Indiana is installing boxes in which newborns can be anonymously surrendered, usually at a fire station. Baby boxes have seen a surge in use, and more are planned as Indiana moves to ban abortions.
As more states pass abortion bans, another option for those who give birth after an unwanted pregnancy is growing. Built into the side of fire stations or hospitals, baby boxes allow infants to be surrendered anonymously. From member station WFYI, Jill Sheridan reports on how Indiana leads the baby box effort.

The document reportedly says the world is on the verge of tectonic changes
The Israeli Ministry of Intelligence has prepared a report warning thatthe world is standing on the precipice of a transition to a new global arrangement, the Jerusalem Post newspaper revealed on Monday. The document is being touted as Israel’s first ever national intelligence estimate report.
The world will soon face “a series of crises striking simultaneously [that] will reorder the planet’s geopolitics, the place of technology, the economic order and a variety of other disciplines from health to energy,” according to the document. Among Israel’s advantages, the ministry reportedly listed the county’s newfound energy resilience, thanks to the discovery of large offshore natural gas deposits.
A team of eight experts formulated recommendations on how the Israeli government could steer the nation through the turmoil and pursue its strategic geopolitical goals, the Post said. Israel will need to carefully balance good relations with the US, with ties to Russia and China, which Washington treats as rivals, the experts are said to have warned.
The US accuses the two other nations of undermining the so-called “rules-based order” and wants all of its allies onboard with its strategy for opposing Moscow and Beijing. Israel, despite having a decades-old alliance with Washington, has not been as enthusiastic as some other nations.
China is expected to sign a free trade deal with Israel in the near future, a first for the Middle East region. Israel has also declined to impose sweeping economic sanctions against Russia over the Ukraine conflict, and has demurred on Kiev’s requests for advanced weapons systems.
The intelligence recommendations were unveiled on Monday during a closed conference attended by senior Israeli defense and intelligence officials, the Jerusalem Post reported.
The outlet said former IDF intelligence chief Amos Yadlin commented on Israel’s long-standing conflict with regional arch-nemesis Iran, stating that Tehran has found itself isolated following Israel’s US-brokered reconciliation with some Arab nations.
Intelligence Ministry Director-General Alex Dan said the new estimate report is focused on a ten-year outlier limit and is different from previous products by his department, which looked 20 years ahead, according to the Post. Intelligence Minister Elazar Stern reportedly noted that his office sought to “help shape” the future landscape rather than simply survey it.

Really, you can just look and say, what was the birth rate last year? How many kids were born? Multiply that by the life expectancy and say, okay, that's how many people will be alive in the future. And then say, is the trend for birth rate positive or negative? It's negative. So that's the best case, unless something changes with the birth rate. You can look at, take Japan, for example, I think I'm just going off memory here, but I think the population is roughly, but last year, if you take the number of children born times the life expectancy, which is 85 years, it's very impressive life expectancy. Then Japan would have, I think around 68 million people, roughly half of the current population. That does not tell the full story because those that, you would have an upside down demographic permit. You already have an upside down demographic permit where, you know, a lot of old people, very few young people and houses, the upside down demographic permit is unstable. That's also here why we need alternatives. You have recently presented Optimus, human Robert, and you shared great expectations, what that could do for the world. Yeah. Could you explain a little bit your motivation? I assume it's not only about the first visit to Mars that could be done by Optimus. It is more than that. A game changer in AI. The rate of advancement of AI is very rapid. Concretely, Optimus is going to be used in Tesla factories. That's one of the use cases. But what is the broader use case beyond Tesla? Yeah. Optimus is a general purpose work. The initial roles for Optimus would be in work that is repetitive, boring, dangerous, that kind of thing. Basically work that people don't want to do unless they'll pay to do it. Why has Optimus two legs? Just because it looks like a human being or is it more practical? I thought four legs are better. Four legs good, two legs bad. It reminds me of oil. Humanity has designed the world to interact with a bipedal humanoid with two arms and ten fingers. So if you want to have a robot fit in and be able to do things that humans can do, it must be roughly the same size and shape and capability.
