Thank you for sharing. The only thing I could personally relate to were the snakes. My mom was a cowgirl from New Mexico and when we were young we'd go visit her family on the ranch. And my parents and aunts/uncles would load up all the kids (cousins – 16 of us) on horseback w/camping supplies and send us off into the canyon for the weekend. The oldest two boys were given pistols to shoot if we ran into trouble but also to kill rattlesnakes b/c pack and trail horses are apt to get bitten. So of course every rattler was shot. Then we'd cut off the rattle for a souvenir.
