NPCsare really asleep and there's no point in blaming them for their condition. That's like blaming someone for being dreaming the wrong dream. Some will awaken slowly, others will forever be NPCs.
We've always had NPCs. Most people didn't even have surnames until a few centuries ago. We were all bought and sold with the land we were born on, and if you look it in the eye, that is still the case today.
We buy what cult advertising tells us, the only uncontrolled information we ever see comes from the natural world, which most NPCs never look at. Because Netflix, or YT or some other cult tarbaby has entangled us in the fake causes, fake effects, fake news and fake interpretations.
