Because, as anons are explaining, they have to do damage control. All the dirty money from abroad flowed through Coke-Head and Pedo Peter. They were the clearinghouse for all the dirty shit that happened. All the financial records in Peter's closet will hang everybody in the Sotero gang.
They're desperate to get out of the country before being arrested, but they missed their chance yesterday. Somebody tried to run, or a group of somebodies, and they couldn't because of the FAA shutdown. So, now they have to throw PEDOTUS on the pyre to save themselves.
But it won't work, and they're all fucked. The ones still holding office may try to throw Sotero into the pyre too, to save themselves, making him the first arrest.
