Hi Elevated Ed | Is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
It is imperative that our nation, especially our educational community, embrace its cultural diversity in all its aspects. While many educational communities have talked about justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and antiracism, we believe that many of these educational spaces have only touched the surface of what needs to be addressed to truly make a difference. Our mission at Elevated Ed is to prove that in order to increase student achievement and understand students with various cultural identities and experiences, we as educators must be willing to step into a space of discomfort and identify the origin of our prejudices (intentional or unintentional). Elevated Ed especially focuses on three main areas: Teacher Knowledge and Skill Development, JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion), and Joy. We hope that our business will help educators to understand the importance of honoring all students’ identities, and how these identities can be leveraged in the classroom to support student achievement.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Focused on taking the learning experiences of students to an elevated level of engagement and achievement, Elevated Ed prides itself on its ability and dedication to coach, train, and support school and community members on equity-based strategies that promote student success. We operate in the trifecta of theory, practice, and equity. Culture centers our work with stakeholders, highlighting each partner’s individuality, identity, and inclusivity. Therefore, we illustrate to our partners how to leverage a student’s identity and culture when bridging the gap between what theory says should be happening and what practice shows what is actually happening. We’ve taken this utopian world and made it a reality. This trifecta-approach is how we have built a successful educational consulting firm that reaches beyond the borders of Atlanta, Ga. While our understanding of identity and culture has allowed us to train educators and community leaders nationally, it has not been an easy feat. Since incorporating, our biggest barrier has been receiving buy-in from potential partners with the current political push to “ban Critical Race Theory” in public schools. We had to show that race acceptance and acknowledgement is not the issue. The issue is the erasure. When society erases a group of people’s history, identity, and culture to maintain the status quo of another’s, it shows students that they don’t matter. Elevated Ed has had to weather the tumultuous oppositions while disrupting this notion of erasure. Yet, founders Drs. Bostic and North have slayed each dragon along the way. They believe in ALL students and that EACH one of them has a place and right to express their uniqueness through all learning experiences. The students are the reason we push through and continue the hard work. YES! It is hard work. But seeing the success in the students we touch through their teachers and community leaders, hearing the excitement of the teachers we coach when they’ve “reached that difficult student”, and the requests to “teach us MORE” all make it worth the long nights, early mornings, and caffeine-run meetings. We do this for the CULTURE. Elevated Ed is a company FOR US, BY US.
