Randolph County deputies, the SBI, and the FBI are investigating after EnergyUnited officials reported damage to their substation on Post Road in Thomasville. The VP tells me crews found multiple bullet holes. Crews will be here for several days to make repairs.
The vice president also tells me this is the first substation within his system to be damaged by gunfire, although he has seen a rise in the number of these incidents across the U.S. He says the estimated damage could be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
This comes after a substation in Moore County, North Carolina was also damaged by gunfire in December. This incident had left more than 40,000 outages in the area.
