LAPD Issues Search Warrant for Reddit to Identify Who Leaked City Council Racist Remarks
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) issued a search warrant to Reddit Nov. 29 to identify the person responsible for the recent leak of the racially disparaging conversation between former Los Angeles City Council President Nury Martinez and other local officials.
According to an LAPD statement to The Epoch Times, the department “has opened an investigation into the leaked recording involving multiple city council members to determine the origin of the recording.”
The probe involves “interviews of persons present and any potential witnesses that have insight into this investigation,” the statement read.
According to Police Chief Michel Moore, since last month the LAPD has been looking into whether the audio recording was produced illegally last year. Under California law, private conversations cannot be recorded unless all parties agree to be taped.
Currently, it is unclear who recorded the conversation, which reportedly took place at a Los Angeles County Federation of Labor’s office, or who posted it on Reddit Oct. 9.
Besides Martinez, Los Angeles County Federation of Labor President Ron Herrera and Councilmen Gil Cedillo and Kevin de León could be heard in the conversation that reportedly happened in October 2021 with racist remarks about a fellow councilor and other ethnic groups.
The recording surfaced just weeks before the Nov. 8 election, but was removed shortly after. Herrera resigned from his position the next day, followed by Martinez a few days later.
Since the leak, protesters have disrupted city council meetings since Oct. 11, calling for Cedillo and de León to resign.
De León said in a series of television and radio interviews he wanted to regain the trust of the community and his colleagues. Cedillo lost his re-election bid in the November election and will be leaving the council in December regardless.

Planned Parenthood director claims kids are 'sexual beings' from birth while promoting 'useful' porn literacy
An executive director at a Planned Parenthood's sex education arm claimed that children are born "sexual" while simultaneously advocating for comprehensive sex education from kindergarten through 12th grade and porn literacy for certain ages, Fox News Digital found.
Bill Taverner, who has advocated for sexuality education at U.S. congressional briefings, is the executive director of Planned Parenthood's Center for Sex Education located in New Jersey. The Center provides training materials nationally and hosts the largest conference for sex educators in the U.S.
In 2015, he said, "[We have] in our society, an assumption of asexuality of people with intellectual disabilities. It's a myth that's perpetuated, and really we are all sexual beings from birth until death."
Taverner did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Planned Parenthood said in a guide entitled the "Fundamentals of Teaching Sexuality" that "sexuality is a part of life through all the ages and stages. Babies, elders, and everyone in between can experience sexuality."
He further argues that teaching about pornography in classrooms is similar to instructing children on how to use a condom.
