Biden's Theft of Classified Docs Is Serious. DOJ Isn't Taking It Seriously

Garland should have immediately appointed a special counsel, on November 2, to investigate Biden's mishandling of classified documents. Instead, 16 days later, on November 18, Garland appointed a special counsel to investigate Trump for the non-crime of lawfully taking personal copies of his presidential records when he left the White House. For two months, then, Garland led a political cover-up—yes, a cover-up—of Biden's criminal theft of classified records. Instead of sending in the FBI to investigate, as he did with Trump in a high-profile, unprecedented, unnecessary, and unlawful home raid last August, Garland shockingly allowed Biden's personal, unvetted attorneys to taint the Biden crime scene for months on end.

As a matter of clarity, let's contrast Biden's theft of classified documents with Trump's lawful handling of presidential records. As the commander-in-chief under our Constitution, the president of the United States has the absolute power to declassify records as he sees fit. In addition, under the Presidential Records Act, a departing president can take a personal copy of any of his presidential records—classified or not. The vice president is afforded neither of these privileges.

This alarming situation deserves a robust investigation of who was able to access the documents, when they were able to access them, and how someone who isn't legally allowed to possess this material did so recklessly for years on end without setting off any alarm bells within the intelligence community. Anything less would show a lack of seriousness toward the issue at hand and reveal that those in power are more interested in punishing regime enemies than protecting our national security.

This is a big test for Special Counsel Robert Hur, a longtime Deep State lawyer who Garland scrambled to appoint to handle this matter when his two-month cover-up of Biden's crimes became public. If Hur continues to allow Biden's personal attorneys to taint Biden's national security crime scenes and doesn't immediately send in the FBI to conduct a real investigation, including searching Biden's homes and offices and at least interviewing Joe, Jill, Hunter, and James, that tells us all we need to know.

In “Anesthetizing ourselves to death” (The Washington Times, Jan. 16), Seth Leibsohn writes that drug poisoning deaths in the United States have increased by over 2,000% over the past two decades. We now have over 106,000 people dying each year because of the progressive lie that recreational drug use is harmless.

“To sense the scale of this crisis,” Mr. Leibsohn says, “consider the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington. There are about 58,000 names on that wall, and it took some 16 years to amass those souls that constitute that long, dark [image]. At the rate we are now going, we are nearly doubling in death every year what that sad wall represents from over the course of 16 years.”

Then there’s Vijay Jayaraj’s column “‘Greens’ Ignore India’s Lethal Cold Spells” (published likewise here in The Washington Times on Jan. 12). In this column, Mr. Jayaraj states that “cold, which is often accompanied by disease, is a bigger killer than heat.”

He continues, “Every year, millions of Indians find themselves in the midst of record-breaking cold even as the mainstream media and others obsessively speak of catastrophic global warming.” Mr. Jayaraj then cites actual science (compared to the politicized data of the left), showing that “there has been a 1.6-fold increase in cold wave days in India in the last decade.” He then goes on to expose the lie of global warming alarmism by citing reams of unbiased scientific data proving that “extreme cold and moderate cold kill a lot more people than moderate or extreme heat, with 88% of temperature-related mortalities caused by cold rather than hot weather.”

In the “Battle beneath the battle: Democrats’ appalling vote against life on House floor” (again published by The Washington Times, Jan. 14), Robert Knight highlights that 210 congressional Democrats voted this month against the “Born Alive” bill. This is a piece of legislation that does nothing more than mandate medical care for babies who survive botched abortions. “That’s all but one House Democrat,” Mr. Knight says. “Let that sink in.” Indeed. All but one congressman of the party of President Biden just voted in favor of infanticide. Yes, as Mr. Knight says, just let that one “sink in.”

Questions Abound After It's Revealed Biden Special Counsel Hasn't Even Started Yet

As RedState reported, Joe Biden’s latest scandal took another major turn on Saturday after a DOJ-led search of his Delaware home revealed even more illegally possessed classified documents. But while things have undoubtedly escalated, it’s now being reported that Robert Hur, the special counsel appointed to investigate the president, hasn’t even taken over the investigation yet.

I’ve said since the beginning that I believe the special counsel exists simply as a rubber stamp for Biden’s exoneration. It gives Garland the appearance of not being involved while the outcome is still all but decided. Now, hearing that Hur is sitting on the sidelines as the case escalates, I’m more convinced of that than ever.

The DOJ isn’t serious about handling Biden’s criminality with impartiality and seriousness. They just want this to go away, and the president being dumb enough to keep classified information from his senatorial career has thrown a wrench into the plan.
