#OTD in 1941, the destroyers Hayate and Kisaragi became the first Japanese surface warships to be sunk following Pearl Harbor. Hayate exploded after being hit by Marine 5" coast-defense guns while Kisaragi was sunk by Marine Wildcats during the Battle of Wake Island.
