Christianity.
Last week, students held protests against the presence at a Cambridge Union debate of Professor Kathleen Stock, who was forced to resign from her post at Sussex University in 2021 after she said humans cannot change sex. The beleaguered scholar was on campus to express her views on the topic of free speech, not on transgender rights.
