The crust doesn't necessarily 'unlock' I know that's the present leading theory. In aviation, when a gyro is spinning freely if you accidently blip it with an excess precess/process signal it will tilt over 90 degrees, then rotate 90 degrees and immediately whip back and correct w/out an input signal.
You can see a similar action when you spin a top on your kitchen counter, sometimes it will fall over, clock 90 then pop right back up. No idea if there is a name for this phenomenon but the more we learn about the 'galactic current sheet' the more I suspect this is what will occur.
It's going to be trippy, hope I'm alive to experience the horror show.
