Something I never understood about Jacob and Esau. Jacob seems to believe that he deceived Esau into giving up his birthright, but it seems to me as though Esau wasn't particularly concerned with owning it in the first place.
I'm picturing a hierarchy where the strongest person is on top, and largely because nobody is stronger than them they're perfectly happy just letting everyone bellow them have free will. The first person bellow them, however, has the strength to dominate everyone bellow them, but they're constantly paranoid that the stronger person above them will change their mind and take it all away. So they plot and scheme and convince themselves that they truly own the top spot somehow, when the reality is that they actually do deserve to rule, not because they're the strongest but rather because they're the one that wants it the most.
