New York AG chief of staff quits after misconduct investigation
An independent investigation by a law firm found no evidence of wrongdoing by Ibrahim Khan
State Attorney General Letitia James’s longtime chief of staff and one of her most-trusted advisers resigned after being investigated for workplace misconduct, according to a person familiar with the matter.
A law firm was hired to conduct an independent investigation into Ibrahim Khan and found no evidence of official workplace misconduct. It came after an allegation of sexual harassment surfaced in October, said the person, who declined to describe the outcome of the probe. The investigation involved “a few” women, none of whom are current employees, said the person, who asked not to be identified discussing information that isn’t public.
In a statement to Bloomberg News, Khan, who has worked closely with James since before she was New York’s top law enforcement officer, said his resignation had nothing to do with the allegations and that he planned to resign at the end of James’s first term anyway.

New York State Department of Health Commissioner Dr. Mary Bassett will step down from her role effective Jan. 1, the health department announced today.
Bassett will be returning to the Harvard Chan School of Public Health, where she previously served as an FXB Professor of the Practice of Health and Human Rights in the social and behavioral sciences department.
She was appointed to the health commissioner position on Dec. 1, 2021, and has overseen New York’s response to the continued Covid-19 pandemic, the monkeypox virus outbreak the city experienced this summer, and the resurgence of polio. Prior to working for the state Bassett served as commissioner of the city Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

WASHINGTON—Lawmakers should pass legislation that would impose strict rules on cryptocurrency exchanges, including rules to limit or prohibit the conflicts of interest that contributed to FTX’s collapse, Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Rostin Behnam said Thursday.
Speaking to members of the Senate Agriculture Committee, Mr. Behnam said he still supported a bill that would give his small agency authority to police trading in bitcoin, ether and other digital assets classified as commodities. FTX and its founder Sam Bankman-Fried also lobbied in support of the legislation before the firm’s collapse last month.
