The only reason that human society is capable of existing is because humans are able to make judgments on when to follow the rules and when to bend them. The system is far too massive and complex to function be properly managed exclusively by a set of arbitrary and rigid rules, and yet as inflexible machines increasingly take over decision making roles this is exactly the situation that is emerging.
