Zelenskyy Gives Biden Military Medal at White House Meeting

U.S. President Joe Biden welcomed Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the White House on Wednesday with renewed assurances of U.S. support amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“Thank you first of all,” Zelenskyy told the U.S. president in a meeting in the Oval Office. “It’s a great honor to be here.”

The Ukrainian president, who said he had wanted to come to the United States earlier, offered his appreciation to Biden, the U.S. Congress, and ordinary Americans for their support.

He gave Biden the Ukrainian cross for military merit, offered by a captain of a HIMARS rocket unit it had been awarded to.

“Well, undeserved but appreciated,” Biden said, promising to give the Ukrainian captain a command coin from a U.S. battlefield in Iraq, where his son Beau had fought.

Biden also pledged to strengthen Ukraine’s ability to defend itself, particularly its air defense. “That’s why we’re going to be providing Ukraine with a Patriot missile battery and training your forces to be able to accurately use it,” he said.

“You are the man of the year,” the U.S. president then told Zelenskyy of Time Magazine’s decision to put him on cover.

Biden also said Russian President Vladimir Putin is “escalating his assaults on civilians” and trying to “use winter as a weapon.”

Zelenskyy arrived at the White House’s South Lawn in a black Chevrolet with tinted windows, wearing his trademark olive green sweater and cargo pants. He stood between Biden and his wife Jill for a photo, then Biden put his arm around him as he guided him inside.

Zelenskyy said he would hold talks with Biden to strengthen Kyiv’s defense capabilities against Russia’s invasion.

He will participate in a joint news conference with Biden, and then Zelenskyy will go to Congress on Capitol Hill to address a joint meeting of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.

An American man with links to cop killers Gareth and Stacey Train claims the pair turned down an invitation to relocate in the US before carrying out a deadly ambush on Queensland Police officers.

News.com.au has established a link between the Arizona man and the Trains through a series of videos and a letter.

The man, who is understood to be an online friend of the Trains, contacted news.com.au after recent coverage linking him to the Trains.

News.com.au has forwarded the email from Don to the police investigating the incident.

Among the chilling email, much of which defended the Trains’ sinister actions and criticised media “hit pieces” on the trio, was a revelation he offered the Trains the option to relocate to the US.

“I asked the Trains to abandon the hell that Australia has become and relocate to America … they chose to weather the storm of tyranny inundating their homeland and to fight against it,” the man, known to the Trains as Don, said.

The email made it abundantly apparent the Trains felt persecuted due to their views on the Covid-19 vaccine rollouts and mandates.

SEAL Team 1 commander found dead in San Diego residence

Cmdr. Robert Ramirez III, commanding officer of SEAL Team 1, was found dead in his San Diego County residence Monday.

Naval Special Warfare Command officials said in a statement Wednesday that foul play is not suspected to have played a role in the decorated officer’s death.

Navy officials said the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department’s investigation remains ongoing.

“Bobby was an outstanding leader, devoted husband and father, and a good friend to us all,” Capt. David Abernathy, commanding officer of Naval Special Warfare Group 1, which manages all San Diego-based SEAL teams, said in a statement. “This is a devastating loss to our community and all who knew him. We will remain in support of Bobby’s family, friends and teammates during this extremely difficult time.”

Ramirez enlisted in 1996 and was commissioned in 2004.

He took command of SEAL Team 1 last month and arrived to the unit in June, according to his releasable service record and command officials.

His awards and decorations accrued over nearly 27 years of service include five Bronze Star Medals, two with the Combat “V” device denoting valor and acts of heroism.

Ramirez also has three Combat Action ribbons and medals for the Iraq and Afghanistan campaigns, among many others.

He is the second SEAL team commander to die in roughly the past year.

Cmdr. Brian Bourgeois, commander of SEAL Team 8, died on Dec. 4, 2021, after falling during a helicopter rope training event in Virginia.

The Army conducted the investigation into Bourgeois’ death and has yet to release the document, but officials told Navy Times in October that several issues led to the officer’s death, including communications issues within the Army helicopter from which Bourgeois was rappelling and a lack of communication between the aircrew and a partner ground force.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday that Russia needs to “continue to support and improve readiness” of its nuclear weapons.

“We need to continue to support, and to improve the readiness of our nuclear units. This is the main guarantee of our sovereignty and territorial integrity. A strategic priority is the overall balance of power in the world,” he told a meeting of the Russian Defense Ministry board in Moscow.

Putin also accused key NATO countries of using their military potential against Russia.

“It’s well known that today, the military potential and opportunities of virtually all the main countries of NATO are being used against Russia,” he said.

Putin claimed that Moscow’s “strategic adversaries” have been planning to “disintegrate, weaken and divide” Russia.

“Our strategic adversaries have the goal of disintegrating and weakening, dividing our country. This has been going on for centuries. [Russia is] too big, as they think, a country that poses a threat to someone. Therefore, it needs to be broken down, cut down a little,” he said.
