One significant factor is the victim approach, and having another to "blame" for one's one failures. Muh Patriarchy and such.
Sure there is some validity to the oppression (more simply hierarchies of oppression, matriarchies do it in their own way), but majority is projecting blame and avoiding their own fears and insecurities.
