Shortly after the Senate voted overwhelmingly to confirm President Joe Biden's nominee for Secretary of Defense, Gen. Lloyd Austin, he was sworn in on Friday afternoon by Tom Muir, acting director of Washington Headquarters Services, becoming the first Black Pentagon chief in the nation's history.

January 22, 2021

Senators voted 93-2 to confirm Austin's nomination in a final floor vote.

The only members to vote no were Republican Senators Josh Hawley of Missouri and Mike Lee of Utah.

According to a Pentagon statement, Austin took part in an intelligence briefing and meetings with Deputy Defense Secretary David Norquist and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Mark Milley promptly after being sworn in.

"It's an honor and a privilege to serve as our country's 28th Secretary of Defense, and I'm especially proud to be the first African American to hold the position," Austin tweeted after his confirmation. "Let's get to work."

On Thursday, the Senate Armed Services Committee advanced Austin's nomination while also approving a requisite waiver, which was necessary due to a law requiring active duty service members to wait seven years before serving as defense secretary. Austin retired from the Army just four years ago after 41 years of service. Congress had issued a waiver for Trump appointee James Mattis in 2017, which made some lawmakers hesitant to approve another waiver within such a short period. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said on Friday that the Senate should "pause and reflect" after granting waivers to both the Trump and Biden administrations to confirm defense secretaries. "The law that we keep waiving actually exists for a good reason," McConnell said. "Civilian control of the military is a fundamental principle of our republic." Earlier this week, Austin attempted to ease such concerns earlier during his confirmation hearing. "Let me say at the outset that I understand and respect the reservations some of you have expressed about having another recently retired general at the head of the Department of Defense," Austin stated. "The safety and security of our democracy demands competent civilian control of our armed forces, the subordination of military power to the civil," said Austin, adding that he would surround himself with qualified civilians to make policy decisions.

Might the documents not exist because it's an oral process and no stenographers/photographers around?

Harris just thought he looked like Willie…

Or 1992 or 2011. 1973 & 1978, two giant ice storms here, it was a tree calamity not to mention furnaces catching a case of failure to thrive. 2011 was no picnic either, must have been global warming and we were too dumb to recognize.

This seems like normal winter to anon, the last several were mild, expect the next several will be like this or worse. The mild winters were great. Cold sux.

Senator's son guilty of high treason for numerous acts and yet he skates into Congress and dies an old man. Makes anon sick.

The USS Forrestal 134 killed.

The ship holds some major distinctions such as being the first “super-carrier” and for the deaths of 134 sailors in a horrific fire on-board during the Vietnam War.

Pretty sure he eclipsed that kill number rather handily while he was a "POW"

Anon looked every day until the fateful day… all anon saw was squirrel ass and tail inside the trap attached to the fascia hole. The squirrel decided to off itself and RIP ya fuzzy menace..The NEW fascia is that concrete board.

Anchor Ana Cabrera bids emotional farewell to struggling CNN

December 24, 2022

CNN anchor Ana Cabrera hinted she won’t be off the air for long while bidding an emotional farewell to her struggling network.

“It’s hard to say goodbye to this place and the people here who mean so much to me,” Cabrera said on her 1 p.m. Thursday show. “However, I’m not saying goodbye to the work I love. I’m committed to learning and growing as a journalist and I’m excited to begin a new chapter in my career. But first I intend to take some time in the new year to just enjoy my family.”

As previously reported by The Post, Cabrera is expected to re-emerge after the holidays in a new role at MSNBC, where she will anchor the 11 a.m. slot, after sitting out the non-compete clause in her CNN contract.

MSNBC declined to comment.

Anon's first experience with extra residents, not gonna lie, freaked out and called for backup. Afterwards had all the attic insulation sucked out and replaced, might've been squirrel turds. It was also hot so easy enough to punt that job.

Nothing screams Christmas like the Jolly Roger. Anon has to buy a new USA flag now, send this off to the Scouts to dispose of, after their makeup lessons and such..

Could be a rash of home sales in your neighborhood. My second newest neighbor is flying fag flags and kept a Mondaire Jones yardsign up for months. Appears there's a Yankee in our midst living across the street from a 3-4th gen Democrat activist/uppity up. It's fine… it's all fine… just bring that radical bs here..

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Yankees go home!!!!
