His 2016 votes (63 million) vs. his 2020 votes (73 million), despite unprecedented attacks and weaponized media, is the most important metric of them all. It showed that the information control structures of the past were inadequate at best. For 2024, Trump needs the GOP-led House to achieve two key objectives:
They have to prove Jan 6 was an entrapment scheme incited by left-wing activists (John Nichols) and DHS informants (Ray Epps), etc. They can do this pretty quickly since people like Darren Beattie are making the rounds and crowd sourcing investigations.
They have to validate Trump’s claims that the 2020 election was stolen. Maybe this and #1 are related. Either way, there’s more than enough evidence to make this happen. I’m just not sure how they’re going to go about it.
McCarthy has a lot on his plate, but the two items above must be addressed before 2024 season starts ramping up, so the clock’s ticking here. So if I were conducting reconnaissance and trying to forecast events, I would look to these two things as being high priority targets.
