"Former president Bill Clinton is personally in contact with the company to organize its logistical and support needs," added Tabernacki. "[InnoVida board member] Wesley Clark is arranging for military transport of the initial structural panels. Steven Green (former CEO of Samsonite Corporation and former ambassador to Singapore) will provide barge space on ocean vessels, when necessary, to ship the factory components. And secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, has made available State Department resources to assist with logistical arrangements."

While the crux of the article is on cigarettes, illicitly traded goods covers a lot of other things potentially…

At the center of this case is a hidden bit of history, say prosecutors, of how tobacco smuggling became a state enterprise in Montenegro, a Balkan republic in southeastern Europe bordering Serbia and the Adriatic Sea. Home to just 600,000 people, the country is smaller than Israel and is known for its scenic coastline. But it is also known for its smuggling routes through the heart of the Balkans, which, during the breakup of the former Yugoslavia, allowed organized crime to thrive. Italian authorities noted as much in the DIA report. “Montenegro, for a decade, was the real Tortuga of the Adriatic sea,” they wrote, comparing the Balkan state to a Caribbean island notorious for its pirates. “A heaven for illicit trafficking; impunity granted to mobsters … a place where authorities guaranteed the passage of illicitly traded goods.” And investigators left no doubt who they thought was behind the billion-dollar racket: “Milo Djukanovic ruled this Tortuga.”

USVI Attorney General Denise N. George fired

https://www.virginislandsnewsonline.com/en/news/usvi-attorney-general-denise-n-george-fired

Attorney General of the US Virgin Islands (USVI) Denise N. George was terminated on Saturday, December 31, 2022, after serving four years with the Bryan administration, the Consortium can confirm.

The decision by Governor Albert A. Bryan Jr to fire the AG came just days after Bloomberg News revealed that Ms George in her capacity as [US] VI Attorney General had filed a lawsuit against JPMorgan Chase — the largest bank in the United States and the world's largest bank by market capitalisation— without first informing Governor Bryan of such a major action, said a person with knowledge of the matter.

The lawsuit claims JPMorgan Chase facilitated convicted felon Jeffrey E. Epstein's abuse of women and girls, alleging that the bank should have known about Epstein’s illegal activity and as part of its anti-money laundering procedures, should have reported their client to authorities.

George accused the bank of turning a blind eye to the sex trafficking operations that went on on Epstein’s private island in the USVI, Little St James.

JP Morgan as of Thursday, December 29, 2022, had not yet commented on the lawsuit, however, reports from a source to the Guardian newspaper are that the disgraced financier’s relationship with the bank ended “long before his ongoing misconduct became known."

People familiar with the situation said Mr Bryan had been frustrated with Ms George for sometime and that her action against the bank was the final straw.
