On June 10, CORE—the global crisis-response organization founded by Sean Penn and Ann Lee—held its annual fundraising benefit at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles. The evening, which honored Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Frank Giustra, and Francesca Dutton, was hosted by Aida Rodriguez and treated guests to a live auction as well as performances from John Legend, Dakh Daughters, Josh Homme and Friends, and Let It Happen. Guests including President Bill Clinton, Sharon Stone, Balthazar Getty, and Mark Burnett were also treated to a special video message from Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who encouraged guests to continue supporting his country's fight for freedom.

 

"When we held our last fundraising benefit in January 2020, we could not have predicted the places we would go or the many communities we’d support over the past two years," Ann Lee says. "We’ve been on the frontlines of COVID-19 response, activating a full scale campaign to provide over two million vaccinations, six million tests, and other critical resources to vulnerable communities in the U.S., Brazil, Haiti, and India. Having the benefit in LA has a new special meaning after the work we’ve done, from opening our first test site in March 2020 to operating the largest mass vaccination site in the US at Dodger Stadium. We’ve felt the pain of our fellow Angelenos, and we certainly saw it firsthand, which makes this moment that much more joyous that we can all be together in person."
