I did genealogy for few years and I never had people disappear from influenza in the census. Babies died suddenly but no adults in my line. I also followed collateral lines and they were mostly complete. Where were all these people dying?

I did this for friends and their lines were also intact.

Another misnomer was marrying young. With few exceptions most waited until they were adults before marrying.

I didn't just follow my direct line. I followed collateral lines. Siblings and their lines. If you do the research long enough you see things. Their were some die offs occasionally but it was mostly babies. Mortality rates for babies were higher then.
