Reddit really is, in many ways, the front page of the web. Its the middle of the bell curve for comfy conversations. Twitter is giving it a run, but the chans? The chans have always been for a much more particular crowd. Most chan users saw Reddit for the bullshit popular vote site that it is. Reddit is the absolute king at reinforcing cognitive dissonance, and the chans, this place in particular, challenges all that. People don't like to be challenged in their beliefs. They like to be agreed with and only engage in debate they know they can win with higher vote counts "proving" they are right.
Reddit is cancer, but it's a slow growing, tolerable one with the occasional interesting content and decent coding advice.
