In addition, sacrifice has multiple meanings. By setting aside a particular child, to serve in the "church" a parent has "sacrificed them to God". While they are still alive, they aren't living their own life, but one picked for them by their parents and preachers.
Jesus was also a Child Sacrifice, martyred as the unmarried child of God. Being brainwashed into climbing the various educational and corporate pyramids, to climb as high, and hoard as much as possible, is how parents sacrifice their children to the world, and their children's children wind up on missing posters and molested at day care, because they care more about the house, job, car, phone, that being homeless yet fully in charge of their child's safety.
With civilization, children get sacrificed to the mines, the trades, the seas, the corporations, the military, and elsewhere, and we applaud "Their Sacrifice" when they die in horror, on the job.
