Ukraine announced Wednesday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had a video teleconference with BlackRock Chief Executive Officer Larry Fink. The pair apparently struck a deal to coordinate investment efforts to rebuild the war-torn nation.

A readout of the meeting on the Ukrainian president’s website boasted BlackRock’s involvement, calling the firm “one of the world’s leading investment managers” and noted that it “manages client assets worth about 8 trillion dollars.”

“Zelenskyy and Larry Fink agreed to focus in the near term on coordinating the efforts of all potential investors and participants in the reconstruction of our country, channelling investment into the most relevant and impactful sectors of the Ukrainian economy,” the readout claimed.

Trudeau Liberals exceed immigration goals, increase to 500,000 by 2025

Trudeau's immigration minister said that Ottawa was planning to welcome 431,645 new immigrants, a goal that has been reached, surpassing the previous year's record of more than 401,000.

Canada set a new immigration record for 2022, welcoming more than 430,000 newcomers into the country, Trudeau's Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Sean Fraser, said on Tuesday.

Ottawa intended to welcome 431,645, a goal that has been reached, surpassing the previous year's record of more than 401,000 immigrants.

"Today marks an important milestone for Canada, setting a new record for newcomers welcomed in a single year," Fraser said. "It is a testament to the strength and resilience of our country and its people."

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) processed approximately 5.2 million permanent residency applications in 2022, more than double the number from 2021.

Canada's goal for 2023 is 465,000 immigrants, increasing to 485,000 in 2024, then 500,000 in 2025, with an emphasis to be placed on skilled workers.

To help facilitate this steady increase, the Trudeau government's fall budget committed an additional $50 million to the IRCC for the 2022-23 fiscal year in order to "address ongoing application backlogs, speed up processing, and allow skilled newcomers to fill critical labour gaps faster."

"Newcomers play an essential role in filling labour shortages, bringing new perspectives and talents to our communities, and enriching our society as a whole," Fraser said. "I am excited to see what the future holds and look forward to another historic year in 2023 as we continue to welcome newcomers."

The Liberals cited immigration as the reason for Canada having "experienced one of the fastest recoveries from the pandemic," adding that the acute labour shortages the country is facing will be helped by immigration.

"We know there is over a million jobs in Canada that remain unfilled, so we need immigrants, skilled immigrants, to come in and help us fill those unfilled jobs and help us grow our economy," Housing Minister Ahmed Hussen told Global News. "In addition to that, the irony is we actually need more people, skilled immigrants, to also help us in the building trades and the construction sector of our economy."

"We need those workers to actually come in and help us build the housing that Canadians need," he added.

104 employees were placed on unpaid leave last January for failing to provide proof of vaccination to the municipal administration. This was to comply with the mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy.

After what the city calls a “grace period” wherein some employees placed on leave were coerced into complying with the vaccination policy, 84 did not.

According to a statement provided to CBC News by Dana Paladino, acting human resources manager for the city, she expects that bygones are bygones, and the medical discrimination can be just water under the Ambassador Bridge:

Young Canadian Reporter Suffers Medical Emergency Live on Air (VIDEO)

On Sunday, a young journalist from Canada was in the middle of a live broadcast when she suddenly experienced a medical emergency.

Jessica Robb, who was reporting on the scene for the Canadian news station CTV, started slurring, going blank on words, and looked like she was about to collapse live during the live broadcast while she was in the middle of a dialogue with the anchor Nahreman Issa. CTV immediately cut the program.

CTV Edmonton released a statement following the medical distress of one of their reporters.

“Thanks to everyone who inquired about our reporter who became ill during the 6 p.m. News. Jessica Robb is feeling better and is now resting,” CTV tweeted.

Jessica Robb issued a statement before going private with her account.

“I won’t bury the lede: l’m okay. Thank you to everyone who has reached [out], my cameraman [Sean McClune] for being there for me, & [Nahreman Issa] for being an absolute pro (as usual),” Robb wrote.

Social media users found it suspicious that she suddenly made her Twitter profile private.

Her COVID vaccination was widely suspected by social media users to be the cause of her sudden illness.

Back in April, Robb tweeted that she was thankful she received her third shot of the COVID vaccine after she got infected with Covid.

“Consider this my official out of (the physical) office. Feeling very lucky to be vaxxed ×3 & that I started isolating as soon as symptoms started,” she wrote.
