I haven't seen anything specific to suggest that's the case, but he crashed and burned really hard/fast after the David Ruben interview because of what he said about his experience as a Catholic youth. He "went there" and said exactly what he wasn't supposed to say. After that, he fell out of the limelight, and it seems like someone's definitely pulling all his strings.
