The way forward?

Unfortunately it is to follow (((their))) play book.

Anon gets on city council.

Spouse anon gets on school board.

Cousin anon get in LEO.

Fren anon get into law.

Etc.

It is a generational change that needs to happen. Unfortunately, the kind of people who would best respect others rights in these positions have no interest in playing in those dirty fields but that's how we lost the nation in the first place.
