Whole Foods Angers Maine Gov. Janet Mills

November 29, 2022

11:15 AM ET

Whole Foods angered elected officials by announcing its plans to cease buying Maine lobsters after climate change groups downgraded the North Atlantic fishing area’s sustainability rating.

Democratic Maine Gov. Janet Mills and its Congressional delegation sent a note to Whole Foods expressing their “disappointment” in the grocery store giant’s decision to stop buying Maine lobsters, according to the official letter Nov. 22. Whole Foods made the decision after the organizations (Marine Stewardship Council and Seafood Watch) it uses to determine its sustainability ratings downgraded Maine lobster to “the worst rating,” reported The New York Times.

“We are disappointed by Whole Foods’ decision and deeply frustrated that the Marine Stewardship Council’s suspension of the lobster industry’s certificate of sustainability continues to harm the livelihoods of hardworking men and women up and down Maine’s coast,” the Maine officials stated.

The statement cited the “150-year history of sustainability” as proof that Maine fishermen have “consistently demonstrated their commitment to protecting right whales” and denounced the accusations that right whale deaths can be attributed to Maine fishery.

“Despite this, the Marine Stewardship Council, with retailers following suit, wrongly and blindly decided to follow the recommendations of misguided environmental groups rather than science,” the letter continued. “We strongly urge the Marine Stewardship Council and retailers to reconsider their potentially devastating decisions.”

The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) suspended its sustainability certificate for Maine lobster on Nov. 16, claiming to have concerns that fishermen’s nets and other gear were entangling North Atlantic right whales, endangering the population. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) cited that boats and fishing gear account for the leading causes of North Atlantic right whale deaths, reported The New York Times. According to the most recent audit of the Maine lobster fishery certification, MSC found no evidence that the North Atlantic lobster fishery was responsible for “entanglements or interactions with right whales.”

McConnell Takes Jab At Trump, Says It’s ‘Highly Unlikely’ He’ll Be Elected Again

(I wonder if they know we hate the eGOP because of the constant virtue signaling and betraying conservative Americans and our solid leader PDJT? If not they soon will! I also wonder if Cocaine Mitch moniker really meant he has his own cocaine cartel?)

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell took a jab at former President Donald Trump on Tuesday, saying it would be unlikely that he would “ever be elected” again.

Trump has come under scrutiny after white nationalist Nick Fuentes and Kanye West, formally known as ‘Ye,’ joined the 45th president for a dinner at Mar-a-Lago. Trump has denied having prior knowledge that Fuentes would be joining and claimed he didn’t know who Fuentes was.

“There is no room in the Republican Party for anti-Semitism or white supremacy. And anyone meeting with people advocating that point of view, in my judgement, are highly unlikely to ever be elected president of the United States,” McConnell said.

Several other prominent Republicans have spoken out about the dinner, including former Vice President Mike Pence, who said Trump “was wrong to give a white nationalist, an antisemite and a Holocaust denier a seat at the table.”

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie tweeted Saturday, “this is just awful, unacceptable conduct from anyone, but most particularly from a former President and current candidate.”

Arkansas Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson said Sunday on CNN that he hopes “we won’t have to be responding to what former President Donald Trump has said or done.”

Republican AGs Attempt To Prevent Historically Environmentalist Firm From Buying Utilities

A group of 13 Republican attorneys general has urged the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to step in and block large asset manager Vanguard from buying shares in publicly traded electricity providers due to the firm’s history of “environmental activism.”

Republican Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes and 12 other Republican attorneys general requested that the commission hold a hearing to determine whether Vanguard should be allowed to purchase significant portions of public utility shares, according to legal documents filed Monday. Although Vanguard previously pledged to not exercise control over the companies or affect electricity prices, the attorneys general claimed that the firm may have broken such promises as it has used its financial influence to “manipulate the activities of the utility companies in its portfolio.”

“Consumers across our country are already feeling the sting of skyrocketing electricity bills, and Vanguard’s request to extend its authorization, coupled with its commitment to imposing net-zero requirements on publicly traded utilities, would only increase these costs,” Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron said in a statement provided to the Daily Caller News Foundation.

In May, Vanguard pressured Berkshire Hathaway Energy, which owns the Utah public utility PacifiCorp, to publish climate disclosures, according to a Vanguard shareholder proposal. The motion claims that consumers would suffer from less dependable and more expensive electricity should Vanguard’s alleged climate agenda force PacifiCorp to shut down its coal or natural gas-producing facilities early.

“Vanguard’s own public commitments and other statements have at the very least created the appearance that Vanguard has breached its promises to the Commission by engaging in environmental activism and using its financial influence to manipulate the activities of the utility companies in its portfolio,” the filing reads.

Consumers’ Research, a conservative nonprofit, also filed a motion to oppose Vanguard’s acquisition of public utility companies and argued that Vanguard along with other asset managers like BlackRock, could drive up electricity costs due to the company’s stance on climate change. The nonprofit noted that Vanguard votes on shareholder proposals to push companies to comply with its climate targets which could raise energy prices.

“We took this action on behalf of American energy consumers because time and time again we see massive wall street firms pretending to ‘passively’ manage their shares, but instead they use those assets to bully utility companies into adopting radical left-wing policies that drive up electric bills and risk the stability of our power grid,” Consumers’ Research Executive Director Will Hild said in a statement provided to the DCNF.

Vanguard has embraced environmental, social and corporate (ESG) investing to help its clients support “socially responsible” businesses and make money at the same time, according to its website. ESG funds performed 9% worse than more traditional investment portfolios from June 2021 to June 2022, The Financial Times reported in July.

“FERC’s job is to defend utilities from exactly this type of reckless interference … they should act to protect these utilities and American consumers from fat cat wall street wreckers who blithely endanger our electricity supply, Hild said.

Biden Boasts About ‘Largest Ever Release’ From Strategic Petroleum Reserve

HAROLD HUTCHISON

REPORTER

November 29, 2022

6:54 PM ET

(The should be inmates are running the insane asylum)

President Joe Biden boasted during a Tuesday speech about ordering releases from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to address inflated gas prices.

“Across the country, the common price at the pump is $2.99 a gallon. It’s much higher here. And the prices continue to go down. This isn’t accidental,” Biden said during a speech in Bay City, Michigan. “We’ve been on this for months. Remember, I got criticized in the face of Putin using energy as a weapon. It took some decisive action. I ordered the largest ever release from the petroleum reserve, 180 million barrels of oil. And I rallied our international partners to come up with their fair share as well. That helped put pressure, downward pressure on price, because we’re producing more gasoline that helps stabilize crude oil markets and reduce prices at the pump.”

Biden authorized the sale of up to 180 million barrels of oil from the reserves in March, following Russia’s Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine. Biden and the White House have often called increased gas prices the “Putin price hike,” while also blaming oil companies for high energy prices, but some experts have said Biden’s hostility to fossil fuel production has fueled higher gas prices.

The Biden administration released 10 million barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in October, putting it at its lowest level since the 1980s, according to Forbes.

The average price of gas soared to as high as $5.016 a gallon on June 14, according to AAA, while the average price for a gallon of diesel remains above $5.

STEVE PAVLICK: John Podesta Is Back In The White House. Here’s Why You Should Worry

STEVE PAVLICK

PARTNER & HEAD OF POLICY AT RENAISSANCE MACRO AND A FORMER TREASURY OFFICIAL.

November 29, 2022

2:24 PM ET

JOHN PODESTA, A FAMED POLITICAL OPERATIVE WHO CUT HIS TEETH IN THREE DEMOCRAT ADMINISTRATIONS, IS BACK IN THE WHITE HOUSE. THIS TIME, PODESTA SITS IN A KEY TRANSACTIONAL POSITION WHERE HE WILL SPEARHEAD PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN’S CLIMATE INITIATIVES, WHICH SHOULD CONCERN ALL AMERICANS.

On Sept. 2nd, the White House announcedthat John Podesta would serve as senior adviser for Clean Energy Innovation and Implementation, where he will oversee the implementation of the $370B in green energy funds included in the partisan reconciliation package that Democrats passed in August.

Podesta will serve as chair of the president’s National Climate Task Force in support of this effort where he will be tasked with distributing the funds. The timing of Podesta’s hiring also comes as Biden is considering a 2024 presidential run.

The Economist noted the recent shift of the U.S. federal government playing a more significant role in an industrial policy that closely resembles that of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

The bipartisan infrastructure bill included $20B in clean-energy incentives and $8B towards creating electric vehicle charging stations. The CHIPS bill had $52B towards chips production and $170B towards research.

Taken all together, it adds to about $100B in annual spending over the next five years. Much of the scientific funding would need to be approved by Congress next year, which gives Republicans some leverage.

Podesta would have responsibility for structuring the law’s grant programs, clarifying language for tax credits, and touting its economic potential to create jobs, Politico reported. Up to this point, he will have now played a role in three of the last Democratic administrations.

He founded the Podesta Group, a lobbying firm, along with his brother Tony in 1988. Chinese technology firm Huawei has retained Podesta’s brother Tony as a lobbyist, Politico reported.

The White House has not instituted any special recusals, prohibitions, or other barriers for Podesta, even though he had backed several climate lobbying efforts before joining the administration, RealClearPolitics reported. The outlet calls attention to Podesta’s long relationship with Hansjörg Wyss, a Swiss billionaire as something that could raise red flags.

Joy Behar Apologizes On-Air For Calling Religious Org Associated With Amy Coney Barrett A ‘Hate Group’

Nicole SilverioNovember 29, 2022 12:10 PM ET

“The View” co-host Joy Behar apologized on-air Tuesday for calling People of Praise, the religious organization associated with Supreme Court Associate Justice Amy Coney Barrett, a “hate group” in the previous panel.

Behar referred to People of Praise, a Christian organization that has been linked to Barrett, as a “hate group” during Monday’s panel when discussing calls from the public for the justice to recuse herself from a case due to her Catholic faith.

“I have to clarify something I said yesterday, I want to correct something I said on-air when I stated that People of Praise had been deemed a hate group,” Behar said. “I just got them mixed up with another group, it was inaccurate. So I don’t think that’s right, I have to say, you know, sorry about that. Anyway, I conflated them.” Kek, liar

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg said it is easy to make these types of mistakes, pointing out that she often mixes up Behar with co-host Sara Haines.

Behar falsely said Monday that the Southern Poverty Law Center has publicly deemed People of Praise a “hate group.” She further criticized the group’s leader for allegedly being skeptical of the separation between church and state, and for allegedly opposing premarital sex.

“She [Barrett] is a religious person, she belongs to this People of Praise group, which the Southern Poverty Law Center has labeled them a hate group. And their founder has questioned the so-called ‘separation of church and state,’ they believe that sex should occur only within marriage, and of course between a man and a woman. They’ve got very specific things that they believe.”

Behar, along with co-hosts Ana Navarro and Sunny Hostin, argued Barrett should recuse herself from a case that revolves around web designer Lori Smith’s refusal to design wedding websites for same-sex couples due to her religious beliefs. Barrett came under fire by some Democratic lawmakers for her Catholic faith during her 2017 confirmation hearings, though she made assurances her faith would not interfere in her judicial duties.

People of Praise describes itself as a multi-denominational “charismatic Christian community” which honors the early Christians “who were led by the Holy Spirit to form a community.” Barrett served as a “handmaid,” meaning a leadership role, in the group’s Ranaghan household while she attended law school at Notre Dame. Her role led major media outlets to falsely compare her association with the group to Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel, “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

New Disney CEO Bob Iger Says He Wants To ‘Quiet Things Down’ On The Culture War Front

GRETCHEN CLAYSON

CONTRIBUTOR

Returning Disney CEO Bob Iger stated Tuesday that he wanted to “quiet things down” on the culture war front in his first town hall meeting with employees, according to video footage posted by Manhattan Institute senior fellow Christopher Rufo.

“Do I like the company being embroiled in controversy? Of course not. It can be distracting, and it can have a negative impact on the company. And to the extent that I can work to quiet things down, I’m going to do that,” Iger said, according to a video clip of Tuesday’s meeting posted by Rufo.

Earlier in 2022, Disney lost the special tax districts granted to the corporation by the state of Florida under the 1967 Reedy Creek Improvement Act. The loss came after the company challenged Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis’ Parental Rights in Education bill by aiming to get the bill repealed in court. In March, leaked video footage showed Disney executive producer Latoya Raveneau saying her team had implemented a “not-at-all-secret gay agenda” that would be “adding queerness” to children’s programming.

While Disney didn’t make a public statement over the leaked draft opinion regarding the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the company reportedly sent an internal memo to its employees, assuring them of Disney’s commitment to assist with “family planning and reproductive care, no matter where they live.”

An Echelon Insights poll in May showed nearly 60% of investors thought it was a “bad thing” for companies to advance a political or social agenda through its financial influence. Forty-six percent of American investors felt companies should not publicly express political positions on current national topics.

While Iger shared his wish to avoid the distractions of so-called controversy for the Disney corporation,he said he has no plans to stop Disney’s already stated position in advocating for LGBTQ rights and including that in programming.

“One of the core values of our storytelling is inclusion, and acceptance, and tolerance. And we can’t lose that, we just can’t lose that … How we actually change the world for the good must continue … We’re not going to make everybody happy all the time, and we’re not [going to] try to. We’re certainly not going to lessen our core values in order to make everybody happy all the time,” Iger saidduring the meeting, according to the footage posted by Rufo.

I agree, the only reason its a discussion is he needs to stir the pot

“Explained: “In the Midst of Chaos, There Is Also Opportunity” (Sun Tzu)”

In Sun Tzu’s The Art of War, the author advises that “in the midst of chaos, there is also opportunity.” What does Tzu mean by this?

We’ll cover what’s involved when mobilizing an attack, how to use both orthodox and unorthodox actions to confuse your opponent, and what Tzu means when he says, “In the midst of chaos, there is also opportunity.”

Mobilizing an Attack

Using force means allowing the momentum of the conflict to move your hand. A good leader allows momentum, not the brawn of the troops, to provide efficiency of strategy. Let momentum work in your favor, and victory will require little effort. Momentum may be chaotic, but in the midst of chaos, there is also opportunity.

Momentum can be created by manipulating your opponents. Make your opponents follow the path you lay out for them. When they are on your path, you know when and how to attack.

Assuming a formation to create a false perception of your troops will cause your opponent to take a certain shape, one you’ve manufactured and control.

Dangle a carrot in front of your opponent by convincing them of manufactured gain, and you will know what their next move will be.

When you force your opponent into action, you can see the ins and outs of their preparedness and strength. You can determine their behavior patterns when you create scenarios where they are forced to act.

Orthodox vs. Unorthodox Action

In battle, fighting is unremarkable. It is straightforward in action. But victory is attained through the remarkable. Unremarkable and remarkable actions are also referred to as orthodox and unorthodox actions, respectively.

Both orthodox and unorthodox actions are taken during conflict. Ensuring victory means having a command of both orthodox and unorthodox actions. Unorthodox actions are chaotic, but remember, in the midst of chaos, there is also opportunity.

Orthodox actions are straightforward techniques—tried and true behaviors and formations.

For example, fighting on the front lines or attacking a valuable territory are orthodox actions.

Unorthodox actions are surprise attacks and other maneuvers outside the typical boundaries of battle.

For example, ambushes and deception are unorthodox tactics.

Orthodox and unorthodox tactics should be blended to work in harmony. Like the endless combination of colors derived from the five primary colors, there are multiple variations encompassed within the primary actions of orthodox and unorthodox behaviors.

Orthodox behavior is always direct, and unorthodox behavior is always a surprise.

But the manifestation of each is endless in its possibilities.

Manipulate what your enemy views as orthodox and unorthodox behaviors. By feigning orthodox behavior, you set your opponent up for attack through unorthodox action. For instance, disorganization emerges from organization, fear emerges from bravery, and vulnerability emerges from strength.

If you want to appear unorganized, you must first be organized.

If you want to appear cowardly, you must come from a place of courage.

If you want to appear weak, you must start from a foundation of strength.

These deceptions will mislead your enemy.

Deception is a great way to gain information about your opponent. If they think you are weak and they attack, you know the level of their aggression and greed.
