Sam Bankman-Fried’s two anonymous sponsors put up $700K to get him out of jail
Sam Bankman-Fried was released on bond after two anonymous individuals put up a total of $700,000, according to court filings.
Bankman-Fried, the disgraced former crypto mogul whose FTX exchange declared bankruptcy in November, has been under house arrest in his parents’ $4 million Palo Alto, Calif., home since last month.
He was released from federal custody in Manhattan on a $250 million bond after being extradited from the Bahamas to face fraud and money laundering charges in connection with the collapse of FTX.
As part of the terms of his release, one of his sponsors posted $500,000 bail while the other chipped in $200,000, according to court papers seen by the news site Insider. The identity of the two individuals remains secret at the request of Bankman-Fried’s attorneys who say that publicizing their names could pose a security risk.
Christian Everdell, one of Bankman-Fried’s lawyers, revealed the size of the contributions so that the federal judge overseeing the case — US District Judge Lewis Kaplan — would include them in the bail condition documents, according to Insider.

Elizabeth Holmes tried ‘to flee’ to Mexico after conviction, prosecutors say
Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes made an “attempt to flee the country” last year with a one-way ticket to Mexico after she was convicted of defrauding investors who backed her bogus blood-testing company, prosecutors said in a court filing.
Holmes, 38, was found guilty of fraud last January, and later that month, prosecutors sounded the alarm after learning she bought a Jan. 26 plane ticket to Mexico without a scheduled return trip, according to the filing.
“Only after the government raised this unauthorized flight with defense counsel was the trip canceled,” the filing says, according to CNN.
In the new filing, prosecutors argue that Holmes, who’s been living in luxury at a $13,000 per month estate as she appeals her conviction, should finally begin serving her 135-month sentence.
“The incentive to flee has never been higher,” prosecutors said, and Holmes “has the means to act on that incentive.”
Holmes’ attorney responded to prosecutors in an email and claimed that the plane ticket was purchased before the verdict for a friend’s wedding in Mexico, according to the filing. The attorney said that Holmes was hopeful that she would be found innocent and be able to attend the event.
A federal judge had ordered Holmes, who is pregnant with her second child, to begin serving her sentence on April 27.
Attorneys for Holmes have argued that she should be allowed to remain free on bail during her appeal because it will raise “substantial issues” about her case that could lead to a new trial.

Emotional Nancy Pelosi reveals husband Paul is not ‘back to normal’ after hammer attack
Rep. Nancy Pelosi choked back tears while discussing her husband’s prolonged recovery from a brutal hammer attack last fall, saying it could take months before he is “back to normal.”
The former House speaker, 82, opened up about Paul Pelosi’s condition during an appearance on “Who’s Talking To Chris Wallace?”
“He’s doing OK,” Pelosi (D-Calif.) told Wallace after the veteran newsman asked how her husband was doing. “It’s going to take a little while for him to be back to normal.”
Paul Pelosi, also 82, was alone at the family’s San Francisco home early Oct. 28 when conspiracy theorist David DePape, 42, allegedly forced his way into the residence and asked after Nancy Pelosi’s whereabouts.
Prosecutors said DePape then bludgeoned Paul Pelosi with a hammer before being arrested. The alleged assailant purportedly told investigators that he planned to “hold Nancy hostage,” interrogate her, and “break her kneecaps” if he felt she was lying to him.
Paul Pelosi sustained a fractured skull and serious injuries to his right arm and hands, which required surgery.
In her sit-down with Wallace, a visibly emotional Nancy Pelosi said she feels “very sad” about what happened, “because [DePape] was searching for me, and my dear husband, who’s not even that political, actually, paid the price.”
Nancy and Paul Pelosi were seen in public together for the first time since the assault when they attended the Kennedy Center Honors on Dec. 4. The tuxedo-clad Paul Pelosi wore a wide-brimmed black hat and a glove on his uninjured left hand.
Paul Pelosi also showed up this week for a White House event honoring the NBA champion Golden State Warriors and received a shout-out from President Biden.

Disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes is living a life of luxury in a $13,000-per-month estate while appealing her conviction on various fraud charges, the feds said in a court filing.
Prosecutors said Holmes, 38, “continues to show no remorse” for her actions at the doomed blood-testing startup after being sentenced to more than 11 years in prison last November. Holmes was convicted of defrauding investors by lying about Theranos’ technology.
A federal judge ordered Holmes, who is pregnant with her second child, to begin serving her sentence on April 27.
Attorneys for Holmes have argued that she should be allowed to remain free on bail during her appeal because it will raise “substantial issues” about her case that could lead to a new trial.
However, the feds said the “time has come” for Holmes to report to prison.

What’s in here, Joe? Beat-up box of ‘Important Doc’s’ was out in open at Joe Biden’s house, laptop reveals
This can’t really be where Joe Biden kept classified documents he took from the White House — or can it?
A box labeled “Important Doc’s + Photos” was left unsealed on a table ahead of a child’s birthday party in the Delaware home where the 80-year-old president has been discovered to have stashed sensitive government records, a photo from his son’s laptop, discovered by The Post Friday reveals.
Another image on the infamous laptop reveals that Hunter Biden apparently made more than 160 trips to the sprawling, lakeside house in just 52 days during the same time he was involved in controversial business dealings with a Chinese energy conglomerate — and while the home contained the discovered classified documents.
During one visit, the first son — who has a history of drug and alcohol addictions — texted “Mom,” aka first lady Jill Biden, hours after midnight and asked “R u awake.”
“Open the door plz” he added at 2:37 a.m. on March 8, 2017, according to a screenshot of the exchange.
After she responded, “Ok,” Hunter Biden wrote back, “My key fell off in the house. Ughhh I’m sorry.”
Three days later, on March 11, 2017, Hunter Biden, 52, documented the preparations for his namesake nephew’s birthday party at his parents’ secluded, six-bedroom house in Wilmington, Del.
The event took place a little more than a week after Page Six exclusively revealed that the troubled first son was having an affair with his widowed sister-in-law, Hallie Biden, following the death of his brother, Beau Biden, from brain cancer in 2015.
A screenshot of text messages shows Hunter Biden invited the three daughters he shares with his wife to the party “at nana/pops.”
He was rebuffed, however, by the youngest, Maisy Biden, who wrote, “We are not ready to see adults yet.”
Images from Hunter Biden’s laptop show an array of family photos spread out on a dining table surrounded by chairs hours before the gathering, as well as a white cardboard file box with brown packing tape on it.
But the lid — which was covered with the words “Important Doc’s + Photos” written in black — had been opened and was ajar in the shot Hunter Biden snapped.
