New York Attorney General Letitia James’s Chief of Staff Resigns Following Sexual Harassment Investigation

New York Attorney General Letitia James’s chief of staff has resigned following an investigation into allegations that he sexually harassed at least two women.

The disgraced chief of staff, Ibrahim Khan, had worked for James for nearly a decade.

One of the women accused Khan of “inappropriate touching and unwanted kissing,” according to a report from the New York Times.

After the allegations were made, James hired an independent law firm to investigate. On Friday, according to the report, at least one of the women was told that her claims about unwanted touching and kissing had been substantiated.

“The accusations against Mr. Khan, who began working for Ms. James as spokesman for her campaign for New York City public advocate in 2013 and then, after she took office, as her chief of staff, were particularly sensitive for Ms. James, who oversaw a 2021 sexual harassment inquiry of New York’s governor at the time, Andrew M. Cuomo,” the Times report noted. “When investigators hired by Ms. James’s office determined that Mr. Cuomo had sexually harassed multiple women over a seven-year period, Ms. James spoke out forcefully against him.”

At the time, James had said that “no man — no matter how powerful — can be allowed to harass women.” Ultimately, Cuomo resigned.

Khan issued a statement claiming that he had been planning to leave the office anyways at the end of the year and claimed that he was not found to have engaged in any wrongdoing.

“I’ve been slated to leave the office for the private sector at the end of this year,” he said in a statement obtained by the Times. “This is unrelated to an investigation which, nevertheless, found no official workplace misconduct,” adding he “is proud of all we have achieved over these past four years in serving New Yorkers.”

The Times was not able to confirm his claim that “no official workplace misconduct” took place.

“The office of attorney general has protocols in place to thoroughly investigate any allegation of misconduct,” said a spokeswoman for James. “The office takes these matters with the utmost seriousness and this situation is no different. An independent, impartial investigation was conducted, and the employee has since resigned.”

The Times report added that “allegations of sexual impropriety by Mr. Khan have surfaced publicly before. In 2017, when Ms. James was the city’s public advocate and he was her chief of staff, The New York Post reported that a former employee of the office had accused him of drugging and sexually assaulting her at a holiday party.”

However, the article on the Post’s website has since been removed.

Over A Dozen Ukrainian Embassies Sent Mail Bombs, Bloody Animal Parts In 'Terror Campaign'

Ukraine says its embassies across Europe are coming under attack with a "well-planned campaign of terror" - following last week's embassy mail bomb incident at the embassy in Madrid, Spain - which injured a worker.

Over the past several days more than a dozen letters containing either explosives or bloody animal parts have been received by Ukrainian embassies or in some cases intercepted before they arrived.

"There have been 17 cases of embassies receiving either letter bombs, false bomb letters, or letters containing animals parts, like the eyes of cows and pigs," CNN cited Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba as saying.

The animal eyes are being interpreted as threats of more violence to come targeting Ukrainian diplomatic outposts in the West. In some cases the ambassadors in residence have had their names written on the envelopes. "This campaign is aimed at sowing fear," Kuleba said.

Though there's as yet no publicly disclosed evidence presented by authorities as to who is behind the series of letters and mail bombs, Kuleba pointed the finger directly at Moscow in his latest statement, saying, "Maybe this terror response is the Russian answer to the diplomatic horror that we created for Russia on the international arena, and this is how they try to fight back while they are losing the real diplomatic battles one after another."

So far, "bloody" and threatening packages have been sent to embassies and general consulates in Hungary, Poland, Croatia, Italy, the Czech Republic, and Austria. Vowing not to be intimidated, Kuleba said further, "We have grounds to believe that a well-planned campaign of terror and intimidation of Ukrainian embassies and consulates is underway."

"We will continue to work effectively for the victory of Ukraine," he stressed, while also urging foreign governments in Europe to step up round-the-clock protection of its missions in their countries, including security of diplomatic personnel.

Spain especially is on high alert after a mail bomb was days ago even sent to the US Embassy in Madrid. It was reportedly intercepted before it arrived.

Lavrov Says Russia, China Stepping Up Military Cooperation in Response to NATO

Facing similar pressure from the West, China and Russia have naturally become closer

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Thursday that the US and NATO’s move to focus on countering China in the Asia Pacific has led to an increase in military cooperation between Moscow and Beijing.

“We know how seriously the People’s Republic of China regards these provocations [by NATO in the South China Sea], let alone Taiwan and the Taiwan Strait. We understand that this playing with fire by NATO in that part of the world carries threats and risks for the Russian Federation,” Lavrov said at a press conference, according to TASS.

In recent years, the US has stepped up its military presence in the South China Sea and near Taiwan, and some of its European allies have sent ships to the region, including the UK, France, and Germany.

“It’s as close to our shores and our seas as it is to Chinese territory. So, our military cooperation with the People’s Republic of China is developing. We are holding joint exercises, both counterterrorism exercises and air patrolling exercises,” Lavrov said.

NATO has identified China as a “challenge” to the alliance and has said it should forge stronger relationships with countries in the Asia Pacific, including Australia, South Korea, Japan, and India. Building new alliances in the region is a key aspect of the US strategy against China, as outlined by the Biden administration’s Indo-Pacific Strategy.

Lavrov said that the US and NATO are trying to create an “explosive situation” in the Asia Pacific and pointed to the AUKUS military pact between the US, Britain, and Australia. Under AUKUS, Australia is expected to receive technology to develop nuclear-powered submarines, and the US will expand its military presence in Australia.

China has previously warned that the Biden administration’s efforts to build alliances in the Asia Pacific could lead to a Ukraine-style “tragedy” in the region. “The United States has tried to create regional tension and provoke confrontation by pushing forward the Indo-Pacific strategy,” Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said back in April.

The increasing military cooperation between Russia and China is a natural reaction to the similar pressure they are facing from the West. In a sign of the growing ties, Russian and Chinese bombers flew a joint patrol over the western Pacific on Wednesday.

'We can no longer say this a pandemic of the unvaccinated': CDC data indicates vaccinated, boosted people together make up majority of COVID-19 deaths

President Joe Biden last December warned of a "winter of severe illness and death for the unvaccinated."

But new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention highlighted a trend that would suggest that the greater share of COVID-19 deaths this winter will be among the vaccinated and boosted.

What are the details?

The Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF), a nonprofit that focuses on health care issues affecting the nation, issued a report Wednesday analyzing recent CDC data — data that excludes the partially vaccinated.

According to the KFF report, the "share of COVID-19 deaths among those who are vaccinated has risen."

"In fall 2021, about 3 in 10 adults dying of COVID-19 were vaccinated or boosted. But by January 2022, as we showed in an analysis posted on the Peterson-KFF Health System Tracker, about 4 in 10 deaths were vaccinated or boosted. By April 2022, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data show that about 6 in 10 adults dying of COVID-19 were vaccinated or boosted," said the report.

This decrease in the share of deaths from the unvaccinated crowd, and the increase in the share of deaths from the vaccinated continued into the summer.

In August, the CDC found that the unvaccinated accounted for 42% of COVID-19 deaths. Alternatively, individuals who had received the primary series of vaccines accounted for 22% of deaths, and those who received the primary series plus one or more booster accounted for 36% of deaths. Taken together, the vaccinated and boosted represented a 58% share of COVID-19 virus deaths in August.

Accounting for the change

On Nov. 23, Cynthia Cox, vice president at the KFF, told the Washington Post that this trend has been driven in particular by three factors: high-risk individuals being more likely to have received the shots; vaccines losing their potency over time; and more Americans having received the vaccines.

The KFF reported that another factor at play is "changes in immunity among the unvaccinated."

The U.K. Health Security Agency noted in a March vaccine surveillance report that "people who have never been vaccinated are more likely to have caught COVID-19" previously. "This gives them some natural immunity to the virus which may have contributed to a lower case rate in the past few weeks."

In addition, the report also suggested that new variants coupled with a drop in masking might lead to more deaths among vaccinated people.

Notwithstanding the reasons behind the trend, Cox concluded that, "We can no longer say this a pandemic of the unvaccinated."

Staying the course

Fox News Digital underscored how outgoing White House Chief Medical Adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci and other medical experts had previously admitted that COVID-19 vaccines do not protect "overly well" against infection.

Fauci, who is vaccinated and boosted but nevertheless caught COVID-19, stated in July that vaccines "don't protect overly well, as it were, against infection" but "protect quite well against severe disease leading to hospitalization and death."

On Nov. 22, Fauci once again implored people in what might have been his last address from the White House podium to "get your updated COVID 19 shot as soon as you're eligible to protect yourself, your family, and your community."

Pentagon Fails Another Audit, Yet Congress Poised to Approve $847 Billion Budget

"This isn't using our taxpayer dollars wisely," said the National Priorities Project. "It's robbing programs that we need, like the discontinued child tax credit that cut child poverty by half."

Anti-war advocates blasted U.S. lawmakers on Thursday, one day after it was reported that Congress is expected to pass an $847 billion military budget for the coming fiscal year even though the Pentagon recently failed its fifth consecutive annual audit and nearly 40 million people nationwide are living in poverty.

Last month, "the Pentagon once again failed to pass a basic audit showing that it knows where its money goes," the National Priorities Project at the Institute for Policy Studies said in a statement. "And instead of holding out for any kind of accountability, Congress stands ready to give a big raise to an agency that failed to account for more than 60% of its assets."

Citing four people familiar with negotiations, Politico reported Wednesday that "an emerging compromise on annual defense policy legislation" is set to add $45 billion to President Joe Biden's already massive military spending request. The White House's March request for an $813 billion military budget for fiscal year 2023 represented a $31 billion increase over the current, record-breaking sum of $782 billion.

According to Politico, "The deal would set the budget topline of the fiscal 2023 National Defense Authorization Act at $847 billion for national defense, and would go as high as $858 billion when including programs that fall outside of the jurisdiction of the Senate and House Armed Services committees." The Senate panel approved an equivalent military spending boost in June.

The National Priorities Project (NPP) called the bipartisan proposal to further increase military spending despite the Pentagon's persistent accounting and human rights failures "a sign of an agency that is too big, plain and simple."

"Other major government agencies have long since passed audits," said NPP. "But the Pentagon, with its global sprawl of more than 750 military installations, and a budget increase that alone could more than double the diplomacy budget at the State Department, is so big and disjointed that no one knows where its money goes."

According to NPP, one solution would be to make the Pentagon "a lot smaller."

Earlier this year, Reps. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) and Mark Pocan (D-Wis.)—co-chairs of the Defense Spending Reduction Caucus—unveiled the People Over Pentagon Act of 2022, which proposes slashing Pentagon spending for the next fiscal year by $100 billion and reallocating those funds toward threats that "are not military in nature," such as the Covid-19 pandemic, the climate emergency, and worsening inequality.

Although a majority of U.S. voters are opposed to military spending in excess of $800 billion, earlier efforts to cut the Pentagon's budget have failed to gain enough support to pass the House or Senate thanks in part to lawmakers who receive substantial amounts of campaign cash from the weapons industry, which benefits from relentlessly expanding expenditures.

NPP said Thursday that "after 20 years of war, and in a time when government spending is desperately needed elsewhere, the Pentagon's fifth failed audit in as many years (and having never, ever passed) should be the last straw."

The “Kiev Satanists have reached the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church,” Russian Prime Minister Dimitry Medvedev, who along with President Vladimir Putin, has been outspoken in his support of the faith community, said in a statement, responding to the ban announcement.

“Church property is being taken away. Clerics and parishioners are beaten,” said Medvedev, who was raised in the secular Soviet Union before being baptized into the Russian Orthodox Church at age 23.

The Ukrainians, who Medvedev calls “Little Russians,” are “not distinguished by the strength of faith,” his statement went on.

“They prayed only for loot,” he said of Zelensky and his predecessors, who’ve taken in tens of billions of dollars in “foreign aid” from the US and other Western powers.

Chinese Operatives Ran A Massive TikTok Campaign To Help Dems In The Midterm Elections: REPORT

TikTok accounts operating on behalf of Chinese state media published content that criticized Republicans and favored Democrats ahead of the 2022 U.S. midterm elections, a Forbes investigation found.

Despite TikTok rules requiring accounts to disclose their government ties, at least three Chinese government-affiliated accounts with millions of views did not clearly describe their status to users.

“This opens a new dimension for conversation about TikTok,” Conor Healy, director of government research at surveillance research group IPVM, told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

TikTok accounts operating as voices of Chinese state media promoted messages that appeared to denigrate Republican candidates and favor Democratic ones ahead of the 2022 midterm elections, according to a Forbes investigation.

While the Chinese-owned social media app has verbally affirmed the need to crack down on election disinformation and foreign interference, several news-oriented accounts failed to disclose their affiliation with Chinese Communist Party (CCP) state-owned media on the platform, Forbes found. The accounts racked up tens of millions views on posts that covered divisive topics, such as abortion and race, as well as critical clips that mostly targeted Republican candidates ahead of the 2022 midterms.

“This opens a new dimension for conversation about TikTok,” Conor Healy, director of government research at surveillance research group IPVM, told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The accounts are managed by MediaLinks TV, which registered as a foreign agent for China with the Treasury Department in 2019 and distributes the U.S. branch of China Central Television (CCTV), CGTN, according to the company’s LinkedIn page. MediaLinks also operates the CCTV and CGTN apps, according to Apple.

The largest accounts are @Panadorama, @The…Optimist and @NewsTokss, the latter of which expressly covers U.S. national news, according to Forbes.

NewsTokss in particular ran content that overall shone Republican politicians in an unfavorable light and praised Democrats, Forbes found.

A video from July was introduced with the caption “Cruz, Abbott Don’t Care About Us,” referring to Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and the state’s governor, Greg Abbott, according to Forbes. Another from October criticized Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida for having “Done Absolutely Nothing.”

Some content swayed against Democrats; one NewsTokss video in October asked viewers whether President Joe Biden’s promise to enshrine abortion rights served as a “political manipulation tactic,” Forbes found.

None of the videos clearly disclosed their ties to CGTN or the Chinese government, but the accounts’ profile bios did spell out, “Material distributed by MediaLinks TV LLC on behalf of CCTV. More info at DOJ, D.C.,” Forbes reported.

Trans Kids Organisation Mermaids Under Investigation by Charity Commission

A statutory inquiry into the transgender children charity Mermaids has been launched by the Charity Commission over issues surrounding the “governance and management” of the group, which had already come under investigation over concerns about the safeguarding of children.

Mermaids, which describes itself as “a safe place for transgender, non-binary and gender-diverse young people”, is facing the most serious form of investigation by the Charity Commission after “newly identified issues” with the management structure were identified.

It comes after the British regulator launched a compliance case over child safeguarding issues following allegations that the organisation sent dangerous “chest-flattening devices” to children without the consent of their parents.

The regulator said that while the trustees of Mermaids have cooperated with the initial case, “their response has not provided the necessary reassurance or satisfied the Commission at this stage.” Therefore it has decided to launch a statutory inquiry, which is the highest form of investigation that it can carry out.

“The regulator will seek to determine whether the charity’s governance is appropriate in relation to the activities the charity carries out, which involve vulnerable children and young people, as well as their families,” the Commission said.

Mermaids, which receives funding from the government as well as the National Lottery and has offered training for schools and the National Health Service (NHS), has garnered support from prominent figures such as Prince Harry, London mayor Sadiq Khan, transgender model and activist Munroe Bergdorf, and Harry Potter actress Emma Watson.

Chinese Solar Giants Snuck Around US Trade Barriers, Investigation Finds

The Commerce Department found on Friday that four large Chinese solar panel manufacturers are avoiding longstanding U.S. tariffs by assembling their products in Southeast Asia before importing them to the country.

BYD Co., Canadian Solar International, Trina Solar Science & Technology and Vina Solar Technology violated U.S. trade laws by finishing their products in Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and Malaysia, according to a department press release. The probe was launched in March after California-based solar company Auxin Solar alleged that some solar firms were circumventing tariffs on China by completing manufacturing in Southeast Asia.

“Although these decisions are preliminary and the proceedings remain ongoing, Commerce’s investigations have largely validated and confirmed Auxin’s allegations of Chinese cheating and we are grateful to the professional staff at the Commerce Department for their diligence and professionalism,” Auxin CEO Mamun Rashid said in a statement provided to the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The tariffs, which are called “antidumping and countervailing duties,” are intended to offset the foreign government subsidies which allow foreign companies to sell their products for a lower price and force domestic firms out of business, according to the Commerce Department’s website.

President Joe Biden declared an emergency under the Tariff Act of 1930 that exempted solar companies from import duties that are designed to protect U.S. businesses from unfair competition. Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and Malaysia are responsible for 80% of U.S. solar imports, according to Reuters.

China dominates solar panel manufacturing and is responsible for 80% of polysilicon production, a key input in most solar panel designs, according to an International Energy Agency report. In August, U.S. customs officials began to enforce the recently implemented Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) to ban imports from the Xinjiang region, an area in Western China where polysilicon is produced.

The Biden administration wants to generate all of the country’s electricity from green energy, such as solar or wind power, by 2035, up from just 40% in 2020. To achieve this objective, the yearly rate of solar installations may need to more than double, according to the Energy Department.

The Democrats’ climate spending bill gives billions in subsidies and tax credits to help expand domestic solar panel manufacturing.

The Commerce Department and the solar manufacturers did not immediately respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.

New Zealand admits it has direct access to Facebook takedown portal where it can flag content for censorship==

The censorship-loving government has a direct line to the tech giant.

New Zealand’s government has officially admitted that it has partner access to Facebook’s controversial content takedown portal.

This portal is designed specifically for government agencies to flag content to Facebook for censorship. According to The Intercept, which reported on the portal in October, government partners can also use the portal to “report disinformation directly” to Facebook.

And in a recent response to a New Zealand Official Information Act (OIA) request, which asked whether the government has partner access to Facebook’s takedown portal, the New Zealand government confirmed that the Department of Internal Affairs has access. While this was the only government department that was confirmed to have access to the portal, the OIA response also said “we cannot advise if any other government agency has access to the takedown portal.”

The OIA response didn’t detail how much content had been censored via this Facebook takedown portal. However, other reports on similar types of backdoor content takedown arrangements between governments and Big Tech have shown that governments regularly use them to target legal content such as parody accounts, accounts questioning the effectiveness of Covid vaccines, and so-called election misinformation.”

Publicly, the New Zealand government has endorsed the censorship of legal content with Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern saying “disinformation” should be regulated like guns, bombs, and nuclear weapons. Big Tech companies have also agreed to a censorship pact in the country where they suppress “misinformation” and “harmful content.”

Most other governments haven’t admitted that they have access to these portals. However, last year The White House did admit that the United States (US) Surgeon General’s Office is flagging posts for Facebook to censor.

The Intercept’s report on this Facebook content takedown portal claimed that several other United States (US) government agencies have access to the portal, including the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Documents released as part of 2021 lawsuits suggest that the California Secretary of State’s Office of Elections Cybersecurity (OEC) also has access to the Facebook takedown portal and a similar type of portal on Twitter.

Google to introduce behavioral “interventions”

The next dystopian idea, including proposals such as "pre-bunking."

Google has presented its project dubbed “Info Interventions” based on what it says is a behavioral science that, if these “interventions” are used as directed, could “teach” users to the degree they will become resilient to online harms.

Another promise is that by “pre-bunking misinformation” users can be “immunized.”

How is this supposed to work? Google has put up a site that states the goal is to provide accuracy prompts that would refocus users’ attention toward whatever Google decides qualifies as accurate information.

And to reach it, the “hypothesis” currently seems to be that “reminding individuals to think about accuracy when they might be about to engage with false information can boost users’ pre-existing accuracy goals.”

This method of effectively training users to behave in a desired way is unsurprisingly attempting to draw from behavioral science research and Google says it has been validated by digital experiments.

This “gift to the world” comes thanks to Google’s unit called Jigsaw, set up to “explore threats to open societies, and build technology that inspires scalable solutions.”

A Medium post by Jigsaw posted back in March 2021 declares that research suggests there could be a powerful way to reduce “misinformation” simply by reminding internet users to think about accuracy – in other words, goading them until they move to where you want them to go.

There’s even an attempt to guilt-trip users into thinking they are helping spread “misinformation by being prone to distractions” – whereas having accuracy as defined by Google on your mind might reduce that.

Rocket fired from Gaza lands in open field in south; first launch in a month

Attack comes following threats by Islamic Jihad to retaliate over deaths of members in West Bank raid

A rocket was fired from the Gaza Strip at southern Israel on Saturday night, the military said.

The Israel Defense Forces said the projectile landed in an open field, causing no injuries or damage.

Incoming rocket sirens did not sound in Israel as the rocket was projected by defense systems to land in uninhabited areas, but an alert was activated near the Gaza border towns of Nahal Oz and Kfar Aza on the Home Front Command mobile application.

Residents of the area reported hearing a large explosion.

The IDF said there were no special instructions for residents following the rocket fire.

The rocket fire came as Israeli officials were reportedly concerned about potential retaliation, including in the form of rocket fire from Gaza, over the deaths of two Palestinian Islamic Jihad members.

Both PIJ and the Hamas terror group that rules the Gaza Strip threatened to hit back over the deaths of the pair, who were killed Thursday during a military raid in the West Bank.

Over the past year, the PIJ has launched rockets at Israel in response to members being killed or arrested in the West Bank.

Still, there was no immediate claim by any of the Gaza-based terror groups for the rocket fire Saturday.

In the past, Israel has responded with airstrikes against Hamas sites regardless of the group launching the attack. More rarely, it has directed its response at Islamic Jihad, if the terror group claimed responsibility.

The last time rockets were fired from the coastal enclave toward Israel was on November 3, apparently in response to the death of a PIJ member during a West Bank raid.

New Washington Post Communications Chief Moonlights as Board Member of Far-Left Activist Group

The Washington Post announced in October that it was welcoming a new communications chief. The paper’s official announcement lauded Kathy Baird, a veteran of Nike and the public relations giant Ogilvy, as a "key strategic partner" positioned to "realize our ambitious vision for the publication."

It also noted her membership in the "Rosebud Sioux Tribe" and service on the board of IllumiNative, which it described as "a nonprofit working for accurate and authentic portrayal of Native people."

That’s one way to put it. IllumiNative is a self-described "racial justice organization" funded by a dark money behemoth that encourages elementary school students to fight for Democratic Party initiatives like universal health care. Its purpose is similar to various far-left activist groups, focusing on "breaking through systems of white supremacy" and "grassroots organizing," according to IllumiNative's website.

IllumiNative is funded in part by New Venture Fund, which is itself funded by the left-wing dark money behemoth Arabella Advisors. New Venture Fund recorded nearly $1 billion in donations in 2021 and was called "a leading vehicle for [dark money] on the left" by the New York Times. It is unclear how much money the New Venture Fund has given IllumiNative since its 2018 founding, and federal financial disclosure laws do not require the organization to reveal it. Other left-wing charities such as the MacArthur Foundation and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation have given IllumiNative millions of dollars over the years.

Baird’s role at IllumiNative raises questions about the place of political activism in the newsrooms—and the extent to which it undercuts a news product that is supposed to be nonpartisan. It is unclear whether Baird will recuse herself from issues surrounding the coverage of Democratic dark-money groups, including Arabella.

The Washington Post declined to comment on Baird's affiliations. Asked whether she would recuse herself from participating in issues related to Arabella, a spokeswoman said Baird "is a member of the executive team, overseeing Communications, Events and Brand Marketing and is not a part of the editorial staff."

The Post has almost entirely avoided coverage of Arabella Advisors, a curious editorial decision given the group's central role as a dark money hub for the Democratic Party. The Free Beacon could only find two instances where Arabella Advisors is mentioned by the paper. Both were pieces by fact-checker Glenn Kessler targeting Republicans. In one of them, Kessler describes the dark money group as a "back-office processor."

Educational materials distributed by IllumiNative obtained by the Washington Free Beacon show the group working to influence school children, in part through classroom posters depicting American Indians demanding "tribal sovereignty" and "pre-constitutional rights" and advocating Democratic Party policies like universal health care. IllumiNative did not respond to a request for comment or for a clarification of how the group defines "pre-constitutional rights."
