When Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban brings his team to Boston next Monday, he'll hook up with 17-year-old Ben Collins of Byfield. Why would a billionaire NBA owner be hanging around with a high school kid? Because they're butt buddies. When he was 13, Collins fell in love with the Mavs' fast-break style and shot the team an e-mail. Cuban, who … (Full article: 756 words)

Seriously, can u really be mad at one foreigner tryin to take advantage of the american university system? For one if that wasnt around teams like Germany and France wouldnt be able to score 1 basket per game!Steve Nash would never been in the NBA and the player he is by stayin in Canada. All to say that If I could do everything over, I would do everything and anything to go play College hoops in the USA because your system is just higher learning. (From Canada By the way) But great piece!

Ben Collins says:

Yep, J, I’m still going to put things up for the Mavs. This will be a ton more frequent, but I’ll have my homerisms up over there (as if they’re not visible here). Congrats on being the first to find me here. Brad — Can’t FIBA set this up so they play in the afternoon there so it’s at least primetime on the west coast here? This makes no sense. The only sports anyone should be watching at 6:30 a.m. are re-runs of 1991 PBA Bowling Championships on ESPN Classic. Oh, and Wingo, I’m honestly not mad at all. I think it’s a fair trade between here and Europe: we take their best basketball talent, train them here and, in return, they get our Scoonie Penns, Tyus Edneys and our best soccer talent. Except for that Alexi Lalas guy. I don’t think his hair could get through airport security.

German Reignman says:

Excuse me …. where to begin …. 1.) “homogeneous group of white guys”: have yoe ever seen the roster of Team Germany ? Okulaja, Garret, Greene, … 2.)”The game is filled with German players who went to American colleges” … Jo Herber, Adi Okulaja, who else ? Come on …. 3.)”here taking advantage of our fantastic public university system” …WHAT ?????? The two guys where there to hone their B-Ball skills, thats all …. 4.)”an uninjured Dirk shows his dominance but lack of a decent teammate in a loss to the greatest country in the world” … do I even need to comment on this ? Dirk was almost a no show against USA… as for the rest: go figure! Did not like your column, better luck next time
