I believe they were both "targeted individuals." Aaron Swartz almost certainly was. Targeted individuals is a "soft kill" method where a person's life is slowly deconstructed until they are left in ruin.

Not necessarily directly. He worked for Booz Allen. The CIA will do a lot of their work under the guise of "contractor." The MIC is a sprawling empire of contractors and sub-contractors that do the dirty work for the CIA. Some of them are outright front organizations.
