Lithuania, EU, UK Team Up to Train More Ukrainian Soldiers in 2023

The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense has confirmed it will provide additional military training for Ukrainian troops amid the Russian invasion.

Approved by parliament, the aid will hone the skills of nearly 1,500 Ukrainian soldiers. Around 1,100 personnel will receive training in Lithuania.

As part of the program, 40 Lithuanian instructors will lead the training under the European Union Military Assistance Mission of Ukraine.

Another 25 Lithuanian instructors will work under the British-led Operation Interflex training to be held in the UK.

The program will commence in 2023 and is expected to train approximately 15,000 Ukrainian warfighters.

Maintaining Support for Ukraine

According to the ministry, the approval further supports the Lithuanian National Military Training Operation launched in 2017.

Under this initiative, Lithuanian military instructors are allowed to train foreign armed forces from EU and NATO members in their respective territories.

The operation is managed by a maximum of 60 military and civilian personnel of the Lithuanian National Defence System.

“Allied efforts to provide more support to Ukraine with military training are increasing, new assistance to Ukraine missions are launched,” Lithuanian Defence Minister Arvydas Anušauskas stated.

“Lithuania will contribute actively to them because our security depends on Ukraine’s security. We will support Ukraine until it wins and when that happens, we will train their troops further.”

Kanye West missing? Ex-business manager can’t find rapper to serve him lawsuit

Wild rumors are swirling that the artist now known as Ye is “missing” — as his ex-business manager tries to serve him with a $4.5 million lawsuit, the US Sun reports.

Thomas St. John, who is suing the erratic “Gold Digger” rapper and his company Yeezy over alleged unpaid fees, told a court he has also been unable to find a proper address for Ye.

The rumors about the 45-year-old mogul’s whereabouts began to spread after a tweet sent by Daily Loud, who wrote: “Kanye West has reportedly been missing and unable to find [sic] for weeks according to his ex-business manager.”

According to documents obtained by the news outlet, St. John on Dec. 19 sought an extension until the end of March to serve the lawsuit.

The former business manager also has reportedly been unable to reach Ye’s legal team.

“We were advised about a new law firm for defendants, but not a specific point of contact,” the court filing cited by the US Sun states.

“We subsequently learned of information in the news that the law firm identified as new counsel was not affiliated with the defendants. Accordingly, we have not been able to serve defendants through their counsel,” the document reportedly says.

“As a general matter, we have had difficulty confirming the best current address of Kanye West,” it continues.

“For Mr. West, despite our diligent efforts, we were unable to ascertain his current residential address, and therefore, have not yet made attempts to serve him personally. Instead, we have attempted to service him by mail at multiple possible addresses,” the filing adds, according to the outlet.

A startup says it’s begun releasing particles into the atmosphere, in an effort to tweak the climate

A startup claims it has launched weather balloons that may have released reflective sulfur particles in the stratosphere, potentially crossing a controversial barrier in the field of solar geoengineering.

Geoengineering refers to deliberate efforts to manipulate the climate by reflecting more sunlight back into space, mimicking a natural process that occurs in the aftermath of large volcanic eruptions. In theory, spraying sulfur and similar particles in sufficient quantities could potentially ease global warming.

It’s not technically difficult to release such compounds into the stratosphere. But scientists have mostly (though not entirely) refrained from carrying out even small-scale outdoor experiments. And it’s not clear that any have yet injected materials into that specific layer of the atmosphere in the context of geoengineering-related research.

That’s in part because it’s highly controversial. Little is known about the real-world effect of such deliberate interventions at large scales, but they could have dangerous side effects. The impacts could also be worse in some regions than others, which could provoke geopolitical conflicts.

Ohana becomes first gay Knesset Speaker as Netanyahu retakes office

Amir Ohana thanked his husband, Alon, for supporting him during his first speech as Knesset Speaker.

The 37th Government of Israel was sworn in on Thursday afternoon in a 63-54 vote, the sixth of its already longest-serving prime minister, Likud chairman Benjamin Netanyahu.

The government includes 30 ministers including Netanyahu, just four of whom are women.

16 out of the ministers are from the Likud, including Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, Justice Minister Yariv Levin, Foreign Minister Eli Cohen and Education Minister Yoav Kisch.

Five ministers are from Shas – including chairman Aryeh Deri, who is both Health and Interior Minister, Religious Affairs Minister Michael Malkieli and Labor and Social Services Minister Ya'acov Margi.

There are three ministers each from the Religious Zionist Party (RZP) and Otzma Yehudit, including RZP chairman Bezalel Smotrich as Finance Minister and Otzma's Itamar Ben Gvir as National Security Minister.

Two ministers are from United Torah Judaism – chairman Yizhak Goldknopf is Housing and Construction Minister, and Meir Porush is Jerusalem and Tradition Minister – the new name for what used to be the Jerusalem and Heritage Ministry. The Heritage Ministry was broken off and given to Otzma's Amichai Eliyahu.

Finally, former Israeli ambassador to the US, Ron Dermer, is Strategic Affairs Minister. He is the only minister who did not participate in the election.

Netanyahu announced after he had already presented the government to the Knesset that the Likud's Gila Gamliel will serve as Intelligence Minister pending the Knesset's approval at the next plenum meeting on Monday. This means the government will grow to 31 ministers, five of whom will be women.

'Pfizer and Moderna better get this clarified': Study finds worse antibodies after mRNA boosters

A new peer-reviewed study is raising concerns that a third dose of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines may actually worsen immune response against COVID-19, creating waves in both mainstream and heterodox COVID circles.

Published in Science Immunology last week, the study by German researchers found that mRNA boosting induced a high level of so-called IgG4 antibodies, a subclass known for prompting a mild immune response, in two cohorts of several dozen healthcare workers.

The "shift" to this IgG subclass was "not seen with adenovirus vector vaccines" in the study, Scripps Research Translational Institute Director Eric Topol, who was not involved in the research, tweeted while cautioning that "clinical significance is not known."

"Pfizer and Moderna better get this clarified," California gastroenterologist Farid Jalali, who once pressured the FDA to fast-track COVID vaccines for infants, wrote in response to Topol before marking his account private.

The research is just the latest to prompt scrutiny of federal vaccine recommendations and ongoing professional and educational mandates, particularly for college students, a demographic with low COVID risks but elevated risks of post-jab heart inflammation.

The CDC still recommends everyone 6 months and older receive a full series and booster of the original Wuhan strain vaccine, topped off with the new bivalent Wuhan-Omicron booster, regardless of COVID risk level or likelihood of adverse reactions.

The agency's own research has found superior protection against reinfection from natural immunity when compared to mRNA vaccines as well as low bivalent effectiveness against symptomatic infection, to the point where two doses protect better than three.
