More than half of states poised to raise minimum wage in 2023 as $15 an hour gains traction

The federal minimum wage of $7.25 is in place for 20 states.

Four states will have a $15-an-hour minimum wage by New Year’s Day, while 27 states are poised to raise the minimum wage in 2023.

Some states are enacting the wage change after Jan. 1, so by the end of 2023 there will be six states that are set to have minimum wages at or above $15 an hour. They are California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, Oregon, and Washington, according to a report last week from the National Employment Law Project.

Other states are gradually implementing a $15-an-hour minimum over the course of several years, including Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Nebraska, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Virginia, USA Today reported.

The federal minimum wage of $7.25 remains in place for 20 states.

The Congressional Budget Office found last year that raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour would increase the federal deficit by $54 billion over a decade due to the increase in prices for goods and services. Although about 900,000 fewer people would be in poverty, 1.4 million workers would lose their jobs, the report states.

Meanwhile, inflation over the summer placed the federal minimum wage at its lowest value in 66 years, according to the Economic Policy Institute. Inflation is still up 7.1% from last year, and some experts are concerned that increasing the minimum wage will fuel already high inflation.

"Wage increases cause inflation because the cost of producing goods and services goes up as companies pay their employees more. To make up for the increase in cost, companies must charge more for their goods and services to maintain the same level of profitability," Investopedia economist Will Kenton wrote.

Pulitzer-prize winning economist Milton Friedman argued in 1966 that raising the minimum wage would harm minorities and low-paid and unskilled workers the most.

"The loss to the unskilled workers will not be offset by gains to others. Smaller total employment will result in a smaller total output. Hence the community as a whole will be worse off," he said.

However, the Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank, maintains that "there remains little to no evidence that workers’ wages are causing today’s high inflation."

Taiwan plans to extend conscription due to China threat

''"China's expansion continues to impact the international order, threatens regional peace and stability, and affects cross-strait relations," the Taiwanese president said.''

Taiwan announced Tuesday plans to extend its compulsory military service for men from four months to one year due to rising threats from China.

"China's expansion continues to impact the international order, threatens regional peace and stability, and affects cross-strait relations," Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen said at a press conference, as translated.

Men over the age of 18 have been required to serve four months in Taiwan's military, including five weeks of basic training, since 2013. Before this, conscripts served up to two years. Starting in 2024, service members will be required to serve for a year with eight weeks of basic training, The Guardian reported.

Under the new plan, the monthly salary of conscription soldiers will quadruple from $211 to $856.

"Only by preparing for war can we avoid war," Tsai said.

China began holding drills in Taiwan's waters and even held joint military exercises with Russia in August. Chinese President Xi Jinping has vowed to reunify the self-governing island nation with the Communist country. Chief of U.S. Naval Operations Adm. Mike Gilday in October warned that China may invade Taiwan within months.

Nostradamus’ predictions for 2023: World War III, Death of monarchy, arrival of Antichrist

Nostradamus’ predictions for 2023 included World war III, the death of the monarchy, and the arrival of the antichrist. The 16th Century astrologer Nostradamus had a knack for predicting doomsday forecasts.

Nostradamus’ predictions for 2023 included World war III, death of monarchy, arrival of Antichrist

The plague doctor is credited with predicting the Great Fire of London, the rise of Hitler, the September 11 attacks, and the COVID 19 pandemic. His predictions tend towards flame and tragedy, occasionally hitting the mark but more frequently than not missing it.

Known as the “prophet of doom,” Nostradamus’s grim worldview is said to have been formed by hefty doses of the old testament and the anguish of losing his wife and young children to disease, likely the plague. It appears that after failing to save those he cared about the most, he set out to alert the rest of us through his discoveries of destruction.

According to Nostradamus, “Celestial fire on the Royal edifice” will fall in the year 2023. If interpreted literally, this could imply that a meteor is flying directly for Buckingham Palace and will eventually burn it down. In a more figurative sense, Harry and Meghan Markle have used a new type of firepower to light up and destroy the reputation of the royal family as we know it. They recently produced a “bombshell” Netflix series outlining the sinister acts carried out against them by the crown.

Nos predicted a great war and the arrival of the Antichrist

Nostradamus predicts that “Seven months great war, people dead through evil,” will engulf the entire earth in 2023. This might apply to the catastrophic conflict in Ukraine, which has so far been defined by war crimes and a high number of civilian fatalities, although coming a little late to the firefight. Vladimir Putin comes quite close to personifying the “evil” that Nostradamus attributes to him as a hate monger and death dealer.

The prophecy predicts that in the coming year, the struggle would intensify into a full-fledged world war, which, considering the nuclear arsenals at risk, might result in apocalyptic levels of devastation.

According to Nos, “The antichrist very soon annihilates the three. Twenty-seven years his war will last. The unbelievers are dead, captive, and exiled. With blood, human bodies, water, and red hail covering the earth.”

We only hope these prophecies don’t come true.

The Palestinian Authority has long supported the Palestinian Martyrs Fund, awarding a pension to the family of any terrorist killed or imprisoned in the course of their heinous acts. This pay-to-slay program meant American aid to the PA was used to reward acts of terror. (2/5)

We put a stop to that with the Taylor Force Act. As long as the Martyr’s Fund existed, not one single American dollar went to the PA. As I detail in my new book - Never Give an Inch - we made many common-sense moves to protect Americans and stand with our ally, Israel. (3/5)

In 2022, President Biden announced America would once again be sending aid to the Palestinian Authority. The Administration sent nearly half a million this past year.

Biden did this despite his own State Department affirming in October that the Martyrs Fund still exists. (4/5)

Giving money to the PA is beyond foolish and unlawful. The Trump Administration achieved historic peace – across the Middle East – by standing firmly with Israel and opposing Iran and the PA. Biden will only encourage more suffering by funding Palestinian terror. (5/5)
