The Trump family has signed a licensing deal with the Saudi developer behind a massive $1.6 billion hotel and golf project in Oman.

It means the Trump name will adorn the resort and villas being built on a hillside next to the Gulf of Oman in the sort of deal that was a huge source of revenue for the Trump Organization before Donald Trump became president.

And it comes as the former president has stoked massive expectation that he will launch a run for the White House when he makes a 'big announcement' at his Mar-a-Lago home on Tuesday evening.

The family business agreed not to pursue international deals when Trump was at the White House and on Monday a New York judge appointed a monitor to oversee some aspects of the company while an investigation into business practices continues.

The Trump Organization confirmed the deal with Saudi developer Dar Al Arkan but did not say how much it was worth to the company.

'It is an honor to work with Dar Al Arkan, who share our vision for superior quality and excellence,' it said in a statement to the New York Times.

'This will be a truly magnificent project that integrates luxury living and world-class hospitality at the highest levels.'

The Trump family has signed a licensing deal with the Saudi developer behind a massive $1.6 billion hotel and golf project in Oman, including 3,500 residential units

The project's website describes a 'charming mixed-use development project' on hilltops 300 feet above the shores of Muscat.

'A place where the earthy atmosphere envelops 3,500 residential units consisting of medium-sized villas, townhouses, and low-rise apartments,' it says.

'A place where two charming hotels, a plaza filled with cafes and restaurants, a gated promenade, luxury retail and wellness centers, and gorgeous outdoor landscapes await.'

The Trump family steered clear of any allegations of conflicts of interest by avoiding international deals when Donald Trump was president.

And it has been slow to negotiate new deals amid a welter of investigations.
